  1. R.I.P Mr Edwards. Thank you for the memories.
  2. New to me, cheers
  3. My five from the marvellous Carlton Club last night, very busy once again all the Dj's doing a great job, Big Shed playing a brilliant set celebrating his 60th birthday, 1 Eddie Floyd Bring It on Home To Me (brought back memories of the old red Dansette and Mum banging on the bedroom door "turn that down" 2 Peggy Gaines When the Boy You Love 3 Herman Hitson Yes You Did 4 Ben E King Teeny Weeny Little Bit 5 Not so much for the record because I know some people prefer the other version but just for the fact Andy for once played Millie Jackson House For Sale rather than his usual Mark Williams, little bug bear of mine I like an alternative version as much as the next man but in this case I just don't get it, where's the passion in his version?
  4. Cheers Simon, couple of things you mention could be relevant to my problem, cheers I'll try moving my router as both you and Simon suggest that could be part of the problem , it never occurred to me that it is not in an ideal position where it is currently sat. I try to keep things in check but will do a de frag and clean up ,thanks for taking the trouble to reply chaps much appreciated
  5. Twoshoes posted a topic in Soul Media
Mods please move if in wrong forum ,I put it here as it is relevant to the Podcasts hoping those who listen might have an answer, does anyone else find buffering a problem when listening to podcasts, generally happens for me around the hour mark if listening to a long cast and doesn't restart. When I re open the link on a different page it goes to the previous stop point but continues buffering. Am I doing something wrong ,is it my internet connection running slow, really getting to me now ggggrrrrr!
  6. This is a bit different from most of the tunes posted but I've always thought it kinda soulful, looking at him he has a voice you wouldn't excpect
  7. First off let me say I'm not on the "upfront scene", to me rightly or wrongly whatever I hear played out I just take as the Dj's view of Northern Soul, whether I agree or not is by the by but if the person putting the record on the deck considers it to be I'll respect his opinion, after all he has the courage in some cases to stretch what probably most would consider the boundaries. Seeing Geeselad quote Burnley as one of the main venues we went there sometime ago. All I can say Ed without quoting any actual tunes is I used to think I was pretty well versed in all aspects of the music played on the scene , I knew less than a dozen of the tunes I heard that night, really enjoyed it , it was a refreshing change to hear something different. I am a prodigious downloader from youtube so I'm pretty sure if I was to go to a similar venue now I would know more of what was played. If you look on Mixcloud for Dean Andersons TNT soul show there is one featuring Colin Law who I believe either runs or helps run the True Soul in Edinburgh mentioned above, that should give you a good idea of what is played rather than a few tunes posted on this thread. I'm sure as always tunes will filter down into the mainstream, pretty sure some will have done already, Geeselad or Ahoy will probably put me right but I think Line and Track started off the "upfront scene" . I have always fully respected anyone's opinion as to what Northern soul is to them be it top 500 ,RnB ,Modern whatever, it's all Soul to me , hope this helps
  8. I wrote a poem to one of Mal's posts which he now has, not a happy piece it has to be said. It is something I have done before on an American poetry board where they had a picture of the week , the variety of takes on a particular photo was quite surprising much the same I would guess if you asked on here for people to take a photo that represented Happiness for instance. I'll leave it to Mal to decide if he wants to place my poem alongside his photo on here. I'd certainly give it a go , probably a good idea to use the first come first served idea you suggest, after all it is a photography thread. I think the posters of the photos would find it interesting seeing what emotions their photos stirred.
  9. The youtube file of this is currently on the Record Club 2018, 50 Years of Rare Soul thread
  10. Great tune, the Truth were one of my favourite groups when I was going through the funk stage of my record collecting, I've heard this played out a couple of times ,always been one of my fav tunes, great to see it here.
  11. Really like the bottom photo, been looking at it for ages, it has a kind of ethereal quality to it if that makes sense, I was once on a poetry board where the weekly theme revolved around writing a poem about a photograph posted by someone, I feel inspiration coming on.

  14. I have had a look back over several pages, not all I have to say , I'm not sure why but the further back I went the up votes disappeared , as you say Russ the people with most votes did tend to be the same select few but then again they were regular posters which is fair enough. On the pages I looked at there were plenty of up votes in the 9 to 13 range, top vote I saw was a 17 but again I did not look at all the pages so going purely of the votes during the year a clear winner might not be found. My suggestion would be if each month someone was to download the picture or pictures with the most votes and then in December either declare the winner or post each months picture with the most votes and everyone could vote for their favourite for the year. Hope that makes sense, any more ideas?
  15. As above thanks to all the contributors to the thread throughout the year, most enjoyable and in some cases educational, keep up the good work, I might even post a few myself when I learn how to better use the camera I've had for two years, thanks again for the many Wow! and smiley moments. Maybe next year people could make a note of their favourites month on month and at the end of the year we could have a vote on picture of the year, any thoughts on that anyone?
  16. I think there was a thread about this some time ago and a few members were trying to collect all the cities, it's in the back of my mind the total was nearer seventeen but I could well be wrong on that. Edit- I am wrong.
  17. That took me back to a time and place, I'd forgotten all about that track, thanks for the memories!
  18. Merry Christmas to everyone, thanks to Mike and the team for all the hard work not forgetting all the regular contributors to long running threads who brighten many a dull day, the Show us Your Great photos guys and gals, the Record Club boys and the Podcasters and Playlister's all much appreciated, Have a great day my all your wishes large and small come true.
  19. Appreciated here too, often a treasure trove of tunes new to me.
  20. Full story here from the man himself... https://youtu.be/fNP7B2sj5kQ
  21. Video here of the Chants with Eddie Amoo https://www.peoples-stories.com/story.php?i=VQGN4QEPMC
  22. I put a search in on the site but nothing came up so sorry if it has been mentioned before , 1/2 hour programme about the making of some of Aretha's 80's videos, more her disco type stuff but interesting none the less, I found one of the blokes who talks about Aretha quite irritating but still worth a watch. It's on Sky Arts Catch Up and probably elsewhere It's a series called Videodrome.
  23. With the current prices people are paying and some sellers being economical with the truth can we expect to see it on EBay after a meeting with a tube of superglue stated as "with slight crack but plays fine"
  24. Just done a check back on events and you are spot on, in my defence there were a number of Scottish flags displayed and the music was pretty loud, I'll have to tell my mate as we have both recalled the night saying what a brilliant set the Scottish lad played. Cheers
  25. Getting engaged to the wonderful Lou in March, Seeing John Cooper Clarke in Manchester The return of Northern Soul to Ramsbottom courtesy of Diamond Des Jones Having my Grandson of fourteen months living at my house(with his parents of course) while I have been off sick and seeing him develop week on week. While off sick (I still am, going on eight months) finding how supportive workmates, old friends ,people off the scene have been, it's been a very humbling experience. Scottish DJ guesting at Farnworth Cricket Club, fabulous set, sorry can't remember your name, dj at Pershore early doors another fabulous set likewise sorry no name but I think he was one of the resident Dj's.
