Manus Just remebered about that night at the big hotel in Tynemouth ( can't remember it's name I think the Grand ????) never mind there was a bus on from Gateshead remember getting picked up at Heworth Metro with Toma, Tonge, Cranny and Jeffrey Joe to name a few and there was a huge fight with some knackers from a pub across the road, for some reason it had something to do with Ted White and Duncan ( I may be wrong) but Big Ray was in the thick of it, were you there???? Paul

Hi in relation to Susan I one of those responsible for it being released, only 500 were pressed on 12" and it was not an Australian release. It came about re a mate of mine 'Ash Dear' who is form Whitley Bay in the North East, he worked with Susan at a local collage, and one break time they were talking about music and she mentioned she cut some tracks in the 90's that were never released,( Look me over being one of them) Ash thought she was talking shite untill she came in one day with a battered C90 Tape and he was blwon away. Ash called me I, we had a meeting with Susan and I tracked down the producer Ian Morrow of Nightcrawler Fame and he invited me to his house come studio in Scotland where the orginal demo was cut, the original version is by a man who's name escape me but he was in Nightcrawlers with Ian. Anyway Ian had about 25 tracks by Susan some brill other well not for me. we strck a deal to release it which took forever due to contractual reasons and when I was running The Fed in Gateshead Susan sang it live she was brill, after that things went a little sour between me Ash and Susan and we fell out ( not Ash and I) Ian had warned us about her Diva tendecies and that was the reason she did not make the first time around, and when I first met him he was very reluctant to get involved with her again But I went on and on untill he relented and it was released. I don't regret getting involved as it was great experience and I learned loads, but I did not count on being backstabbed by a person I wanted to succeed so much as her voice is amazing, I still belive in her voice but not Susan, I am not sure what she is doing now but i wish her luck Still have 250 copies in me loft £6 pus p&p Cheers Paul Conroy Tyneside Soul Promotions
  13. been reading this thread with some interest and it seems there will always be a debate about Oldies , Modern, Rare, underplayed, House etc, etc, etc, and it will never go away, what ever gendre' of soul/black music you are into nee probs, myself I love the lot, from early sixties to Soulful Garage, and enjoy what ever night I go to, I think Steve mentioned on page one why can't we have a night where all forms are played in one room??, or something like that, well actually there is( there may be others but now aware of them ) and it's Bumping and Stomping in Edinburgh and it's been going for some years now Shaz and Jolly have it on 4 times a year 2 of which are Oldies night but the other 2 have a seperate Northern roon but in the main hall you can hear The Chandlers to Deepswing, Mario Biondi to Stevie Wonder,Driza Bone to Harold Melvin and the floor is never empty and the atmosphere is brill, if you want a party night getting pissed having a geat laugh well you can't go wrong here. Re House Music being played at Northern Do's by Northern DJ's,it was not that long ago a well known DJ was at my house and i played some Soulful House, this DJ stated not for him, not a problem at all, it's all about opinions, well last year at Whitby same DJ was on and played Soulful House, including a couple of tracks I played to him, saying they were brilliant tunes, I was a bit peeved at first but then realised that peoples taste's change, and good on him, he had the floor full, but one thing that does come out of this why do people only change when a big name DJ plays something different, why can't they accept it when a lesser know(not leser knowleagable) DJ plays something and then kick up a fuss calling the DJ shite etc, I wish people would listen to the music and accept it for what it is,and not accepting it when the music is only played by certain DJ's . Well rant over some Soulful House recomendations for you and you can listen to them on traxsource Mighty Mighty Love Deepswing Papa was a rolling stone Temptations Jihad Mohammad remix He is the joy Donna Allen Change the world Solaris Rise Joillet Have a listen let me know what you think Paul Conroy Tyneside Soul Promotions

  20. Tony was a gent indeed, he will be sadly missed rest in peace mate Paul Conroy
  21. I agree with Tone, they are not cheap, I came across a web site by accident approx a year ago, some agency thingy!!, anyway the prices were very high, so I passed the info onto a good friend of mine who promotes live acts of all types of music to see if he could get a deal, and this guy has had Solomon Burke on in Newcastle just recently and he knows his stuff, he got back to me saying it was not worth the risk what they were asking. He told me he tried all ways to get a deal but could not. It's a great shame as they would go down a storm over here and on the continent, lets hope someday someone will take a risk and they perfrom live in the UK Paul Conroy
  22. Not too sure how to take this, you say no offense to Northerners, it certainly has come across to me that way, maybe it's the way you have used smilies to highlight certain points may be if you had stressed more that it was one individual you had a problem with, it may not come across as annoying as it is 'it just seems down south we are more open minded with our music ' as above how can you justify the comment you made Like I said it may just be me, but it has annoyed me enough reply Paul Conroy
  23. Sean Been away on me hols, and reading through the replies you received there is none from the North East ( apart from Kirsty and Picerbridge) so hear we go Up here we are suffering the same as the rest of the country, the attendances are dropping.I don't think it has anything to do with Holiday periods, myself personally there are too many events on in a small area which attracts a small number of people anyaway, and to make it worse they clash. I've just recently stopped writing for Nsoul re the North East Scene, but when I did I attended every event possible up here and I noticed about a year ago attendances were dropping, Why??, well this is a personal view, the same tunes are being played, at the same time , bythe same DJ's!!! in the same order, it was becoming boring. I could go to an event on a Friday night and hear the same tunes on a Saturday night. there needed to a variation and sadly it is not happening, and to add what about clashing, here's a one for you last year me and me mate Micky Bishop who always accompanies me went to 5 do's in one night up here starting off in Newcastle, South Shields,Sunderland,Newton Aycliffe then Darlington, before returining to the Toon, there was ahandful in each event and to be honest there was not that much difference in the sounds that were played, these types of situations cannot help either Me and Micky promoted The Fed, which sadly is no more, we were getting over 450 in and we used to ask what people wanted to hear, we even put out questioners at one event, the answer was 'we want something different' we did it and were criticised for not playing enough Oldies, because of this we suffered attendance wise at the next Fed. so we reverted back to Oldies with current floorfilles, got criticised again too many Oldies. We already had 2 rooms going the second being modern Room, so we decided to go for 3 rooms, extra costs meant we had to raise the price from a fiver to £7, from 4pm til 2.3am we had 29 DJ's on in all 3 rooms catering hopefully for everyone and his dog, it was starting to work but with all 3 rooms working great particually the Modern and Rare rooms, and if the new company which came in not trippled the costs of room hire our attendneces may have risen but I'm sure it would of stayed the same 450 plus, but we will never know over the pst 5 years one club the Cumby in Newton Aycliffe has always been progressive in it's music policy, but even there the attendances suffered the lads have had to move to a smaller venue, others are trying like The Rolling Mills in Darlington and Bob Armstrongs new venture in Easington to play something different, not too sure what the attendances are like as I've not been able to go due to work and personal reasons, but the people I know who have attended say they have had healthy numbers I have wondered if it would be best for venues to go Bi-monthly, you could still attend an event every month, support one event one month, another the next, so on and so on, this may raise attendances and stop the clashing Sorry for going on a bit All the best Paul Conroy
