  1. Wanted early copies of Blues and Soul mags .. Numbers 2 - 3 - 12 ... Good price's paid for all .. Also wanted Northern Noise number 2 ( Red issue with " Have a Stomping Christmas " on the front ) Good money paid for all related memorabilia ... and have swaps of lots of stuff if wanted including other Northern Noise and original patches .
  2. Love the vid ... Tfk ... but those tickets upstairs where way expensive ..and nothing like the atmosphere downstairs .... you can never beat being downstairs standing at any venue ... unless you have a problem standing I was there Friday ... and it was a truly special night ... really hope they dont leave it that long before they come back ... Lets get them to Prestatyn next year ... !!!!!!!!!!!
  3. After watching Jules Holland , I was a bit apprehensive of what kind of a performance they would give us , as I didn't think it was that great . I didn't think Jules's piano playing helped ... and it didn't sound as big a sound as it should .. Needn't and shouldn't have worried at all . They where MASSIVE .... one of my gigs of the year ... and i get to a few .. Eddie stated a little throaty I thought , but at 72 ... you can't blame him ..and wow ..has he still got it ... and at one point he wanted to slow it down .. and sing a couple of ballads but the crowd didn't want that , so he introduced the band instead to give them a rest , although he did have to ask one guy in the band what his name was ... Flip I forget half way up the stairs , what I'm going up for ..!! Match their performance with some fantastic old tunes both before and after from the DJ's ......a very knowledgeable and typically soul friendly crowd ( except for one drunk guy and his younger girlfriend who he wanted to push to the front )..... made the whole evening a memorable one and I'm so glad i stumped up the ÂŁ50 + for the ticket .. Ticket prices are going up and up ... but most of the gigs at Ronnie Scott's are this price so ... All I can say is come back soon guys , as id be first in line for another ticket ...and as one of my favourite tunes on the night goes ....... " Encore " Cheryl Lynn !!! *****MASSIVE *****
  4. OJays .... massive .... great gig .... fantastic songs ... great live ..... great backing band ...just a massive gig and great tunes before and after !!
  5. Same here ... but you can see they still have it .... didnt think Jules on the piano helped that much ...took away a little from the sound ... but im sure tonight will be a show and a half ...fingers crossed .. " I love music .... any kind of music ... I love music .. just as long as its groovin " !!!!
  6. Doesn't look bad to me ... I loved "Soulboy" as I thought the characters where well written and very believable and it was very endearing ... "Northern Soul " as a title while being simple and to the point may leave little to the imagination but it's a difficult one to have a headline for . "3 before 8" would have been my choice but then we could all make different choices and loose others that don't know anything about the scene . Nostalgia is big business .. and being able to be taken back in time to a place we all have fond memories for will always be a winner for those that enjoyed those times .. From what I've seen it kind of captures the elements of that time and the dancing sequences look fantastic ..the music sounds tremendous and I'm hoping it's going to be a great success for all who have put their hard work, time and effort in for so many years . Prequel next called " Northern Soul 2 " ( The Highland Room ) on the life story of Ian L . Who is making slow progress and I'm sure we all wish him a full recovery .
  7. Look forward to seeing him in a couple of weeks Should be a great gig .. I can not let this thread go without giving a shout to my mate Francis who plays bass in a band .... Not in the same league as most of these guys .. but Incognito think he's ok enough to give him the gig Nice one Francis
  8. Is there a link to where and when then film will be show in London .. anyone .. or is it best to keep looking on Facebook : ?

  10. Little confused .. Maybe its me being dim ... ( has been know and its the age thing creeping in ) The vinyl set ... on Amazon ..its ÂŁ82.99 .. on the MyPlaydirect its ÂŁ59.99 ... and then there's two sellers on eBay that are selling them at ÂŁ129 and ÂŁ139 ... and have sold copies already .. ) Same set .. Wish id have got one of the 200 limited editions now
  11. Thanks ..mate .... good to get a bit of realism into my world :-)
  12. Wow .. I know I've been away from the scene for a while ... but really ..is this what stuff is really going for now ... flip ..or is this just on Manships site ?? Frankie Crocker for ÂŁ460 ... and The Servicemen at ÂŁ214 with nearly two days to go ... I know the Servicemen's copy is the right way round .... so what price is the opposite version now ?? I need to sort through my stuff as I'm sure I have both of those ...maybe a couple of times over
  13. Didn't you just love where it was posted from ... bet they had some fun in that town !! TITUSVILLE Anyone got any better names of places .. now there's a thread
  14. Class mate .... wish i had been to that one ...best one for me at Eric's was John Martyn ... doing his Solid Air album ..still have my Erics membership card somewhere He could play a bass ..and any guitar Nice one mate
  15. Weather Report and Jaco ...hell yea !!! He would be a very close second in my opinion ... with a very distinctive sound ... and a handsome chap as well ... some guys just have it all ..its not fair !! and not many knew that this was played on a bass .... Marcus Millers no slouch either
  16. I saw Stanley , when he came to the 02 Indigo with Return to Forever ..about 3 / 4 years ago .... he still has it down to a tee... and love his slaps I know what you mean about which track ... just that School Days was one i grew up with ... bit heavy while you where growing up ..but great musicianship
  17. Very true .... lots of people have sampled the start of that tune .... good spot ..they just turned the revs up a touch
  18. Yea ..great start rift ..
  19. Yea ..just played that again here as its one i have not played for a while myself ... I know its not a great sounding bass but as the backbone to a tune " Hung up on your Love " always does it for me ..just the bass start of the track sends tingles down my spine !!
  20. Howard is the younger brother ... and only 20 ... I have know the Lawrence boys for a good few years and Howard has always played bass ... and loved his Funk ... Glasto this year was a bit disappointing for me in general .. but Disclosure was one of the high points ..as was Mogwai on the Park Stage
  21. If we are talking Bass ... for me there is only one man .. Stanley Clarke ... and School Days has to be the track !!! With Jaco Pastorius and Dave Entwistle a close second and third ..

Ive seen Craig a few times myself .. last one at Glasto this year ... and he span some good tunes .... but even I can't defend a fellow Scouser that has no real skills as a DJ what so ever and is very hard to listen to on the radio , trying to string together a scripted monologue in a very disjointed way. It is hard to listen to him sometimes, especially when he interviews someone But one thing in his defence is that he does have a history with music and started his career in the 80's as a performance poet, gaining local respect and being asked to perform live with local bands. However his knowledge of soul and funk is questionable and his skills as a DJ are minimal ... think Im better and have a better voice ... Sorry Craig
