  1. Prices are to the right of each record. What browser are you using?
  2. Thanks for the feedback.
  3. Thank you all for your feedback. I guess I was a little too optimistic about the speed with which the sounds would load. I have removed all of the embedded sound files and made them hyperlinks instead. Please have another look at my sales list and let me know if you have any trouble: Solid Hit Soul sales list thanks, Greg
  4. I've just updated my sales page with a ton of new records - northern, r&b, and funk. All items have label scans and sound files embedded. Have also added Google Checkout, so would be very curious to hear any feedback from people who try to use that and have difficulties. The embedded sounds take awhile to load, but I think it'll be worth it for anyone who needs to hear what the records sound like. www.solidhitsoul.com/sales.html
  5. If you're not sorted on this yet, I've got 2 of these for sale here: https://solidhitsoul.com/sales.html
  6. i have a sly, slick and wicked for sale here: https://solidhitsoul.com/sales.html i have it listed for the other side, "Confessin' a Feelin'"
  7. i have one for sale here: https://solidhitsoul.com/sales.html
  8. I always thought this was a reissue label.
  9. I don't know of anything he did that comes out on any label besides Axis. And yes, this is a purple label. Earlier releases were yellow or red, but by this is one of the later outings for the label. This is a pretty good record, and probably rare, but I'm curious to know if anyone's ever paid what Manship lists it for.
  10. Anyone know what this record is worth? Bobby Black "Right On" (Axis 117). It's in Manship's guide (5th edition) for 1000.00. Is that right? Optimistically high, but still rare and desirable? Or simply a typographical error?

There's a few different types of boxes in this video: https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1337986173636
  12. Traci Borges pressed these up. He sent me some a few about 7 ot 8 years ago when I inquired about buying originals from him, and I sent them back to him.
  13. You'd have to contact David Griffiths to get a shipping estimate, but covers33 quality is poor compared to the ones from oriviousrecords.com. The sleeves are not even in the same league.
  14. These are top quality, thick card sleeves. https://oriviousrecords.com/sleeves/ He (Dave Griffiths) had them specially made to his own specification. And he's a soul collector, so you're helping out one of our own by buying from him.
  15. This copy is on its way to New York City.
  16. I am also from the States, and I can certainly identify with the desire to "grab onto a stack with one hand". But I've also been to the UK so many times for so many years, that I think I can understand why the UK contingent seem to have more respect for the 45rpm format than we do here. The very fact that you cannot "grab onto a stack" of UK 45's with one hand has a lot to do with it. You must treat each individual 45 with some measure of respect because you need to hold them with just your thumb and index fingers. I don't think we have the same level of appreciation for the 45rpm format in the USA as they do in Britain because we did not have to handle our records the same way they did. I personally have never seen UK records in as poor condition as many US records, and I attribute it to the fact that the 45rpm format was a "throwaway" format in the US, but a more respected format in the UK. Unfortunately (or not) for the UK soul scene, they decided that obscurity was an important factor in the sounds they appreciated, so they quickly depleted the sounds available to them on the small-hole, UK-pressed 45rpm record and had to broaden their horizons and look to the other side of the Atlantic for sounds that never appeared on the small-hole format.
  17. Indeed it did. Although for some reason, I was under the impression that the winning bidder already had the record. On a side note, wasn't there someone who claimed a couple of years ago (falsely) that quantity was found on this and was able to secure a copy (or 2) from people who were afraid to hold on to a record that had turned up in quantity?
  18. Sounds to me like the issue is that someone put out a record without permission and without remuneration to the proper people. Dave is in touch with Gordon Keith, and is trying to do the right thing in finding out if he can get in touch with whoever bootlegged the record so that some money can be sent to Gordon Keith. Having been to Gordon's house myself, I concur that he could certainly use the money.
  19. Yes, it involves asking every collector you know, trawling old lists, etc. I must have put it on tapes, minidisc, and CD for dozens of people over the years, and this is the first I've heard of anyone else having it. I've spoken to many people more knowledgeable than I who had never seen or heard of it, so I assumed it was pretty obscure. I still think it's very obscure and very rare. When the Ovide load was found about 15 years ago, the only Drells label release that turned up was the Cold Four. And in all the years I've spent tracking down and interviewing the members of the TSU Toronados, the record has only popped up once, and I bought it. I'm happy to hear that there are more copies about, as it means the likelihood of exposure is greater. I think I had the first copy of Two Plus Two on Velgo to turn up as well, and since then a few more have turned up, but it's still a very rare record.
  20. Wow! Hope the track gets some exposure. Certainly deserves to be spun. I don't DJ often and when I do, it's usualy a 60's uptempo set, so I don't usually put this in the playbox. Went down well at the Bumpshop night at APT in NY last year, though.
  21. Just curious... how did you hear of this record? For a long time (about 10 years), I thought I had the only known copy. 2 very nice sides!
  22. Are the Cheques on Hip "Sweet Sally Brown" the same group as the Cheques on Heatwave? I seem to recall that Hip was a Memphis label, possibly Stax-related.
  23. Pete, you're talking about the rarity of the book itself and the collectibility of it now - probably to UK buyers. That's got nothing to do with what Gene is saying about the information from the guide (via the book itself or via photocopy) being readily available in the mid 90's at record shows and shops all over the northeastern US. Simon marketed the book to US dealers, particularly those outside of California. I'm sure he didn't want it ending up in the UK - what good would that have done him? Gene and I would know. We were here in the US trying to buy lots of records at that time.
  24. I've always thought you could have made a good living if you'd chosen records as a career . For a period of about 10 years (approx 1996 to 2006), despite price guides and ebay (an argument could be made that it was in no small part DUE to price guides and ebay), I was able to vastly expand my collection and earn a tidy second income from selling the "spares" and non-northern items I picked up. I must also say that for many of the rarer items on my wants list, I've always told US dealers that I would pay the full book price and sometimes would pay a premium over book price. Some records just don't turn up often enough to quibble over the price.
