  1. It was a brilliant night and a fantastic idea Paul and I am convinced there will be more nights using the same concept Fred n Suzanne
  2. You can always go The Wigan Pier to make you feel at home
  3. Then why dont those same keyboard warriors name these quality venues rather trying to gain cheap points by attempting to ridicule someone with irrelevant and pointless comments
  4. Dance floor is one of the things that makes it for me and that rules out the 100 club.. My fav is Nunnie. It's bang on from the start to the finish, some nighters fade around 3-4 but this never happens at Nunnie. Mark always picks the finest DJs..Awesome sound system..There used to be a bit of an issue with piss pots but Kim sorted that..I'm glad they banned talc.. Radders is good..Love Stoke but there where more tourists playing about on the dance no doubt due to The Culture Show IMHO..Keele is the business and so was Coalville before it was moved The above is what I posted on FB and I would like to clarify to Jocko and others I am not a great fan of KR and certainly not one of his converts, whilst Goldsource rip off folks on the admittance fees their Nighters are good. Simon attends more Nighters in a month than a lot of the Keyboard Warriors attend in a year
  5. Gethro has a FB group called "Where are they now lost friends from the northern soul scene" which contains some good pics
  6. I am confused about the quote on dancing..I was always under the impression that we could dance however we chose to dance and wanted to express your personal feelings Would someone please direct me to some video evidence of how I should be dancing as my particular style of dancing hasn't changed much since 1970 I suspect this thread on SS has put more folks of visiting a Soul event than anything they saw or heard on The Culture Show Fred
  7. What you consider to be facts others could argue are opinions...Just get on with it then and enjoy it..! What you consider to be normall clothes others may consider comical and at the end of the day what relevance have the clothes a person decides to wear?? Is this new music you hear every day actually new music or is it just new to your ears Fred!
  8. I wondered how long it would be before the Soul Snobs and False Prophets responded with "I am the better Soul Person" or any other of their regular stupid sermons!
  9. I can't think where your going to if your feel the oldest at 47?
  10. I suppose it's like it always has been and always will be..Some do and some don't regardless of what part of the scene appeals to them Personally I havn't touched any gear since the 70s and still attend Nighters on a regular basis, doing 3 in a weekend last Month!
  11. Like Brent I watched it and was entertained by it..I was against the filming and was at all 3 Nighters I know Pete and Sue and whilst we are not the greatest of friends there is no doubting the passion and love they share for the music, unlike lots of the keyboard warriors on Soul Source they are out every weekend at Soul Nights, dayers and nighters Whilst the comments on SS are uncalled for they where expected, what the hell have the clothes some of us choose to wear got to do with things and yet SS is obsessed with this fact I have heard comments like the young souls need to form their own identity. I know most of them and class them as my friends and they do have their own identity, anyone in doubt should visit The Black Bee in Manchester Some folks say they all dance the same, not true the variation in dance styles and dress codes is greater that it has ever been and anyone getting out n about would be aware of this People have questioned how long can the old souls dance for, visit The Twisted Wheel in Manchester where you will see some origianal Soul folks who have been on the scene since the 60s and are still doing their thing on the dance floor The programme was not perfect but was a lot better than expected, my biggest dissapointment was that it appaered to say you needed to be on drugs and working class white..I was Black when I went to the first Casino Nighter in 74 and still am I am 58 and from Wigan although it was not the first Nighter I went to and like most of you I am sick of hearing about The 40th Anniversaries, but not as sick as the relentless unwarranted attacks on people for the way they dress and the music they choose to dance to that appear constantly on SS Fred!
  12. Bit of a deception going on when it states Live and then the artist Mimes I was a never a fan of artists getting on stage at a Soul Venue and Saturday reinforced that view
  13. I recall that place being an amusement arcade..After I moved to Culcheth around 76 I bought a slate bed pool table from there, it was hell of a job stripping it to get it upstairs and rebuilding it..Our house got raided by The DS but luckily they didn't remove the slate bed top from the pool table We used to spend a lot of time at The Carlton and knocked about with some of the Warrington folks..Bobby & Mally Houghton..Chilly..Tank come to mind!
  14. Ian was the Bowling Alley still in Leigh in the 70s..I was from Aspull and didn't venture to Leigh until the early 70s but never remember the Bowling Alley..I used to work on Silcocks fair and when we held the fair on the base we used to get King Edward cigars for next to nothing!
  15. But when The Casino nighters started how many Nighters where there to compare it with!! People tend to forget about the nighters when hardly anyone was there
  16. Yeah your right about Burtonwood it was huge and was classed as America..I can recall going on the the base in the mid 70s and they had a Bowling Alley which was unheard of in the area..You could buy huge American cars and step side pick ups very cheap around Warrington
  17. Richard claims that there is no evidence to support The No1 disco claim They tried to get a minibus to take The Young Souls who where filmed at WYS Highfield the week before to Nuneaton and they opened the venue early for filming
  18. I should imagine it contains footage from Stoke Kings Hall and Wigan Young Souls, Highfield venues as well because the TV crew where at both venues I am also aware that Richard Searling asked a couple of Wigan based record collectors to appear in the programme but I'm not sure if they decided to appear on the show
  19. I doubt if it is a full screening All queries keep saying the film is not ready for release and it is still being edited
  20. Ive started to come to the conclusion that some promoters and DJs have a draught response when posting feedback which they slightly alter to big up each others events due to the fact that they DJ at each others event for free and are trying to tap up DJ spots I have have been at events and been told by friends where there has been serious trouble which has not been reported I also cannot understand why the promoters and some DJs turn a blind eye to drunks fooling around and spilling drinks on the dance floor, but with venues advertising late bars what else can be expected
  21. Your right no one knows what he's on about and I guess a few would love to know what he's on
  22. Spot on Simon regarding Sean. Ive witnessed him on a regular basis taking notes on whats been played Ive also been at The Box whilst Sean has been DJing and he his given more freedom than most oldies venues and has always played brilliant sets
  23. Your right Terry. Fred Perry could of donated a few pieces to the charity auction, they had a launch party and donated one of the dresses with the logos to the DJ A mutual friend of ours sent an email to Fred Perry regarding them making a donation and they didn't even respond Talking about dressing up, some of the older Wheelers are always dressed up in original suits etc from the sixties/seventys and look amazing. I also hear people talking about being to old to dance, they want to check out the older Wheelers and watch them dance
  24. Not quite correct Tezza The Original Wheel opened in Brazennose St in 1963, 18 Months later it moved to Whitworth St which closed in 1971 and was started again in the same premises by Pete Roberts, when those premises where to be demolished Pete transferred to NQ live and after a fire there they moved to the present premises at Alterego All the admission fees, plus money from raffles etc along with a £500 donation from the club owners was paid to the memorial fund for Stephen Hunt the firefighter who was killed fighting the fire Although Fred Perry cashed in on the Twisted Wheel name they did not donate one penny to this fund The logo Fred Perry have used on their clothing refers to The Twisted Wheel Scooter Club The TW Club at Alterego is frequented by a large number of older customers who started attending in the mid sixties and the atmosphere is second to none, it was packed for The Allnighter last Friday and will be busy on Sunday with like minded folks from all over the Country Fred
  25. Seans sets are so unpredictable and he loves to play latin style, whilst it is not my favourite gendre Sean always plays uptempo and I love his sets I heard him at Alterego and I was at The Coalville Nighter which was held at The Nottingham Irish Centre I did not attend The Box but it is a venue I love and I have no doubt Sean would provide his playlist The girls you refer to are as I'm sure youre aware Jackie, Joy and Debs from Derby and attend most nighters and are at Soul events all over the country every weekend Like others have said I'm curious about what you've been on Fred
