  1. A good dancefloor is TOP priority for us, another reason we're hoping to get our dream venue as its perfect in that regard.
  2. Also, for those of you preliminarily interested in attending, first off: THANKS! We're looking into an earlier date of mid-April, but this isn't confirmed yet. It all boils down to wether or not we get our dream venue, but if we do, it's going to be one hell of a place to dance away the weekend in! Again, you'll just have to see as we get closer
  3. Thanks all for your replies and support. We've had our first meeting with our "planning committee" and we're all extremely excited about this thing becoming a reality. While Copenhagen, or Denmark as a whole for that matter, isn't known internationally so much for its soul scene, we do have a great lot of DJs here from various clubs playing sounds all over the spectrum. Denmark's oldest, Backstreet Northern Soul Club, has been going 22 years now. Club Mau Mau, handling more the mod R&B/beat territory, is another long runner. The events I do as well as GhettoSoul have a root in Northern but also embrace the more "progressive" sounds of crossover and modern just as much. Soul Systemet plays more in the Belgian popcorn/R&B/jump blues territory and there's others doing straight boogie and soulful house nights in town. It really does run the gamut! We'd love to see our small-ish but clearly healthy scene blossom a bit more on the international radar as well as on our home turf, so I think doing a truly representative rare soul weekender with some great guests is going to be the best thing. Please keep your eyes and ears peeled, more info to come shortly!
  4. These couple of tunes on their way Versatile Gents - You've Blown My Mind (Linco) https://youtu.be/0JMl_yu-8F8 Andre Williams - You've Got It And I Want It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJSc1kyJ4sA
  5. Post from Denmark is £3 within Europe, £5 elsewhere. Please PM to reserve or if you have any questions Leonard Howard - I Got A Love / There's a Girl (Heres) EX++ £30 Very rare, under the radar midtempo barebones stroller from Leonard Howard on his private pressed Heres label. There are two versions of this record, one with both these tunes on the A side and a two-part funker on the flip, but this version bares a different mix with sax and only the ballad flip. Seems to be this mix is the rarer of the two, though I can't confirm since there's very little info on it. "Not For Sale" scribbled in pencil on A side, a noticeable edge lift warp that does not affect play in any way. Soundclip of the proper mix with horns up on Manship's. Sylvia Thomas - At Last / So Will I (Bamboo color label) - VG £18 (plays well above grade) Nice belting mid-tempo northern winner. Rarer color palms label varient. Label is a bit grubby and grade is low, hence the price. But she still plays strong, "great for DJ'ing" as they say. The Toys - You Got It Baby / You've Got To Give Her Love (Musicor WLP) VG+ £25 A seemingly forgotten 1967 oldie double sider that doesn't appear to be on anyone's current sales lists. The "you got it" side is a nice midtempo girl group number while the flip is a pounding uptempo funk-edged stormer! Labels ain't too bad and the vinyl still has lots of shine. Witches & The Warlock - Behind Locked Doors / Same (Sew City WLP) EX £18 Excellent girl group dancer on a cool white label promo. The Jades - I'm Where Its At / Mother's Only Daughter (Ree) VG/G £10 Boot alert! However, a rarer boot that sometimes fetches well above this asking price. "I'm Where Its At" has two scratches in the middle of the disc that tick for about 15 seconds, albeit not too badly on my deck. B-side that you won't want to play anyhow is knackered. Grab a deal? Harold Burrage - You Made Me So Happy / Take Me Now (M-Pac) EX+ £8 Nice little R&B edged moaner on a fantastic label. Small pen mark on "Take Me Now" side, otherwise clean as a whistle! Jimmy Delphs - Almost / Don't Sign The Papers (Karen) - EX- dh £15 Rarer dark blue label pressing on vinyl, drill hole and one small mark NAP Major Lance - You're Everything I Need / inst. (Osiris) EX- £10 ON HOLD Calvin Arnold - Satisfy My Woman / You'll Do it (IX Chains) EX £10 Dillinger - Cokane In My Brain (Black Swan) EX £12 Edwin Starr - Girls Are Getting Prettier / Its My Turn Now (Ric Tic) - EX- £10 Eddie & Ernie - The Cat / I'm Goin' For Myself (Eastern) - VG+ - £5
  6. Hey all, hoping some of you can indulge me with some good anecdotes (with as little ribbing as possible please ) on what has made weekenders of the past the most memorable ones for you. I am in the midst of organizing Copenhagen's first ever Rare Soul Weekender. I don't want to give away too much nor try to build up something before its fully fleshed out... but I think between great venues, international bookings and local jocks, it has the potential to be a great event. We would love to have guests attending from as near and far as we can, so I'd love to hear what has made weekenders you've attended memorable, or even better, whats kept you coming back to them year after year? Look forward to hearing a bit from you
  7. Two great recent purchases: I.A.P. & Co. - Check Yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl-mM5tchz8 Summits - I'll Never Say No https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0AlHxyOPAw
  8. It should be easy enough to find sheet music of some sort for "wade in the water", it being an old hymnal. Play it at a faster tempo and there you have it, your own rendition of Marlena Shaw.
  9. Wonderful double sider in need of more plays! Got mine sorted through here, hope it works out for you too.
  10. Wish you could make it over here to Denmark, that's more or less my MO!
  11. Being an outsider (outside the UK, that is), I find this all kind of amusing for the simple fact that I'd KILL to be able to just pick and choose where and which venues I attended, and for that matter which DJs I went to said venues to hear. Simply don't have it here. And that's precisely why I've started my own things, for lack of being able to hear the tunes I want out without traveling serious distance (why spend that loot when you can just buy more tunes? ). Can't some of what you're discussing here be for that reason as well? "My town doesn't have a venue that plays x & y sounds, so why not start it up myself?" It can't all be because John Townie wants to flex whatever muscle he has or thinks he has for adoration, or thinks he can do it better. Rare, over or underplayed, charity or personal gain, seems that this conversation is overlooking that aspect, that some folks just want a place nearby where they can hear what they want to hear. If they have a crowd or support, or even if not, they're still getting it going for the fact that where they're located doesn't have it on offer in any way shape or form. surely that can't be wrong?
  12. Damn, thats a steal!
  13. Leonard Howard - I Got A Love / There's a Girl (Heres) EX++ £30 Very rare, under the radar midtempo bluesy stroller from Leonard Howard on his private pressed Heres label. Seems to be this mix is the rarer of the two, though I can't confirm since there's very little info on it. Eddie Floyd - A Deed To Your Heart / I'll Be Home (Lu-Pine) WLP EX £25 Nice Detroit early Northern/R&B dancer on a cool white label promo. Seems to be a tough find, and doesn't turn up on demo too often. Seen on other lists at £50-100+ in lesser condition. "I'll Be Home" side has a small X, otherwise very clean! Labels ain't bad and the vinyl still has lots of shine. Witches & The Warlock - Behind Locked Doors / Same (Sew City WLP) EX £18 Excellent girl group dancer on a cool white label promo. Barbara Randolph - I Got A Feeling / You've Got Me Hurtin' All Over (Soul) VG+ £15 Visually EX but plays a bit hissy with some groove wear throughout, and has one of those annoying metal 45 adapters lodged in the center that I dare not try to remove, so as not to ruin such a classy tune. Bargain? The Jades - I'm Where Its At / Mother's Only Daughter (Ree) VG/G £10 Boot alert! However, a rarer boot that sometimes fetches well above this asking price. 14. MC5 followed by Anne Murray? What a strange mix!
  15. Do It & Crying Clown both get regular spins from me on nearly every night I play. Even done a beatmatched mix with Do It and September Jones a couple of times for a continuous groove-a-thon! Love the power in this man's voice.
  16. There goes many of the above posters' dreams of a soul dancin' Russian mail order bride!
  17. Johnny Gilliam - Peace On Earth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLutorJnV1s
  18. Extremely kind gesture Brad, hopefully the sale will cover a good chunk or all of the costs.
  19. thanks Kev, didn't see that
  20. Hey Mark, Just wanted to check how much international shipping should be, since I didn't see any shipping cost listed at checkout. Thanks for the update on this!
  21. Would love to come over and check this night out / play some tunes at some point. Hope you keep it going strong for long enough for me to be able to afford the ticket!

  23. Another great midtempo dancer with huge production that makes its way into every night I play! Celestrals - Keep Your Hands Off My Baby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4OUOqxdahQ
  24. In my early days of being fascinated with Northern, I loved the sound of this record and while shopping found a copy of the boot on Ree. Overpaid for it (imho) but I just had to have that sound at that time. I still like its rawness but its certainly never a record I listen to or play out any longer. And now its on my sales list for a fraction of what I bought it for and can't seem to get rid of the thing. Such is the world of collecting and trading records, I guess.
