  1. Cheers for info, it is Reperata and the Delrons and it is on a pail/pastel blue Mala lable. So its a boot is it? The Johnny Jones is on a white Chirrup lable, is the original one yellow? ASs i have seen that up for sale for a fair bit more than the white one i have found. The ultimate Truth is quite a decent sound, but not amazing. I will get a sound file up, but the USB turntable i have isnt the best.
  2. I have been looking through a box of a few hundred singles. Its a right mix, some good new wave and punk tracks etc and some disco type stuff. But mainly terrible early 60's pop and other aweful sounds... But, i have found a few 45's that have mad my ears twig up. I think some of these tracks arent too bad, some are rather good. But a quick youtube/google search hasnt brought up much. Can any one tell me if any these ever got plays on the Northern scene? Or just generally what people think of the tracks if they have heard of them? I doubt any are worth much, just more interested in what people think... 1. The Ultimate Truth - Take A Little Time - J City Records - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultimate-Truth-45-Hooked-Love-Little-Time-Soul-EX-/380424374378?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item58930f486a Quite a funky track, but with a "northern" sounding verse/harmonies. 2. Tiny Watkins - Way Across Town - Excello Not a bad little tune.. 3. Johnny Jones & The Soul Explosion - Sore Loser/I Can't Help Myself - Chirrup - Seems a fairly decent double sider. 4. The Delrons - It's Waiting there For You - Mala - Quite a decent floaty blue eyed soul effort. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5EhYKBWO0A 5. The Reflections - Comin At You - Golden World - Its a bit too poppy for me, but youtube says its northern soul... Any info would be interesting, Cheers, Jordan
  3. I would have had said The Burning Bush... The first time i heard it, i thought what the hell is this crap? How did this get plays? Yes it does sounds like The Monkeys on some acid filled trip, but it really is an infectious 100mph tune. I actually quite like it the more i listen to it...
  4. Yeah mate, youve got yourself a stalker...
  5. The Paul Anka track was what spurred that thought. Just wanted to confirm what i thought, the main reason i wasnt 100% is the art of covering up records isnt really carried out nowadays. So it all happened well before my time. I would be interested in hearing about covering up a record to increase its credibility.
  6. Ok, i have been reading quite a few threads on here and many of them mention "covering up" records. Just wanting to know ive got the right idea by what is meant by this. If a DJ back in the day had a new find, would he possibly cover it up with a different title and artist so that other "rival" djs would be sent on a wild goose chase when trying to find such tracks? Or if the track was by an artist that wasnt really seen as that credible, would it get covered up by using an artist who had another big dancefloor track to help break it? Jordan
  7. I get your point, i dont know if they will be revered as much as bands like The Beatles. But, i definitely think that there is so many albums that will stand the test of time from the 90's and will still have a following 40 years down the line. Just like every other decade has and will create great music.
  8. Generally 60's & 70's music sounds like just that, music made in the 60's and 70's. However, i am a strong believer in good music being timeless. The music will always still sound like it was released in the time it was, but if its good the song will always have an appeal long after it was made. And to be fair, there was so much dross released in the time by these small studios by un-knowns, that really does not stand the test of time. But its those gems that do stand the test of time that makes the soul scene worth following. Also, i dont know what music you have been listening to from the 90's? There was so much great music released in that decade, in a wide array of genres. I definitly think bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, OCS, Cast, Stone Roses, Suede etc will definitely have a following in 40+ years time. And on the other end of the spectrum, i reckon there will still be a following for acts like the Spice Girls etc, just like there still is for 60's/70's pop...
  9. theres a new re-issue on discogs at the moment.
  10. Does any one have an original copy which palys very well. Not too bothered for lables to be honest, will consider anything.
  11. I went down as an extra (not for this video), I would say 80% of the extras were genuine as well. There were a few non-soullies and obviously the main character are just actors. But like i say most are very much into the scene. It was quite a hard environment to dance in, nothing like a soul night i have ever been too. Basically, you would get played the first 10 seconds of a tune to get you going. The music would then stop but you would be expected to carry on dancing while they shot a speaking part.
  12. Im not worried my records are suddly going to wear out... Its just my Dad is being quite reluctant to let me listen to some of his records, to be fair alot of them are not that valuable compared to some you see on here and ebay. I quite enjoy listyening to them as there is a lot thats new to my ears or not played much out any more as they have lost favour. But his excuse is that they will only last so many plays. So i can now combat his arguement! I have two decent stanton turntables with good stanton needles in.
  13. i was expecting the jokes... But how many hours of playing time does a typical record last? I assume there must have been some form of QC tests or spec to meet at the time?
  14. Ok, at bit of a beginers question. But i am curious, how many plays does a piece off vinyl actually last for? lets assume its a near mint record, well looked after and using a good quality needle. How many plays would you get before you can start hearing a deteriation in the sound quality? jordan
  15. Im sure i read on a thread a little while back someone owns the original tapes on here?
  16. Funny you should mention the carlton in morecambe. It held host to this years pre seson scooter rally, the main is a very decent size. But the northern room was off to ome of the smaller side rooms. It was decent on the friday night when there were no more than 10-12 dancers on the floor at once, it was full of atmosphere. But you could not move in the saturday, wss thst cramped.
  17. I forget the name, but on this years LCGB coast to coast the venue was a hotel in st bees was quite big. But the dance floor was minute, about 10 people and it was full. But some how there must hsve been about 30-40 people on it at the end of the night...
  18. Thinking about it, if a single doesn't come up in the right price range. I will probably end up buying the album. Its just such an ifectious song, haha.
  19. Would the UK album, be "legit" to play out? haha...
  20. Thanks for the suggestions so far, but some of the originals out there are more than i personally can pay. Hence the, not bother about label condition.
  21. haha, maybe my attitude is more to do with the rural area i live in and soul nights are pretty thin on the ground to say the least. So I'm just grateful to hear soul music out and about.
  22. I have seen that, thanks. May be the best option if i don't turn up a "reasonably priced" version on Epic.
  23. Might have something to do with it featuring heavily in the up coming film?
  24. I dont like to get bogged down in these debates. But, in my opinion. If you pay a lot of money (In ticket value and travel costs) to go to a "top" weekender or night. I for one would be very disappointed if the Djs were not playing original vinyl. However, if i were to go to a local night, get in for free or pay my £2 (which more often than not is going to a charity) if a reissue or whatever is played it really doesnt bother me. I'm just there to have a good time not for the format.
