Through never-before-heard phone conversations, dazzling animation and an incredible soundtrack, the full scope of her extraordinary life and career is finally revealed in this remarkable portrait. Long Synopsis A star is reborn. With an outsize stage presence that eclipsed R&B greats like Etta James and Little Richard, Black trans soul singer Jackie Shane was the real deal. After mysteriously vanishing from public view for almost 40 years, this little-known icon is given her ultimate due in Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee’s remarkable documentary portrait Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, executive produced by Elliot Page. In an era when voices like hers were silenced and marginalized, Jackie blazed an incandescent trail from her native Nashville to the top of the charts in 1960s Toronto, where she ruled the nightclub scene. With few recordings of her legendary performances, this film brings Jackie to life in her own words through never-before-heard phone conversations, dazzling rotoscope animation and a newly released song, part of an incredible soundtrack that seals Jackie’s place as one of the greatest soul performers of the 20th century. The full scope of her extraordinary life and career is an epic journey, marked by family secrets, loss and love. From standing down the mob to telling off Ed Sullivan, Jackie lived as her most authentic self through talent, courage and an unbreakable commitment to truth. But on the eve of her return to the stage, fate had other plans. In Any Other Way, Jackie finally gets her second act. Or in her own words: “Oh, Honey! When it comes to Jackie, look out!” For official event site and tickets please click here. https://kinofilm.org.uk/sunday-soul-alldayer-plus-film-the-jackie-shane-story-26-10-25/ Links with more info. More Info on the film The film examines the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which took place on six Sundays between June 29 and August 24 at Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park) in Harlem, using professional footage of the festival that was filmed as it happened, stock news footage, and modern-day interviews with attendees, musicians, and other commentators to provide historical background and social context. Despite its large attendance and performers such as Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Max Roach, Nina Simone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mavis Staples, Blinky Williams, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Chambers Brothers, the festival is much less well known in the 21st century than is Woodstock (which took place on the same weekend as one of the days of the Harlem Cultural Festival). The filmmakers investigate this, among other topics. This venue in the heart of Hulme, Chichester Road (M15 5EU) . FILM SYNOPSIS “The 9 Lives of Barbara Dane”. Barbara Dane: Folk, blues and jazz singer, international social justice activist and recording star, wife, mother of three, feminist, record producer, unwavering maverick and general troublemaker on the road at 90. THE 9 LIVES OF BARBARA DANE is a sonic boom, an explosion of music and passion, a celebration of one woman’s groundbreaking artistry and moral leadership. Her life intersected with dozens of cultural luminaries of the 20th century – Pete Seeger mentored her, Bob Dylan looked up to her, Louis Armstrong wanted to take her to Europe with him, Bonnie Raitt was inspired by her, Jane Fonda learned from her. Standing strong with her singular confidence, Dane emanated the people-powered connectivity of folk, the defiance of blues and the elemental cool of jazz while propelling major historic events with boldness and subversion that cut through commercial artifice and earned her a 5” FBI file. THE 9 LIVES OF BARBARA DANE is an underground history of a singer-agitator whose unbending principles guide her through notoriety, obscurity, and finally, music legend. First visit to the cinema in a while, yesterday when to see DRIFT which I enjoyed. Very moving story that slowly builds up to it what happenned in this woman's life, slowly teasing us a long the way. Two solid female performances. Indie British film for anyone interested. DRIFT TRAILER Next two films that I still haven't seen which I will do next week, the Bob Marley One World film and Zone of Interest.
  13. I don't know where he gets it from that this version is listed for £800 in DS? There is one mint copy listed (this small 45 version) for £150. He sounds nuts to me! I see he has ended the listing now and re-listed it at £100 with 70s reissue in the description.. The Ebay police triumph again!
  14. Oh yes I remember reading that post. I was surprised to even see them sell at £55 to be honest especially the one drawn on. Is it the same guy who bought it of you who is selling it now?
  15. Lets hope he tells the two people who have bid on it so far directly so they have a chance to withdraw their bids if they want.
