  1. Well, if you give her a biscuit she might suck it....
  2. Gash, If you think its high thats why ONO. But you don't see this come up for sale often and Ronnie already has two offers. And as you know its a fantastic tune, 1200 in manship book. As for Paterson, honestly we havent had such a discussion, the question should really be when you going to get yer finger out and put one of your decent regular soul night on up here again? The Allnighter, don't make me laugh, you know I wont get to DJ ... Gee us phone mate when yer onshore. Des

  4. Ritchie Conn AKA Gasher has got one...
  5. While it may have been a dirty word to some, to me the late 80's mod scene was far from a dirty word. I was a bit too young to play a meaningful part in the 79 mod renewal but by the late eighties I was regularly attending mod nights. By this time, with the conversion of many to scooterboy, the mod scene was concentrated into a devoted group of mods. As such the late eighties mod scene, while it was back underground, was a vibrant fantastic place to be. And though there was a fairly broad range of music plaid including latin soul, modern jazz , ska, beat and R&B by far the most predominant sound at the nights I attended was rare sixties and northern soul. The lifestyle for many at this time, along with clothes, also involved an obsessive hunt for these soul records and one-upmanship with getting a tune your mates didn't have. For me by the turn of the 90's, with less soul being played and my growing disillusion with the over elitist attitude of some, I found myself drifted more and more into the northern scene. Anyway, at these northern nights, for example Shotts, I found that there were loads of other fellow late eighties mods, many of whom are still active in the rare/northern soul scene today. Whilst I would not personally like to say that the influx of eighties mods saved the northern scene I would say that they made an influence. Ok I'm not implying that the following records were not played first in the northern or other scene but anyway here are some tunes I remember hearing played in the late eights mod scene: The panic is on - Roy Hamilton Friday night - Steve Mancha I'm waiting - Bill Bush Soft walkin - Freddie Houston Move with the Groove - Bull & the Matadors The champ - Mowhawks Pass the hatchet - Eddie Bo Lonesome shack - Ernie Washington One more chance - Shirley Lawson Mr heartache - Freddie Scott
  6. Thanks John, makes a lot of sense. Anyone got a styrene original for sale? If so PM me D
  7. Mine corresponds with everything John says above apart from the Rolf Harris bit. I'm not disputing what John says but is it possible the bootlegger pressed some using a different vinyl? As my copy is very ridged and the sound quality is good. I've tried Rolfing it hard but my vinyl copy is the same as yours Stardom. My granny's more flexible than this record. Sorry for this next anorak bit but someone might find this interesting. Comparing it to my vinyl Sheppards Stubborn Heart demo, I would say my Bobby Garrett boot is more ridged, less flexible and thicker. On a set of fairly accurate digital scales the Sheppards weighs 32.4 grams while my Bobby Garrett boot weighs 36.6 grams. I also have a very good hifi setup which is not very tolerant to poor quality pressings and this one sounds pretty good ie clear and not muffled with reasonable dynamic range. Luckily this record only cost me a few pounds. Des
  8. Cheers Stardom, It was just the earlier post who said that all vinyl's were boots that made me start to wonder. So i'll keep it with the originals for now.
  9. Here are a few photos of the run out grooves from my blue ridged vinyl copy. Hopefully this will work. So is this a boot or not? Can anyone help - please - as I'm totally confused.
  10. Finish price was £949
  11. My copy is exactly the same as you describe. Good quality vinyl, nice well defined label, the same shade of blue as other mirwoods. Manship boot guide only mentions white DJ copy vinyl boot. It would be good to know if this is original or not?

I'm confused? Is Sound of Soul 101 not a different Dickie Wonder 45 - No stronger Love? So out of the two Sound of Soul Nobody Knows 45's, 5002 and 217671, which was the first release? 5002 in 1966? Anyone know?

IMHO the one with girl backing to me is the better version, when I hear the other without girl backing it sounds sort of incomplete.
  14. Oh lord what are you doing to me - Big Maybelle
  15. Six weeks or so ago I asked the Ebay seller of the Topics "man" on Token 45's how many he had using the "ask seller a question" thingy. Anyway he said that he only had a handful. How big his hands are I don't know. However, I also did an Ebay search on completed items and if I remember correct it only came up with about 7 copies including the 3 he was listing at the time. After those sold he stopped. Then there were the two offered here on SS around the same time. So perhaps if John changes the wording to "Maybe one of less than a handful of known copies in the UK" then he's probably covered. If more turn up is yet to be seen, or perhaps that's it......?
  16. Gash - Johns site has been changed and not to go into too much technical detail, Internet Explorer 6 XP browsers have an error decoding the javascript. The solution is to install a decent browser like Firefox from the link below https://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ then you should see the auction end prices again.
  17. Got this on original acetate. Anyone know this, has it been released? What do you think of it? Any info or comments appreciated.
  18. My local postman also signs for my records but goes one step further and also takes them home with him. He then brings them back up to my house later in the evening. He's fantastic.
  19. I have once or twice thought about putting an instrumentals only CD together for the car, but I have always resisted the temptation fearing that after listening to about ten instrumentals I may fall into a hypnotic state, crash and probably kill myself and perhaps someone else. I like the odd instrumentals but too much is not good for you...or the general public.
  20. Very fascinating post. I had been led to believe that the GoldSpot vers was the earlier release of the two and probably the rarer. Both versions were known and had been played out but as more DJ's had the GAR version it dominated. However, what the fek would I know about it as I was still in shorts at the time. Personally, I prefer the GoldSpot version with the organ intro.
  21. I've always loved this record especially the tree growing bit... I could be wrong but I always thought the song was about losing someone and hanging around longing for them to come back, however you start to get bored but are too spaced to get off your arse and go looking for them. I sometimes get the same feelings when I'm waiting for the wife to come out of a shop. Lucky they didn't have mobile phones back then or we may never have had this song. Anyway, what's the rarest format? I have a green issue any idea of current value? Another naff record that springs to mind that I love is "Woman, Love Thief"

Would that be a six inch red hot rusty nail? Ouch that sounds sore, got me crossing me legs just thinking oh it. No dig intended at you or your morals Gasher, it was meant to be sarcastic. I was mainly referring to the far out of touch up here bit . Anyway, it's always fun to mention the Worms as I know you love to reply..... Big Up The Westburn Posse! See you tomorrow lover, Des

No disrespect Gash, but I played out Evil a couple of times at the Carlton in Aberdeen! If you'd only been there......
  24. Yep - I'm regularly there, came home one night pissed as a fart, decided to knock out a few ender tunes. Cracked one record by standing on it and melted a copy of Just Say Goodbye after leaving it uncovered on top of the radiator all night.
  25. There are 4 known releases of Boy, each one a different take. The first release is a ballad then the second and best IMO is the 106 version which has a Light Blue label with "let it be me" on the flip. Then the two later releases are both backed by "somebody to love". One is Pink which is similar to 106 however with a harmonica the other has a White label which is funkier. I can't remember what "let it be me" is like, will play it later and let you know if it's any good or not.
