I only remember what I did Chalky!!!x I also remember what was around me. I am ignorant of the past but was guided well. I won;t name them because they are some of your heroes I believe too...and don;t deserve your reference i'd say!x The Hopes n Dreams.....I was everywhere Chalky.....it weren't being spun at Nighters where I frequented.....early 90's. I was given a copy to spin by a friend who was 'active' to know at the time.....since the 70's. It did as I described and know...or heard...nowt else!x It may have had local exposure....but National???/ I never danced to it until I spun it at me soul night a year into the scene and after say 30 nighters under me belt for the year??? As for Walter.....it was Shifty's I believe...or Fingers.....or u know wot....I can't remember and weren't bothered!!!!x As I was 'representing' the then 'new wave' on the National scene....then Shifty....I think even Lenny and certainly Kev Fev in Norwich.....many folk who had awesome collections insisted on giving me tunes too play!!!! Emporer of My Baby's Heart Kev Fev made me spin it at the 100 Club.....never heard it poo'd meself......!!!!x They lent me tunes. Shifty didn't get National until I persuaded Mick/Little Scotty to put him on....and he was away and rightly so. He lent me Your My Mellow too....cos I wanted to spin the B side My Kind of Woman....and did....he wouldn't sell me it....!! Never heard that on the National stage over 9 years.....unless I spun it!!!x That's all I remember. Ain't givin it sum or owt and not meaning to Chalky....just being as honest as I recall. There is this factor too. Records in East Anglia I found massive........went flat up tNorf!!! Same t'other way round!!! Some tunes got huge in an area because he local DJ had them!! I remember going to Lennys Wellingboro'. Him...Ciro...Dave Vanner.......they were spinning tunes that I didn't hear at Nighters for another year.......if it was being spun.....i;'d have known!!!!! Folks first thing they did as they saw me was chew me lugholes off telling me wot happened here there and everywhere!!!!!! I called it intelligence gathering and quite often picked their brains up off the floor as they parted which they thanked me for....hehe!!!x So....from my memory.....the tunes I mention weren't 'prolific' NATIONALLY on the nighter scene......that I heard. Some may have had their day in the 80's/90s....and I ain;t being disrespectful to them either. I just 'had it away' with these. If they'd have been 'finished'......the dance floor would have told......I was entertaining the hard core......they din't have any ole sh*t....and I never gave it mate.....X @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X

We pray at the same alter Mick.....wonderful....and it is why we got on back then......I reckon!!x Nobody can tell you I was about money. I came into the scene to escape all that bo**ox. I found 'fellowship....which money can't buy. Mick's venues as did Ady's....Pete Hollanders Winsford.....Nantwich....Dave's Cottons in Stockport.....all venues that were there for 'the craic'. As was St Ives we relaunched....I insisted. Having said that.....whilst I was happy DJing anywhere for nowt....I din;t expect what I got at some 'professionally' run venues back then....and what some DJ's 'asked for' as a wage!!!!!x Personally....I never got more than £60. That was my peak. £30/40 was typical and that was for a nighter at which I regularly piled 30-50 through the door wherever I was djing....!! I never ever asked for anything. But that's what came my way. I learnt early on as a promoter/DJ and after getting to know every major Promoter and National DJ in the Country during the 90's....that to some....money was what it was all about....and taking the pi**!!!x I asked some 'known' DJ's who saw me as a dipstick I suppose.......they came at me with £60....flagon of cider and they would get there 15 mins before their spot with a bunch of mates stood giving it husky joe lifeguard to me Soulies!!!! It happened twice.....never a 3rd. I turned to new names and to those who were 'active' not reminiscent. We had the same attitude and money din;t count. The nights became BRILLIANT. 6 years of 'new' DJ's came thru my Soul Nights with no National names appearing or required once!!x No....sorry....Ady came down I think to the City Stop but we wos friends and I dunno if I even paid him.....ooops!!!hehe!!x But u know wot I mean! We carried that ethos into the nighters we promoted. ALL were S/N DJ's/Promoters and on the National stage for the first time. No names required....we sold out and everybody had it away!x I was a DJ...they were DJ's.....and we did it for the love of the groove and groovers. I paid all the DJ's £50 which was more than I got gor a nighter. I appreciated them. Mick's Blackburn epitomised it for us all. It was THEEE Venue in the 90's for the HARD CORE. I should know...we wos everywhere and I got reports from where I weren't to know. If u are promoting Nationally....I had to be aware of the National picture!!!x The 90's was an era of THE DJ...and I thank my colleagues and the likes of Mick who supported and promoted that 'excitement'. We din;t do too bad. Listen to Ian Levine....Chris King on the Tog doc....they all came back because of that excitement WE made. The Kings Hall is the legacy of it all....for 'the people'....and cashed in on the tsunami that was the new generation of DJ's. U just don;t see many of them on the bill......so some things have lapsed....but hey.....whoever puts em on and does the effort.....decides who gets on....end of!x Been there done that!!!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X ...errr....wealthiest DJ malarky??? I know and have seen many of them. I don't know of 1 that I could recommend for a spot at Blackburn. They'd sh*t themselves. I get paid £1000 for 2 hours at a gig in Amsterdam.. I get 500 for doing backing music for an hour at the V over the years. Gimme £40 and Blackburn/100 Club anyday...............DJ init.....X I was with Norman somewhere on the stage at the back. He is coming up.......big build up.....about 50,000 out there.....he grabs the decks.....he's on one and starts shouting....no mic. Engineers/technicians running around trying to fix it....Norm going into 1 as his buzzz begins to backfire........crowd becoming restless.......I step forward......get some headphones laying on the table.....take the mic out and plug them in.....speak into the headset....................crowd went laaaary......Norm looks at me 'startled....begins to grin'....Big hug....and he's off....and he gets the cred to this day for that one....sigh!!x I learnt that from Little Scotty who ran the door for Mick at Blackburn.....THANX MATE....worth every penny I never made!!!!!x Yawn....X Modern 'DJ's'.......killing it....they are....if they ever had it....they shake when i'm about down at Brixton.....so they should.....charlatans...X

I was very fortunate to have some 'hard core' around me who knew the craic from the 70's to the early 90's. I was told by these folk that Hopes N Dreams had been spun mainly the instrumental back in the day but no real National exposure. Same with Joy Lovejoy...In Orbit.....IT WAS MASSVE for me Nationwide and it was a year or so before others started spinning it at the then National venues. Standard today! Another 'newbie' Seven Day Fool Etta James......GUARANTEEED floor packer yet many round the Country had never heard it before the 90's!! Man O Man Walter & The admirations I remember having to kick off with it at Bretby as folk had waited all night for me to spin it......I weren't on till 7am last hour.........heeeeeavy night for all I recall...hehe!!!x But this was perhaps me fav revival tune I played that hadn't been 'aired' for some years...if at all as it deserved...and took it Nationwide!x SUPER tune to start a Monday morning....or a spot around the Nation........proper!!!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X

Good point Mellorful..X After doing the Toogetherness film 'casually' and with a trainee....I purposefully didn't use lights or put the camera in faces on the dance floor and stuff. Wanted folk to be 'normal'. The trade off is poor light quality for the dancing filmed from afar and stuff...but it's knowing the craic init. However....when Kev invited me back to do the Wigan 30th...I took 2 cameramen 1 being riiiiiight keen and 'independent'. Switched his light on mid dance floor to do a twirl and nearly got his head kicked in....hehe!!!x He knew best....sigh!!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X

....from me great British icons series for 2015....going up on me FB....pics from footage never been seen in public...!!x I've met many of our Luvly Ladies from the telly....and Jane McDonald is 'proper'...X Jane was a guest at a dance studios annual bash. For several years I fronted and produced the official vids/DVDs for the studio from early 2000. What is not widely known....and her lawyers have been on to me I kid u not....is that Caroline Flack came thru this very dance studio....and was awesome....I recall. I have a backstage interview with her as a kid that never made the film at the time........funny.....but too 'basic' wiv her language.....and perhaps not ideal for her new 'image'....hehe!x They are saying I can't show it. Yawn. For my brief period throughout the 90's.....I met all the shakers and groovers be they Promotors...DJ's...Soulies and speed freaks. After that intense and exciting involvement.....I came away with 3 folk who I would have a day out with anytime and who match the criteria set out and come to mind instantly!x No order....Derek Allen (RIP)....Ady Croasdell....and Mick Lyons. 'Heroes' for differing reasons. But all impacted the scene in a way that I believe made a better one for all....at its roots during the 90's.........thanx to their efforts above and beyond...X LUV SOOTY X

So I made all me plans to work round that!! I popped into Coventry....Wallasey.....Southport on the way.......and the wind/rain....snow.....was horrific as I headed for Carlisle! Din't turn me mind onto it until i;d finished 'business'!! Arrived at 7.40pm.......to this.......sideways snow at around 60mph!! .....I left after being told by Carlisle folk huddled in the Supporters Club that the game was Saturday.........DOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!x Mad thing is.......hundreds had read my comment where I said often....see you at Carlisle Friday....! Nobody anywhere sed it's Saturday Soot....?! Nice 1 Mike and thanx for the pointer!x It has gone down well mate......over 20 have come forward as featuring in the film and never seeing it....which is brilliant!x The feedback is what it deserves.....a sincere simple film with no 'objective'.......as it is!x The DJ's give a super account of themselves and the scene.....and 'the people'....in my 10 year intense association....and knowing 'Soulies' for 40 years.....then again....they represent 'the people' as is. It wasn't important to me as such....it sat for 10 years.....along with over 30 other 'quality' productions of various interests.,.......all 'done and finished' with....for me! I am glad I have done what I have......I knew it was a cash generator too.....if I wanted it like that.....but never have. In essence......I have stayed true to my principals applied to the scene throughout my association with it.......never been 'business'....always pleasure. There ain;t 1 DJ...promoter or Mogul who can tell u different. Proud of that.....and yes....I believe that attitude has been captured in the film! A unique 'product' in every sense!x I couldn't take it serious on the night......I only went to 'chill' as I was in the middle of sorting out a high ranking peedo ring back 'ome! The bu**ers din;t leave hassling me out of bringing em to account as they smashed me window to get me phone whilst I was in the venue chatting to DJ's! Amazing eh...? Me.....just getting away from it all.............where else could I have gone....and felt safe??? THANK YOU ALL....even tho' u never knew....X You were the only 'family' I had. Hundreds of 'em!!!x I placed the link in several....it went ballistic.....but it wos laborious! The FB and 'unknown' figures come from FB links i placed! On Sunday.....amazingly....a new account opened up to attract/co-ordinate ALL FB NS/Scooter groups..........and over 200 have piled in so far.........a 'come to Daddy' moment......!!!!! So today I am sitting in that group and going down the list and giving em the film.......job done!!!!!x To date since Xmas day......5743 full watches have occurred with a total of 8,000+ clicked play....for a quick browse!
