Certainly do Tony! Just think Geoff Oakes was an old Stoke/Wigan boy! Wall of Sound "Critical" is just one of the best records EVER!..."Don't you know I'm falling..."

Hi Dodge, Yes plenty of average stuff over the years (15 odd I reckon so not surprising!) but heres 10 of the best... 1. Kim English - Nitelife 2. Byron Stingily - Don't Fall In Love 3. Akema - So In Love 4. Nu Yorican Soul - The Nervous Track (Maw's finest moment?) 5. N.Sync - Turn Off The Lights (AWESOME version of Teddy!) 6. Club Artists Utd - Sweet Chariot 7. Halona - Don't Give Up On Love 8. Umosia - Love Don't Let Me Down 9. Sandy B - Feel Like Singing 10.Viola - Little Girl Always liked some of the earlier "trackier" stuff too ..Swing Kidz, Classic Man etc.
  5. Walking with Pete Shirley from Derby City Centre to Pride Park to see Foxes take on Derby, we were amused to hear "The Joker" blasting out of a pub....we had a look in...and the pub was empty with no one at all to be seen - very surreal... Best buzz was hearing probably one of my fave record of the last 3/4 years in a shop at Dalton Park Outlet nr Sunderland recently...The Superimposers "Would It Be Impossible". Taken from a Jazzanova comp Cd "Secret Love vol 1" I was very surprised..
  6. Tony, "Love Saves The day" by Tim Lawrence (Duke ISBN 0-8223-3198-5) is pretty definitive. ("A history of American dance culture 1970 -79") A labour of love. He's supposed to be doing a follow up covering the 80's/90's - Can't wait!

Fine thanks Barry, not out and about much (18 month old son Harvey keeping me very busy!) but loving my music still. Quality House as always and a worrying amount of Jazz too these days! Always hearing good reports of OHS - maybe one day! Number one Cd for me at the moment is 4Hero - CLASS!!

well I thought I'ld cut and pasted that reply beautifully...ah well... So much stuff out there now on the radio/net but my first port of call is always Paul Phillips on Solar/Sky Sat night show for all the best new releases. Check out the playlists at www.showplaylist.com

Nice one Barry! Seems like yesterday! 15/16 years ago? You've got to be joking! Thanks for some of the best nights ever! Good to see the playlists again. ATB mate.
  11. Should'nt have thought so Murraymint
  12. Yes Simon - I got the 7" off Soul Bowl for about £30 in about '83 - Must say the flip is very underrated -"Just let me Know"
  13. Good role call there Steve...anyone seen Phil Worrall lately? Hope he's ok. Character and a half.
  14. One of my fave late Wigan memories ("Inner Space") and one I would never want to part with - but anything in the high hundreds (on the above info!) would certainly be considered
  15. quote name='John Reed' date='Feb 22 2007, 11:19 PM' post='443283'] The J's - When did you stop - Dore. I saw a few on Gemm for about £30. I enquired on here about the difference between the 7" and the 12" (I didn't want a five minute instrumental bit in the middle) as John Manship has the 7" for £100. Once I got some reply posts, they were gone before I could buy. Maybe I should have bought first and asked second.
  16. Ady, my bruv Sammy/Neil goes to Kings Hall still (he lives in Stoke). He ususally sees Spud and Ashleigh there. Say hi to Andy when you see him next! Cheers.
  17. Ady, Ywca in Loughborough for me as well! '76 though for me. Great nights - . Knowledge developed with listening to older brother's Cleethorpes Winter Gardens live Niter tapes. Then on to the East Mids circuit, Palais dayers ( wish i'ld met Byrney all those years ago!), Lboro ('77) Niters then all points North!

  19. Wille Dishmon...still got mine. Good record. One went on Ebay for 35 the other day - thought it may have gone for more!
  20. Remember run-ins outside Fleet P'boro early '80's. In particular a beer barrel getting launched at the queue once? Also have memories of post-niter ambush in Loughborough one Sunday afternoon early '80s. A few of us were meandering back to the flat after a post Niter lunchtime session in the pub - when a car pulled up and a gang of lads jumped out with pool cues... We all legged it but think a couple of our group got caught...This was all due to love interest in one of our Niter lasses by a local meathead. Others I remember hyperventilating after safe exit were Jamie Saul (Rip), Ady Connolly, Rob Tipper (all Derby), Gary Baker/Lowey (Stoke)
  21. Anyone mentioned the infamous "Preston Street Dancers" yet? Great memories for me - it's a close call but my fave record of all from CH must be The Pretenders "Just Be Yourself".
  22. As was posted elsewhere - the first two were Horizon and Hugh Boynton.....how about Young Devines on Note "Ain't that Sharp" for the Notables, Rick Shepherd "Just You and Me" for Johnny Pearson...Jacki Jacobs - was this Deep South Dance Band? Probably not as that was "Don't it make you feel good" and I remember the Jacki Jacobs was a crunching stomper? A bit harder than the DSDB. Halcyon days Simon! Cheers. Robin.
  23. I've been in touch with Mike this week. I can confirm he is alive and well! He may be going to Fish's do on the 27th at Burton....
  24. I've never said it was'nt rare Simon. I always had a feeling it was a real rarity. I did pay either £15 or £20 for it - off Guy H. after one of his U.S. trips. Sold it to Steve Kilgour late '80's and repented at leisure.....
  25. Otis Clay - the Only Way is Up - Echo 7", Carol Anderson - "Ain't Giving Up" - Coup Lp (Inc "Sad Girl") https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=019 https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=019
