Hunter Six have great sound and along with Sharon Jones and Nick Waterhouse owned the retro soul vibes. Though Nick Waterhouse has gone down the kitch vegas supper club his past 2 albums. James Hunters albums are all soul but hopefully this forthcoming coming album will have more uptempo tracks than ballads. James is a great song writer too.

Have noticed if you wait for Daptone, you have to chance limited colour vinyl being sold out. Plus they only sell what other stockists have not bought and sometimes don't have many left at that price. KTF

Not as instant as Benjamin & The Right Direction – Light Of My Life but given the integration of AI, multiple genres and over promotion a lot of good tunes go under the radar on release don't do well and then the artist concerned changes the style of music they record. Hope they have an album released rooted in soul. The AI from Riker at least is rooted in Northern soul.

I think the same thing happend with Lee Fields Two Jobs and Sharon Jones I Don't Give Friend A Number. Both potential northern playlist tracks. Daptone UK also seem to reveal on the day more than pre order on 45s. KTF

Condolances to his family and friends. Great chap, friendly to everyone even us 15 year olds that shouldn't have been there. Attendees of Oddfellows St.Ives and Peterborough all benefitted from his knowledge and The Fleet oldies room was the pre cursor to the RnB we have today. He worked at Charly records and gave me a few lps. Also re activated Ninas My Baby Just Cares before it was on an advert. Often seen at the Halcyon Peterborough before an all nighter. Praise the lord, hopefully the first Motown compilation (since Chris Kings 2 x Northern Motown) that is wholly aimed at the dancefloor and not the armchair. Some of the 7s boxset choices were to be listened to not danced to and hopefully this compilation will put things right. Licencing may have held back some wanted choices on the 7s sets but now there is even more from the vaults to come by the sounds of it. KTF

Agree with you about 1978 onwards my brothers went before me but I didn't go til 1980. Myself and Chris [brother] always went from main room to second room depending on line up times but a lot of people literally walked in and straight out.

I came 2nd and got a Motown lp from Brian. Johnny Cockrell won Supremes My World Is Empty Tamla Motown demo Fleet oldies room always open from 1980 onwards.

Could be The Fleet where Brian Rae was often playing rare RnB for 2 hours. Whilst everyone else was heading for newies. Other Djs played in there too often playing stuff before trying them in the main room. Brian Rae well ahead of everyone and pretty sure other Djs went in there and picked up tracks from Brian in that Fleet oldies room.

I don't go to many events but wondered if this David Ruffin track gets playlisted by any djs. It's atop tune and a perfect candidate for that crossover track that seems so popular. It was released legit as an lp track on the David Ruffin previously unreleased Motown album set.
