  4. It's on "Buffalo's Reflection". Had it and sold it many years ago. No idea of value these days.
  5. It's very kind of you not to remind me that I also ran out of petrol after picking you up rolling down the hill into Loughborough! Papa Luigis ??, Peterborough. Probably '84/85??
  6. Just that I sourced them from the Lp's. Also, Simon if you're talking about 12's, a monster at the time was Charles Mann "Sho Nuff No Funny Stuff Love". Though of course this was U.S release!

  8. These are due to finish this evening (apart from the Joe Coleman). I'm amazed how much interest in Aaron Broomfield - 225 views. (price still low though!) Also I played the flip to the Pierce Bros last night. I thought it was an inst of the topside (I had'nt played it in over 20 years) It's not - sounds like excellent Deep Funk (not that I know too much about that genre). Anyone know if this has been played? Flip is "Bi Bi Bi Di Bi Di Pi" .
  9. Anyone that was following the Joe Coleman will have noticed that it disappeared last week (circumstances beyond my control!). It's back now.
  10. Pretty sure it was "Little Joe Romans" C/U by Sam.
  11. Hi Steve, Played my copy of Masterpiece the other day - a great "Throwback" record!. Rudy Stewart,Chuck Cissell and Love Committee all sound as good 25 years on!
  12. Exportations 7", Pierce Bros 7", Aaron Broomfield 12",Joe Coleman 7", Raydiant 7" Hit the link! https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZfilbertuk
  13. I can certainly vouch for that Barry. You are one of the best guys I've ever met on the Scene! Hope all is well with OHS.
  14. Simon, Cut Glass was a very big record at the Steve Croft do's early' 80's - Cleethorpes Prt II, Bradford Bensons, etc. Jay Player got a lot of play at the early Weekender's very late '80's I seem to remember.
  15. I got to 2 or 3 of the Oak Hotel do's. Nice Intimate venue. The record that seemed to be the "anthem" there was the great Jean Carn "No No No (You Can't Come Back Now)". The guys there really knew there stuff. Is Pip still around?
  16. And my team (Foxes) bottom of the leage Derek.."It's An Uphill Climb To The Bottom".....Sure Ady Croasdale, John Manship,Pete Shirley and Lee Vowles will all agree!!!
  17. Seemed pretty good at the time - two very different records. "Dream Lady" very mellow mid pacer. Jesse Mitchell much more gritty and uptempo. Both sides of this pretty good. Jesse Mitchell got a bit of play. There was a high turnover of records at the time but the Scene was really quite small.
  18. Yes Graeme's 7's all went to Soul Bowl.(Not sure about the Lp's)
  19. Hi Simon, Yes I sure can! I got Poke's copy when he sold a load of stuff. (Through Rich Broughton - Nottm) Yes it was Hugh Boynton - i paid £80. I also got the Charisma Band for £5 before any real exposure on the Modern/Northern scenes. Fantastic record - and yes Coops I first heard and fell in love with it at Cleethorpes. I played it heavily at Stafford and various Venues I Djed at mid 80's. Before I sold it to Graeme Ellis I was asked by Gary Cape if he could borrow it to do a legit repress. Jesse Boone had not got the master anymore. These were on yellow label (Still got my complimentary copy!) People try to sell these as originals but the original is a dark blue. Any other proper originajs turned up over the years?
  20. Just dug my Nina Simone out. I have it on VPI Lp 1985 (I used to play it as a new release). I see that it is produced by Eddie Singleton...Excuse my ignorance but is this THE Eddie Singleton?! (It's out of Hollywood - Video Pix Corp production)
  21. [quote name='Simon White'But extend all this to Larry Houston 'Lets Spend Some Time Together' a Wigan play with its handclap break...but as untraditional northern Soul as you can get. So when Richard Searling played it, just how was he describing that sound? Was he calling it 'Modern Soul' because it was big at what was still traditionally a very 'Northern ' venue? ?
  22. As was mentioned above by someone ,the term in relation to "latter day" Modern Soul (i.e. not Mecca) definately came from Sam and Arthur at the start of the 80's. Snaith, Brum Locarno,Shef Tiffs,Oak Hotel Shrewsbury etc. Small roomed affairs playing predominately new releases albums, 7's both indie and major label, rare and not rare. Sam definately talked about this new "Modern Soul Scene" frequently in Steve G's "Blackbeat" and Glyn's "Okeh NS". I've got them all in the loft for that rainy day that never comes. They were inspirational times, not well attended but a seemingly never ending supply of quality music. Those that were there will agree. There was a great feeling of unity and the belief that this was the start of something special....good to see that 25 years + on we were right!!!
  23. Don't forget the great flip as well Simon "Jekyll and Hide Lover".
