7's yes, 12"/albums definitely no, the cost goes up for each one Pete.
  2. they are all on schema, italian only Jock. i've got a mint copy of the 12" available as well AFTER somebody has bought Dereks of course!
  3. blimey this is an old thread! 'if i lose my woman' MAW mix is the real killer, still sounds great. hard to believe it was 1998. https://www.discogs.com/release/66445 and buy this off Derek /index.php?showtopic=63165 both are umpteen times better than michael proctor, well slightly better anyway IMHO
  4. I agree Pete, die hard NS fans are not laymen though. Soul II soul created a uniquely British soul sound that became massive in the UK and was exported worldwide, which is rare. JB didn't create this alone but he was the figure elevated in the promotion of it and seen as the 'leader', if anyone was going to get any awards for the music it was always going to be him. 'fairplay', 'keep on movin' and 'back to life' were classic UK soul sounds, they were innovators not followers along with other people at that time (nellie hooper, simon law, etc). Whether anyone here personally sees them as that coming from the NS perspective is irrelevant IMHO, they did it. That's why he got the award, and he deserves it IMHO.
  5. I think you'll find that the layman finds northern soul to be dismal pap (if they've even heard it), and soul 2 soul to be the people that had a worldwide hit with 'back to life' and other tracks. JB did an awful lot to promote and increase awareness of UK soul, you can't judge him on a 2 min documentary comment on NS, which if I remember was slated as being a pretty awful documentary all round. In fact the whole series was dubious. This 'debate' is laughable, JB has done more than anyone on this forum to promote soul music around the world, it's just not the small period of soul music most people on here seem attached to. For the record, I like NS and JB! cheers Paul
  6. isn't the first one the cd and the 2nd the lp?
  7. they can be played ok but i have a couple (both marvin - whats going on and let's get it on) and they are quiter pressings but if they are clean copies they sound better... AND they are different mixes to the regular releases - from the original tapes, there are parts of WGO that fade out instead of just cutting into the next track. I'd buy them straight away if they are good titles.
  8. the UK is top left Dave, just to the right of Ireland, which is also in Europe
  9. oh dear i am sorry for recommending an lp you might like, sorry it's not in the preferred format! it's a pretty old reissue if it is one seeing as its pressed on UK Fontana heavyweight vinyl, what is the original UK sleeve like as i've never seen it cheers Sutty
  10. you probably want the 7" but the lp with the ray bryant trio features an amazing version of somewhere over the rainbow, believe it or not!

it was easily available at the time everywhere but as with most boots there was just one press so it's just waiting for one to turn up for a fiver or so i guess. the version on the greatest hits cd is better than the alternate version and is the one that got played at the time, the song had been totally hammered by the time the boot came out.
  12. Sutty replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
definitely a boot 12", there's a whole series of them. There are 2 versions, one was released on a greatest hits collection as an extra track. the next version had whistling on it and was released on the let's get it on extended double cd and is called the alternative version. this alternative version is the one on the bootleg 12" along with other tracks from the lgio cd set. All the 12" versions are unreleased versions/tracks. Funk Inc do a fine version too, the Donald Byrd original is not saying much though. cheers Sutty
  13. here it is, can never get this refosoul thing to work enjoy.
  14. i think the geezer that won the patch better be watching his back, the person he was bidding against also buys patches, and has also bought an army issue parka and a book on terrorism. this patch shit is getting a bit heavy nowadays, wouldn't be surprised if someone gets popped soon over this...
  15. we just listening to the windy city lp with 'win or lose' and 'good guys don't always win' on, will sort out soundclips Sunday! 'win or lose' is just wonderful! cheers Paul
  16. apart from the blatant shill bids on there to get it up to £49, the £49 bidder appears to buy patches like they are going out of fashion (oh, they already have? oh, nobody told him that), and apart from a couple of wigan comps, he's got himself a tweed jacket and a lay-z 4-seater spa. i can picture him now, 'best of the casino' blaring out of his portable cd player, tweed jacked covered in patches, no trousers on, waving his waist around with his legs knee deep in water and foam, doing synchronised handclaps to 'the joker' to impress his dinner party guests... i hope i get invited

i don't understand the question as such. the green and white 45 was played out all the time when it came out, i would never have assumed it wasn't being played? why the soul police enquiry now, it's a bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted. There is no original release, just keep playing a great northern soul record! cheers Sutty
  20. i have the original and it's on Blue Thumb. The repress/bootleg I saw from a few years back was done on polydor labels. what label is yours on? cheers Sutty

no need to take offence, ok then since you asked LOL modern rooms tacked onto a northern room will be empty, generally. the northern scene is a noose around the neck of modern soul. nothing wrong with the northern scene in the uk, or the great 60's music often played, but as long as you try and tell people its a 'progression' from 60's, you're on a loser. its not progression, it's something else entirely. wanna get more people in? forget appealing to the 60's scene who are happy thanks with their own era of music, and try and advertise and pull people who don't care if it's on a rare acetate they bought for £800 or a fridge magnet, like other music apart from soul, such as funk, latin, house, etc. and play what is termed as modern soul be it 70's or new or inbetween. alternatively carry on having the same ludicrous arguments about it all. but above all enjoy yourself or its pointless. and make mine a babycham. IMHO.

this subject matter, what is modern soul and all that, is a prime example of a topic that never existed before people got to chat about it on the internet. prior to that the main topic of conversations were 'this is shit' or 'it's your round'. IMHO.
  24. if i remember the KOT mixes are with the black label as above, the original mixes was a different colour, green or blue? can't recall too well as never picked up the original mixes, cos as derek says, they're not too hot. and they are all boots anyway i think.
