  1. Tracked these and others last night on ebay - concerned that sound bites were not from actual 45's - they seemed too good for VG- / G- and G gradings given and maybe explains high final bids somebody is either going to be pleasantly surprised (happy) or somewhat miffed if 45's turn out to be representative of usual condition of these grades. Buyer beware it can & does end in tears Steve

  10. Recently Royal Mail lost a High Court case (on appeal) that they could not enforce the handling charge to collect money on behalf of Revenue & Customs and should charge R&C for the service not the customer - who had refused to pay/hand-over the money at the counter and as they had the package in their hands they walked away telling those always obliging staff to take the matter up with the R&C. The Royal Mail duly began enforcement action on the customer and a long winded case ensued, which they eventually lost. GOOD NEWS ? NO - the Royal Mail knowing that this would set a precedent settled this one particular case and then blithely ignored the ruling, reasoning that very few people would have the resources or determination to engage in a costly battle with them. So despite the handling charge verdict going against them we are all still having to pay. What gets me is the £15 trigger point - what can you get for £15 nowadays (any category of product) - and the fact that you pay 20% VAT on the full amount - so a £15 item is duty free but a £16 item cops for a £3.20 duty charge and the Royal Mails £8.50 collection/handling charge - so a £16 item costs a further £11.70 on top of the postage already paid, invariably doubling the actual cost.

  12. Lou Johnson - Unsatisfied - Torch - Colin Curtis - the look on his face as my brother Chris and I presented him with a mint British London issue from our box - a bit like the British Nancy Ames on British Columbia alongside the Epic import - at the Mecca - dreadful irrespective of label
  13. Harthon productions as a sound - not the label - all 3 were Tower issues
  14. Got round to answering the Gene Latter question from 'Up the junction' - Can't really remember anything other than he sang 'Sign on the dotted line' several times and filled the rest of his spot with stds. Someone else mentions Four Larks - Groovin' at the go-go - Tower - (JM has just added one for auction in the run-up to Christmas with the blurb about it being a Torch monster) Setting the record straight - Dave Rivers pitched up at the Cats in mid '72 with 3 copies - got Max to play it - wow our 1st real exposure to Harthon. Max duly bought 1 for a fiver / Steve Frost likewise and Dave kept the last one and it remained like that almost until the Torch closed in early 73, I guess because that short period of time became known as the Torch era, numerous sounds which never saw the light of day in Tunstall or were at best guest spins from other boxes - Sam & Kitty being another, got bracketed together. Probably says more about who went to what venues than anything else.
  15. penned a reply about Gene Latter / Mecca and all sorts of things - wasn't signed in so lost content - can't be arsed to repeat tonight. Steve

HAPPY DAYS !!!
