  1. So here's the deal. You've just bought a rather large dining table that seats 10. Simple really, you have to invite 9 guests that are connected to the soul scene for a meal. They can be artists, dj's or friends, dead or alive. Who do you invite? Here's my 9 in no particular order. Richard Searling. Lamont Dozier. Roger Williams (like to think he shares my sense of humour). Soul Sam (but not sat next to Roger ) Aretha Franklin. Harold Melvin (close call between HM & Teddy Pendergrass). Angie Stone (to keep us all in order ) Mark Randle (the voice of reason ) My mate Errol Green (he'd never speak to me again if i didn't ask him). No Marvin Gaye , well what the hell do you think we are listening to for background music. Almost forgot, your butler is Shane H as he knows how to put everything in the right place Remember this is just a bit of fun so no stupid comments please. Mart...

Tickets going on sale at tonight's Modernism Steve. If your'e coming let me know ASAP so i can inform the bar to get the re-inforced furniture out
  3. Might be mistaken but didn't John Manship have a copy in his drop down auction a few months ago for £29. Seem to remember him saying he hated the record as it was very over-rated & very over-priced. Also saw a copy in Cliff Steele's sales box for £300 recently.
  4. Kenny Bobien Suprised nobody's said Eddie Holman yet.

    Will this do Sean
  6. Only got ourselves to blame. Wasn't it us who sent all the crooks to Australia in the 1st place
  7. You go steady Sean. Don't want you getting locked up before July 29th 2 for 1 ? Let me get this right, I give you 2 English pounds for 1 Irish pound - Sounds good to me
  8. Not really a case of more modern nights Sean. 2 of the venues are modern nights but 1 of the others is an across the board northern night & the other is a classic 60s soul night. Thanks for the regards for our next night but it's this Friday, not Saturday.
  9. Tried ringing the number several times Dan & it's always turned off. Regarding other promoters all the South Yorkshire lads have always tried to avoid clashes in the past & have always got on pretty well with each other so i don't think it's that. Mart...
  10. Breaks my heart to have to post this up but it seems someone out there has got a grudge against several South Yorkshire venues at the moment. There seems to be a lot of rumors flying round at the moment that certain nights have been cancelled. This first came to my attention last month when we recieved loads of calls before our last Modernism night last month asking if we were still on as people had recieved text messages saying we were cancelled. We couldn't understand why they were sent or who sent them. Things really got silly last weekend when the rumors got right out of hand. I recieved a text on Friday saying the Red Lion modern night at Todwick was cancelled due to a double booking. The text was apparently sent by 1 of the promoters (Geoff) & his name appeared on the end of the message. Geoff is a friend of mine so i knew it was not his number so i phoned the venue & they told me it was definitely on. The same rumors have been circulating about Ponds Forge recently as Mark (Vaultofsouler on here) has just been speaking to me about this. On Saturday night i went to the KGB in Sheffield & the promoter Barry told me a similar thing has happened to his night. Sorry about the language but for fucks sake, all profits from this night go to a charity that raises money for kids with cancer. Justify that. The music policies of the 4 venues couldn't be more different as Modernism & the Red Lion are modern nights, Ponds Forge is an across the board northern night & the KGB is a 60s soul & Motown night so there's no reason there. I have spoke to the promoters of all the mentioned venues & this post has gone up with there blessing. All we want to know is why this is happening & who is doing it so if any of you have any info please pm me the details if you don't want to post them on the site. Lastly can i just say that all the nights mentioned are quite definitely on for the forseeable future so if you do recieve any of these messages please phone the promoters or venues up 1st just to re-assure yourself before travelling. Thanks for reading this, Mart...
  11. Got the 12" re-mix & a Jeree copy is a bit out of my price range but thanks for the info
  12. Don't know what went wrong there, was trying to add this as well.
  13. Anybody got any info on "I Wanna Be Loved By You" - Family Of Eve? Just wondering what the difference between these 2 copies is apart from the obvious (1 demo, 1 issue). Always thought the issues were on the blue label the same as the demo thats all. Info on values etc appreciated. Thanks, Mart...
  14. Think his dad's called Dick
  15. Here you go Mike. This link takes you to the Traxsource site. Think that's the only place you're gonna get it before it's release date in July. Pretty good re-mix but most of the Bah Samba stuff can't be faulted. https://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=sh...itle_id&cv=3559
  16. Butch & Soul Sam. If false names are good enough for them they're good enough for me Cunnie aka Martin Dixon but quite often called several other unrepeatable things
  17. Still not turned a copy up yet so just giving this a bump.
  18. Might suprise you here Shane but the majority of Soulful House intro's get right on my tit's They sound great if they're played out by a dj who knows how to play & mix them properly but when you're sat at home & you just want to listen to some music they just don't work. Why on earth don't they squeeze in a radio edit somewhere. I'm sure you know what i mean

Glad you like it Billy Its Fred Williams & the Jewels Band - Tell Her. Not sure if it was ever officially released, won't be cheap if it was but you can get the cd re-issue here. https://www.juno.co.uk/products/140991-02.htm

  21. Brilliant record. Our new resident at Modernism, Julia Nicholl's got a 10" studio acetate of the 1st take they did before the lifetime release. Totally different version, bit mellower & not as disco'y. Think it's a one off. Only place your'e gonna hear it's at our Modernism nights unless anybody knows any different can't believe i just said disco'y Before you all shoot me down i'm getting my coat
  22. Thanks guys. Was bidding on the copy on e bay but wasn't sure of the value so i stopped at about £40 . Simon, send me your addy again by pm & i'll sort you that tape out with Ramsay & co remix on it, lost it the other week when the site went tits up. Anybody got an mp3 of Freddie waters to tide me over until i turn a vinyl copy up. Mart...
  23. Seem to get asked to play Ron Hall every month at Modernism so last month i thought i'd do something a bit different & i played this to finish the night. Surprising how many folks don't realise it samples Teddy Pendergrass. 01___Come_Go_With_Me.mp3
  24. Anybody got a spare copy of this they would like to sell? Thanks for looking, Mart...
