What Do You Say When Asked What Music You Like?
Me: i listen to northern soul. (confused look) oh its rare soul music that was popular in the north of England Person: Oh so you listen to, like, northern, soul bands from the seventies?? (i.e. bands from the north playing soul ) This has happened on more than one occasion and i can see the person just picturing the happy mondays in suits with saxophones...

Frank Wilson On The Chris Evans Show
to be fair i got silly excited at the local pub. they have that secret dj thing whereby people choose the tunes via an app. the app has its own limited playlists, and if no one selects anything it plays its own playlists. on a number of occasions ive heard exits- got to have money - now that was a surprise!

Book Prices?
its certainly tricky, but if their was say a voting system based on if you agree the price, plus it can instantly be changed with fluctuations in the market... tbf it sounds like alot of effort, but then so is all the talk of manship guides, people using it as a bible etc etc. not that i disagree with any of the arguments, but its a case of if you think you can do better, the opportunity has been there i suppose. plus its another useful bit of information consolidated into this excellent website, and might stop people from quoting book prices, but rather soulsource prices. (although i can see this evolving into the same kinda thing aha)
-
Book Prices?
the manship book prices are a constant source for discussion on here, and i do thoroughly enjoy reading them. and i do agree with pete about using soulsource as a guide, from a buyers perspective, to see whats selling at what price. Yet these discussions always centre around the incorrect nature of the records valuation, and there are many threads about 'whats the current value' etc.. now to my point.. the Refosoul section of this forum. doesnt it have a little subheading entitled 'Value'? would this not be a great, immediately update-able and honest way of clearly assessing value for buying or selling purposes? I have noticed, and i may generally be wrong, that this part of Refosoul is a little neglected, and would, if used and updated frequently, create a readily available and reliable soulsource price guide?

Turntable Spindle Adapters - Aluminium Brand New Top Quality
Arrived damn quickly, a quality product, great finish. More importantly however, is the fact that you can actually put any US 45 on it with no added force! highly recommended, esp. at half the price of ones on ebay...

Mixed Bag Brothers Of Soul Etc
brothers of soul track just sublime. i have a similar copy i paid a little more for, no regrets cause its such an awesome record!

New Vinyl - Are We Bothered
haha brilliant. theres also a 45 ive noticed... will have to check out the tracks on it! seriously though, that jools holland performance is incredible. Nice to hear a real authentic soul sound being made nowadays; something which sounds like a late sixties record yet definitely has its place now. brilliant.

New Vinyl - Are We Bothered
On bbc iplayer now (jools holland .. the shorter version) also on the show, absolutely awesome performance from Charles Bradley, was completely blown away by the sound of that record. Seriously, check it out. If his LP is on vinyl id be tempted...

Manship's Auction Bargains
not a massive bargain but.. i was after a copy of king floyd times have changed, most prices on here were 40 to 60, some demos though... out of interest sake i looked on manships site and there was a m- copy for 25 quid! was very surprised so snapped it up. although i did notice afterwards that hes selling the pulsar company sleeve.. wouldve been nice to have had that included but then again when you have as many sales and records as he has it doesnt surprise me at all that they werent put together.

Searching For Rare Soul Collectors?
theres also a few younger people on here, myself included, who have been collecting the stuff for (in comparison) a relatively short amount of time, just incase such a perspective would prove itself useful!

Another Coasters Crazy Baby Query
sorry to do this again (#floggingadeadhorse) but just to clarify something ive seen no info on... my original copy has 65 9290 printed on the label, yet ive seen other copies (which i presume are boots but this may not always be true) which have this printed and MO following... Also, on these copies the font is different and the yellow brighter.. Is it simply a east coast west coast deal or is this a seriously overlooked way of telling the boots from originals (which i doubt aha)?? Just as a reference for anyone searching for info (please correct if wrong): Originals are vinyl or styrene, and the deadwax must read 65c rather than 65l AND feature the AT stamp cheers all, and sorry to go over it yet again...

This is the coolest sound ever

Outta Sight Label
generally speaking all cd comps ive listened to, even the generic 'northern soul best of' full of classics all have top notch quality audio and i cant imagine theyve just recorded a bit of vinyl.. for example the cleethorpes cd sounds great and i can very likely imagine all master tapes would have been used and mastered for the format, yet what i cant get my head around is the cheaper end comps; then again i suppose they just nick the music from another cd...

Record Hiss/distortion Help
Played it out tonight in a noisy pub and on a shite system and sounded fine.. Will have a go on a few other players but not sure what this is going to tell me.. Will enquire as to a record cleaner. Im in london if anyone knows one? Btw rat records in camberwell is where i had it done, pound for one side 45. Just in case anyone wants to go although i did try and tell him it wasnt a cheap record he proceeded to handle it rather.. Casually. Then he went online to tell me it was only worth 40 quid and he could get one in asap. Wheres that emoticon with the brick wall??! Cheers for your advice boba and every one else will get back with news as and when!

Outta Sight Label
just had a look on their website... their cd collection looks awesome https://www.outtasight.co.uk/products_discography.php
-
Outta Sight Label
and as opposed to boots, especially the older ones, i think, and its only a guess, they go to the master tapes as all their stuff has good sound quality.. may even be mastered a little...
-
Outta Sight Label
my local record shop gave up on trying to sell original soul 45s (not that he really had any northern) and now just has a big box of these outta sights and a few kent bits... I alway imagined they were legit as so many shops have them in in quantity, not that that means much i suppose.. The strangest thing he told me though is that they fly out. It seems all the northern fans round here just want the rare classics at a tenner each. He told me that one guy came in and nearly bought the lot. think he spent at least 50 to a 100 quid... which begs the question, if money isnt apparently an object, why not seek out those cheapish gems that are original??
