Was talking about Strads cafe, the electrical shop was up the road (was still open & ran by Adrian up until last christmas) The speakers at Strads are still being used & normally reside in my dining room but at the moment they've been borrowed by guess who? Rob Wigley! Got a funny feeling i know you & you're not letting on, think i know who you are though
  2. Don't underestimate the guys in Japan, take a look & listen here https://soul45.org/cgi-bin/radioshow.cgi Agree with you on Pat Brady in the early 80s. Forgot to mention Keb but couldn't make my mind up over where to put him!
  3. Been thinking of posting this up for a while & as it's livened up a bit today here goes. What are your best DJ's from the past, the present & your tips for the future? Here are mine to get the ball rolling. 1, The past, tough one this but i've got to go for the late Nev Wherry, got some great memories of Nev from the KGB niters in the 70s. 2, The present, on the northern scene it has to be Butch, on the modern scene i could name several {Fish, Mark Randle, Roger Williams etc) 3, The future, tough one this but on the northern scene keep an eye on James Trouble & the lads in Manchester but keep looking over your shoulder at some of the lads in Japan, those guys really know there stuff. On the modern scene there's only one winner, 19 year old Jamie taylor from Wallsall's soul underground. Saw him last night at the Bass Museum & he really had the place rocking, surely got a great future. A special mention must also go to the guys who fall into all categories, Richard Searling, Soul Sam, Colin Curtis to name but a few. Away you go........

Well if ya throwing in Sam im going in with him & Roger Williams is coming in with us both (weather he wants to or not). Sure we'd be fighting like cats & dogs some of the time but when we all got out we'd have some great stories to tell & im sure we could all learn a bit off each other. Might take Pete S with us too (with his ska collection). Now that would be fun Merry Christmas Funky Lady...

Be great to see you there "Realsoulfan" Should be plenty of Clifton Hall stuff played as all the DJ's on the night were Clifton Hall regulars & Adrian from Strads who ran Clifton with Crofty & Alan helps us out with the sound equipment. Hope you can make it, be sure to come & say hello (always good to put face's to names).

Think you'll find he got the beers in earlier this year at the Friendship Steve. I should know cos i lent him the cash to pay for them!

It's a car park now, still get a lump in my throat when i pass it. Clifton was the best venue ever bar none , not only for it's music policy (where would todays modern scene be without venue's like Clifton with it's open music policy) but it moved the scene forwards in leaps & bounds & healed all the old Wigan/Mecca arguments. Simply the best venue ever. Think i might do a bit of a Clifton Hall tribute at our next "Modernism" night. (just round the corner from Clifton)
  9. You can download it legally here https://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=sh...itle_id&cv=2279
  10. Saw Alan last year at John Benson's birthday bash, not seen or heard of Pete Shirley for years though.
  11. Can't remember John Green, was just a bit early for me (no snide comments Steve or Mark!) but used to listen to Searling on Soul Source religously every Saturday evening. Anybody remember the Clifton Hall special he did when Alan Senior was his guest?

Good innit Brett, listened to it yesterday. Loved the bit where he met Eddie Piller for the 1st time.
  13. Best line ever from a film...
  14. There's loads of em here https://www.gemm.com/c/search-for-artist-is...title-is-S.html
  15. I can't for the life of meunderstand why anybody would spend a tenner on one of these rather dubious looking re-presses when they could buy Lou Pride's new album called "Keep On Believing" for a couple of quid more. IMVHO it's one of the strongest albums of the year & features Lou's new version of I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un. At least if you buy the album you know the cash ends up in Lou's pocket. You know it make's sense... BTW Congratulation's on the new arrival Pete, looks a bonnie lad
  16. Hi Rob' Im taking a King Tutt 12" with me. But wait i can hear you saying, "he's only got a 7" copy" Ya right Rob im taking yours BTW i dont think many folks on here are gonna heaven, do you
  17. Good luck with the show Brett, will be listening. Go easy on the lager's though
  18. Hey up Mark Had some great stuff out of Spin City over the years, recently got a copy of Willie Johnson - "What im going to do" in there, just gotta search & you always find stuff (should i be telling you all this?). Alan Millington was never the outright owner though, he just liked folks to think he was. Always owned by Andy & Pauline. Spent many happy hours in there (& many pounds too!) Gotta say though i think its far better at the new shop though, just politely refuse if Andy offers you a cuppa though! Remember all those James Coit's turning up at the KGB. As for the record collector at Broomhill, had some nice stuff outa there over the years. They still sell vinyl in the shop next door, really cheap as well. Got a Williams & Watson album outa there & the guy behind the counter said he had some more stuff on the same label, mostly early jazz stuff but found a Major Harris & a Billy butler album for a quid each! Happy days indeed
  19. Great thread this. Really like the 12" version of "Summertime" by High Frequency.
  20. Dont think it's ot vinyl but dont let that put you off. Tower Of Power a great album too, the stand out tracks IMO are "Move you lose" & "got to have your lovin" (was shelved in the early 80s though, not the 90s). Wants list 2 is in the post. Always try to avoid the expansion & togetherness albums though, nowt wrong with the music, it's the sleeve designs that put me off Great 1st post Phil, welcome to the site.
  21. Its right up your street Brett. It aint been off my decks for a while now. Fish at FER has got it in stock for 12 quid (& no im not on commission!), click on the link & it's no 582 on the cd album list. https://www.firstexperiencerecords.com/soul-grooves.html
  22. Cheers Simon Could you point me in the right direction mate.
  23. Got my 1st copy off Nev at Sheffield's KGB many years ago. Had another copy since then & neither of them jump, both hissed a bit though.
  24. Sorry about the other post, pressed enter & i dont know what happened. C'mon moderators, get it cancelled please..
