  1. The Johnny Hampton on here was mine - actually regretted selling it but was moving on a great raft of sounds at the time. Actually will be listing some more killers soon - so keep an eye for more Market Day Madness. Frostie
  2. I remember going to an Northern all-nighter in Coventry in the early 90's and bumping into our daughters who were attending a rave on the upper floors of the venue when they came downstairs to see what was going on there. Quite a few ravers did the same and stood around bewildered at what they were seeing with all these 'oldies' toeing and heeling across the floor. I don't think the visit to the other genre was reciprocated by any of the soulies but who knows some could of been converted to the whistles etc.
  3. Snagged one from Brad Hales in Detroit on Discogs a couple of yrs ago 'ish - dead of night UK - $1100 - rang him at the shop - confirmed and paid over the phone - so disappeared from listing there and then - never had one before or since - thought it was a bargain - actual pulse racing as I made the call - absolute elation when it arrived 10 days later - what a sound
  4. Quite true folks - Price paid on specific 45's is a matter between the buyer / seller - So many sounds on Discogs appear to be priced on an opportunistic high basis and stick around for ages if not forever - also agree on Paris - bought one from Steve Kennedy for 4/500 back in the 90's - got it home and thought - 'Why ?' - I could have gone home with John & Weirdest or Admirations (Peaches) - Sold the Paris to Chaddy so made a profit soon after. My main point on these threads is about the drag factor when numerous copies suddenly appear in the wake of a big ticket price being achieved on any listing now that it becomes general knowledge almost immediately. Very rarely if ever re-buy anything I've had previously from over 53yrs of collecting / dj'ing unless it's at a bargain price and even then I draw back from the 'buy it now' button on most occasions. Hey ho as you say
  5. Last week it's all been about Cecil Washington now the focus moves to Carol Anderson on Whip - 2 in a few days after 1st one hits 3k + and this weekends on ebay - buy it now $3375 or best offer - interesting to see if there's any one prepared to bite at that and how many more will surface. The lunatics are running the asylum
  6. Back on my old stomping ground two weeks on the trot - Loughborough Link hotel 200+ packer last week ( dj'ing ) and then a 1st visit to Quorn Soul Club at the Greenfields Sports and Social on Sat. just gone as a punter. Good attendance and an active dance floor all night - met some great old friends from 50 yrs ago and made some new ones I'm sure from some distance to this locality. I can recommend venue as the mix of sounds from a strong lineup kept us there until beyond my bedtime - only left shortly before the end due to work on Sunday morning. Will be back as a punter and looking forward to spinning some myself in the New Yr. Frostie
  7. My brother Chris found about 10 copies in a thrift shop in Middletown, New York Aug. 72 - unknown and couldn't give them away almost - actually gave one to Levine. Happy days although I did play it quite a few times to a lukewarm reception at the Fantasia upon returning from that trip.
  8. Tough tough dj copy - what a 2-sider Needs snapping up
  9. As I said last week - here they come - it's time to cash in and the comments about it not being as rare as some think are coming home to roost. We'll see eh Steve
  10. As predicted - like buses they come in pairs or better No sooner has the dust settled on JM's auction than another copy surfaces 'buy it now ' - Darren Brown's Raresoul45's Monday list £4200 VG+ and gone within minutes - background crackle but not too bad
  11. It's been slow coming out of lock down but that's to be expected - in-ordinate amount of people still spooked by the whole thing. Numbers at about the same level as before but less interaction on the floor and at the bar. We've got a 50+ yrs anniversary re-union this Friday based on all the old clubs / coffee bars and venues from 66 to 74 in Leicester / Loughborough / Coalville - We were thinking of advertising but before we even made a decision all 225 tickets were sold - Actually had 2 returned due to illness so there are 2 spares going for what will be a packer and a surefire great night - Local charities to be supported by the gig - top line up of dj's - over 300 yrs between us on the decks - Kev Hall / Steve Frost / Bill Poole / Neil Halford / Jimmy Coulson and Dave Albon - North West Leicestershire's finest. Covid has put this gig on the back burner for heading for 2 yrs but the pent up demand is obviously there. Anyone on this site that's missed out and wants these last 2 tickets - £10 each -Link Hotel Loughborough Friday 29th Oct. 7.30 PM onwards - give me PM on here
  12. Soulettes - probably the worst deal I've ever done - did a trade for it with Tim Ashibende at Bretby back in the mid 90's - must of been 1500 £'s worth - including a Lonnie Russ - Soulettes was stone mint but I could never get any action on it when dj'ing and relegated it to the sale box fairly quickly and can't remember where it finished up. Professionals a different story - 1st copy in late summer /early autumn 72 - got in a trade in Selectadisc - Arkwright St cellar - Nottingham - Not even sure what the catalyst for the deal was but they were desperate to get my Vel-vets which like the Soulettes decades later was at the time a dance floor failure - Too fast even for that time and almost unknown. I Didn't want any cash so asked what they had for swaps - out came a small pile of 45's - including a Professionals - I'd no idea what was to come out of that giant base speaker a few seconds later - hairs on the back of the neck moment - play it again!! - what's the deal on this then - @How does £12 + Professionals sound - I said I didn't have a spare £12 - it was 72 remember and I was on £12.50 a week then. - No I'll give you £12 and the Professionals in the trade - er OK. Always a monster for me from that week onwards. Always in my box at the Torch. Sold it to JM in 1984. 2nd copy - Steve Kennedy when he sold up in the early 90's - £500 - That's another story with all the others he was forced to sell. Wish I still had one '
  13. My missus reminds me she went big-ticket but bargain on ebay 3 yrs ago for a Auto Trail Scout Six motorhome - buy it now or best offer - It had only been listed for 90 secs when she spotted it and got me to ring - down to Cambridgeshire next day - test drive - made him an offer getting a grand knocked off and did the deal - Missus paid up - I do all the driving - off to the coast again shortly - grand kids on board - getting arms like Popeye - no power steering / manual box - £30 a night leaves more money for shiny 7" things, so method in our madness.
  14. Also for kenb - £15 - fantastic Crombie tweed overcoat from a charity shop in Pickering N. Yorks - weighs a ton but what a coat.
  15. Just remembered a $25 Claudine Clark - Goodbye mama on Fayette - what a good take off of Come see about me and an easy £300 sound and so rare - £18 in 2018 and only 2 entries on popsike Might play it on Sat as we get going again at the Hare & Hounds - Whitwick - mini all-dayer 3.00 - 9.00 They're still out there for the dedicated / relentless vinyl hounds.
  16. Wow - Limelights - never seen one - what a sound I see this was Feb 2010 -
  17. Must have been a topic before but always being up-dated I'll kick off with a Mr. Soul - What happened to yesterday - Genuine Won it in the early hrs of 5th Dec. 2011 for $90 ( £66 ) - from the States with free postage. Sales details there for all to see on Popsike - including the previous sale of this 45 for $512 on 15 Nov 2011 - Exactly the same sales pitch on both - record did in fact have a non advertised fag burn on the 'yesterday' side and must have been returned for this. The first few plays by me it jumped - disappointment - 2p on stylus arm and a steady finger pressure for a couple of plays and bingo - never jumped again - result - First play out at a gig in Belper and I'm holding my breath - needn't of worried - sailed thru' - Lucky I know but these are the things that get us coming back for more.
  18. Back on the horse on Fri Aug 13th - Thringstone - lots of new 7" shiny things since last outing before lock down - life's got to go on. 6 DJ line up - so with partners etc - 20% full already Hope the regulars and newbies give us a go Frostie snr.
  19. It's the build up blurb that I like as John builds up every 45 version that he has to sell / auction as the one to have , either due to rarity of version or overall rarity and the divergence from what really happened back in 1972. Always takes me back to Levine ranting ' F***ing lies, He was never there' - true or false who really knows - what I do know is that Chubby Checker was a play at my club the Fantasia in Quorn before even I started DJ'ing there in Aug 1971 - Former Wheel / Night Owl regular and record collector / DJ Kev Hall had all the Chubby Checker sounds from Discotheque / Everything's Wrong / You just don't Know and it was this that inspired me to hunt one down when it broke as a massive sound at the Cats. - Took me @ 3 weeks - £5 - std price for good rare sounds that were being played back then - odd one at £10 and even less ( single figures ) at £15. Don't believe any of the crap about £40 + being paid for sounds. I never played it when I was rostered to DJ with Kev as it was accepted that it was one of his exclusives at our club. Even in late '72 when I sold my copy of Sam & Kitty to Hector and Swifty from Selecta disc at the Torch - again a sound never played there unless Levine was on as a guest - it was so rare - this was the copy that made JM fall back down the stairs as they played it as he left the cellar - achieved the previously unheard of price of £22 cash - left them with no money and the Valentines - Breakaway - so £27 total value. So £892 for CC is a big leap but it is a proper sound and it is 50+ yrs since it 1st broke cover. As for Joey D - awful - but so was The Shakers / Human Beinz etc but we always took on board and embraced the fact that it may not be Soul but it definitely was Northern Soul to coin a phrase. The dancers had the final say in a lot of cases My dancers at the Fantasia certainly had the hump when I sold Sam & Kitty and weren't backwards in letting me know about it. I had the chance of a real Joey D recently but couldn't see a place for it in any spot of mine and despite being relatively cheap I didn't fancy it hanging around as I tried to re-sell it. Horses for courses as always in this great music of ours
  20. Earle's - Someday baby - Te-Ti Zircons - Was it meant to be this way - Heigh - Ho Helene Smith - The pot can't talk about the kettle - Blue Soul Any one help on these PM me
  21. Bought a Paris Blues - Blue Mala issue 16/2 - arrived 22/2 from Maryland - $10 value - no hold-ups, no fees etc $16.42 std postage - all the other services are a complete waste of time and money - Global shipping a racket I try to deal only with sellers who use UPS int. pkt and have decided that ebay and the others are all in on it so would rather go without than pay another 30% + in postage /insurance/fees/tax - plenty of sounds available outside of the high cost / poor service outlets.
  22. Spelling it properly is the least of anyone's problems getting an original Best of luck
  23. All sorts of angles coming home to roost - tax on a tax as I said at page 1/1 - you can't win other than with your feet from these transactions - Royal Mail were challenged in court over charging end customer for collecting fee on behalf of HRMC and LOST - Customer contested on the basis that if the import duty / VAT was heading to HRMC then get the fee from them and WON - He had snatched the mail from the sorting office - refused to pay - RMail took him to court to recover their £8 - Royal Mail walked away and completely ignored this precedent on the basis their pockets were deeper than most customers and they wouldn't be challenged again, and they were right. Definition of antique also in there / death and taxes - unavoidable - as for ebay remitting to HRMC - who knows - I guess we all like a bargain and taking the risk on insurance / values was always one of the risks worth taking.
  24. Just seen a note on an ebay listing that from 01.01.21 - ebay will be collecting VAT (20%) on transactions going thru' them from abroad. No other details as to how it will be calculated ( usually shipping etc added and then a tax on a tax ) - Anyone out there got anymore details ? Just thought I'd cheer everyone up !!!
  25. pm'd you Off line until Thurs lunch
