  1. You're right, it was on an Aaron Neville CD, credited to him, which is why I bought the CD - I thought I'd discovered the vocal version! Doh!!
  2. Sticking with instrumentals, there's the Joe Thomas Group, on Cobblestone Nick
  3. Prodded by your awards post....this got plays in the late 60s as a new, or at least recent release, but disappeared in the 70s (too slow). It was definitely played at Stafford, though I couldn't pinpoint it to an individual DJ Nick
  4. Brilliant, many thanks Dave. I didn't know Melba Moore had also done it, and I see the producer is one of the writers - is it the original version? Nick
  5. Can anyone supply composer and publisher details of Ruby Winters "We're living to give" Thanks in anticipation Nick
  6. Thanks for the info, everyone. I guess I should have spotted it was the Four Tops - who else could sound so good? Talking of other versions, Jean Carn did a goodie, and Barbara Mason's version on the recent Philly meets Motown CD was tasty too. If you like an instrumental, try David T Walker. I like this song a lot! Nick
  7. I've just listened to Martha & the Vandellas "My baby loves me" - what a gem. Does anyone know who the male backing vocalists were? Nick
  8. I thought ebay had banned sales of ivory
  9. Not exactly a mishap, but massive confusion caused by the clocks going back, or maybe forward - nobody seemed to know - during a Stafford all-nighter, and 3 DJs turning up on stage simultaneously, each believing it was time for their spot.
  10. Thanks Kev - you're dead right, My Oh My is on the same tape, cracked it. Cheers Nick
  11. The Sharon Davis book "Motown: The history" (late 80s/early 90s, I'd guess) lists them all, with release dates, as well as the Regal Starline and other odd releases. It's well worth getting if you see it. Nick
  12. Sorry Phil, I got the title wrong, it's "Time made you change your mind" (at least that's what it says on the tape box, and what they sing). It's a male lead vocal with female backing vocals, sounds as if it might be Detroit.
  13. Listening to an old and incompletely-labelled tape, I found a track called "Time will make you change", with no artist's name. Anyone know who this is? Cheers Nick
  14. Thanks Guys, that's great. I love the other side too. Nick
  15. I also got one in a soul pack in '76 (£4 for 100 45s), but not from the Bowl, it was from somewhere in Lincolnshire, I think Nick
  16. Anyone any idea of the identity of Bobo Mr. Soul? I've had it suggested to me that he's really Phillip Mitchell, I'm not convinced. Nick
  17. Also done by Jimmy James, on his "New religion" LP, if I remember right Nick
  18. Des - why not post these details on the message board for Mary Fox's show on BBC Radio Stoke - it gets a few thousand local listeners, some of them must buy vinyl.
  19. To be fair, Mace, he probably has to pay a fair bit for the ballroom at the George Nick
  20. Hi Des - £20, for a six foot table. btw, the organiser is Keith Minshull - it's his number above.
  21. Can I post details of this? Black Music Record Fair George Hotel, Swan Square, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent Sunday November 2nd, 10.00 - 4.00 (dealer access from 8.00) Free admission, bar and snacks available. Enquiries and stall bookings, tel 01782 772672

Wee Willie Walker did a great version of "Ticket to ride", on Goldwax
  23. "Time marches on", by Lainie Hill? The Imperial Wonders "Just a dream" has a line in it that fits the bill: "Me in bifocals, you'll have silvery hair" Cheers Nick
  24. Fontella Bass had some fine releases on Contempo, including "Now that I've found a good thing", and the wonderful "I'm leaving the choice to you" Nick
