Stax Dancers
Can't leave this out

Stax Dancers
Probably worth picking this album up for Jimmy Hughes alone. I was also going to mention Mel & Tim - Free for All, Major Lance - "Story of my life" and "I wanna make up", William Bell - "Why is the wine Sweeter", Luther Ingram - Home don't seem like a home", Emotions - Stealing love. Would be great to go to a Stax only night out Kev

I didn't discover this until a few years ago. I just love all the strings and the way Mavis comes in for her first verse. One of my all time favourite Stax tracks Kev

Show us your great photos (2016)
Had to stop the car and rest the camera on a low stone wall when I saw this down in the Cotswolds in August this year. These have been on the camera since then and the first time I've looked at them on the laptop. I've also farted around with them on Lightroom. No idea what I'm doing though! Kev

So when did "Sunshine Pop" first start getting played?
I've always liked a good pop song my favourite being Lynne Randell - Ciao Baby. A scouser who emigrated to Oz! and my copy is on Australian CBS too

So when did "Sunshine Pop" first start getting played?
Was going to ask the same thing. Is it feelgood, happy go lucky, danceable pop that sounded like it was performed by a black artist. Kev

Patti Austin Didn't Say A Word
I agree, although I have seen some records where the apparent "B" side is the one that is issued as a demo. Prime example would be Bettye Swann -"The Boy Next Door" as the demo to "Kiss my love Goodbye" Although a quick Google search shows up both as demos! But that's Atlantic.

Patti Austin Didn't Say A Word
So does that mean there is no such thing as a demo of YDSAW only the A side posted above. Kev

Patti Austin Didn't Say A Word
Would the demo be like this one which came out earlier? The issue of CFTOIL was red as above,or had the label design changed by then Kev

Double Exposure's Jimmy Williams RIP
I can understand why, the front cover is okay, but the back cover's a bit tasteless. Kev

Double Exposure's Jimmy Williams RIP
I first heard Ten Percent at the Ritz in Manchester and have always enjoyed his amazing vocals, especially on "Gonna give my love away" and "Pick Me". Even bought the Locker Room album too, which has some great tracks on it. RIP Jimmy

James Jamerson and Carol kaye revisited
A side issue, I know, but on the "What's Going On" album pull out sleeve notes, it says that tenor Saxophone is played by George Benson. Is that the well known man, or is there another? I know many musicians can play more than one instrument, but I never had him down as a sax session musician. Maybe because this was before he made it big as a solo artist. It also credits Bob Babbit as well as James Jamerson as a contributing bass player. Kev

Artists that sound like other artists
Don't know if this has been covered before, but there must be quite a few artists that sound like other artists. Just been playing this and thought how at the tme of its release, it reminded me of Curtis Mayfield. I can think of quite a few other records that have that effect Like Corey Glover Little Girl sounds like Al Green Any more?
