How to DJ
I recently bought the dvd of one of my all time favourite films ...Spike Lee's "Do the right thing" set in New York during a heat wave. Samuel L Jackson nails it for me, but it's funny how we british couldn't carry this off. If you haven't seen the film it is well woth a watch Kev

Love slipped through my fingers on Chris Evans!!
I have the Jomar release and the quality is ok, but not brilliant. The flip is "I gotta get away" which is taken from the Gloria Barnes' album "Uptown". Not as good as the album quality, but then again I wouldn't expect it to be. Neither track mentions the Ohio Players, but Johnny Brantley produced both artists and Gloria Barnes is singing on the Ohio Players track in any event I always assumed the Jomar release to be some kind of boot/unofficial release, but would be pleased to be told otherwise. Walked along the edge of the sandhills on Saturday between West Kirby and Hoylake. Taken on the phone, but you can see in the middle distance just how much the estuary has silted up. They used to rake it with a tractor every week which kept it like a typical beach but that was 20 yrs ago probably. Kev

Having spent Christmas in Australia I thought I would be posting a photo of something in brilliant sunshine. I even took my SLR with me, but the photo I was the most pleased with was taken on my mobile. It was taken in Melbourne under a bridge, where we had to take shelter from a thunderstorm. Kev

How many versions of this song are there? and which came first?
Carl Carlton's was the first version I ever heard and bought as a new release and I always thought that to be the first.

I heard it a couple of years ago. The whole album seemed to have slipped under the radar I completely missed it at the time of it's release. Kev

This must have been touted around quite a bit in the 70's "You can't stop a man in love" written by Terry Woodford and George Soule and in most versions, produced or arranged by Terry Woodford and Clayton Ivey These are the ones I know of Carl Carlton Reuben Howell Bobby Womack The Supremes (You can't stop a girl in love) The Temptations Wilson Pickett Anymore? It's Gloria (Towanda) Barnes singing on the Ohio Players version in any event. So definitely doesn't count.

Piano Intros
I heard this version of Amy Stewart - "Friends" in a bar in Greece, back in 1984 I think?, and it took me years to track it down. I was convinced it was Earl Klugh playing acoustic guitar at 2mins 50 secs and Ramsey Lewis playing the long piano break after it at 3mins 20 sec, so spent ages trying to source it without the use of internet, looking for a connection. Then Robbie Vincent did me a favour and played it on his show and it turned out to be Mike Francis. Although having never seen any info on it I have no idea who the musicians are. The best version of this by a country mile Kev

Barbara West - Congratulations Baby. Not my favourite by any means. Sounds like an out of tune piano or an old music hall piano Kev

VINYL sales outstrip downloads
I liked this bit in the article " But you also still have the 65-year-old man who smells of weed who will always come into a record shop, stand around and then ask for something you haven’t got, and then leave. So it hasn’t changed completely.” Kev
