  1. There's a reasonable UK version by Judi Johnson, on HMV 1371, from 1964. Dionne Warwick also did it on the "Then came you" LP
  2. I've been collecting Impressions records for more than 40 years and have never come across any of the following: ABC 10869 Love's a comin'/Wade in the water A lot of discographies list this, but I've never seen a copy offered for sale, it's not in the JM Price Guide, doesn't seem to be in Popsike - do I need to spend any more of my remaining years looking for it? ABC ????? Girl you don't know me/A woman who loves me The "Complete A & B sides" CD compilation includes these two tracks ABC 10964 I can't stay away from you/Man's temptation Pete Burns' Curtis Mayfield biography include this - is it just a typo that should read "You ought to be in Heaven" as the B side? 20th Century 172 All though (sic) the night/Meanwhile back in my heart This appears in an article by Keith Rylatt, in Manifesto earlier this year, and shown as a 1959 release. This isn't in JM's book or Popsike either. Someone must know - boba, can you help? Happy New Year Nick

  10. I found a white label 12" in my cellar, nothing on the label but the number PPS 100 in the deadwax. I'm fairly sure it's a Pye group DJ's compilation from the late 70s, 2 of the tracks are Jimmy James"!If you think that funk is junk" and Ultimate "Ritmo de Brazil". Can anyone help with the titles and artists of the other 2 tracks? Cheers Nick

  14. One of my favourites - don't try to dance to this!
  15. I agree - a fantastic tune, which also got a UK release on Contempo. Some of the other Paula tracks are great too, especially "Now that I found a good thing" Here's a nice pic of Fontella, from the Jan '66 issue of Pop Weekly

I've just done a 2-hour show on SoulGangRadiofm ( www.soulgangradiofm.com ) - playing a variety of soul styles, goes out every Monday 6 - 8 pm, repeated same time Tuesday and available on listen again for a week. Following me you get Ozz and Tim Ashibende for 2 hours, doing a Detroit special as I type. Colin Curtis does a Wednesday night show. SoulGang is on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Worth a listen. Nick
  20. Hi Rob - I'm starting a new show next Monday, October 25th (6 - 8pm) on Soul Gang Radio: https://soulgangradiofm.com/# This will be a 24/7 soul station. I'll pm my address. Cheers Nick Marshall
  21. Can I nominate "Maggie" by Johnny Williams (Twinight)?
  22. There's a version by Tony Simon, on UK Track - presumably a UK recording. Other side's a version of the Impressions' "Never too much love", both sides produced by Donnie Elbert
  23. "Keeper of the castle" is a must - includes their (original??) version of "Love music"
  24. I've got a couple of the Grapevines on Saudi bootlegs, from the early 80s.
  25. The labels are identical, but the run-out grooves differ. The original version has "YPRO 542 A-2", the newer version has "YPRO 542 A-1" Cheers Nick
