Detroit emeralds. They were brought over by Chris Burton of the torch. Spent the evening with Chris and Mr and Mrs minshull chatting with them in the dragonara hotel just across the road from the venue Happy times! Julian

Well, Mr Soussan originated from Leeds (from Morocco originally) so you would expect them to hit our shores in Leeds

John Abbey
I attended the first show that Major did when John brought him over. It was held at a club in Halifax. The backing group that John had organised had absolutely no idea what his records sounded like and were awful. So awful in fact that we managed to stop the performance and played Major's records to them so that they had an idea of what they were supposed to be playing. Major was so grateful that when he started again he had me on the stage with him leading the 'clapping etc' to his songs. I still have the 'Rhythm of Major Lance' LP that I took that night and had signed - To Julian from a friend, thanks, Major Lance. In hindsight, listening to the 'Live at the Torch' LP, I don't think the backing group learned very much Not on the photograph of the 'crowd' at the Torch as I was on the stage with Otis Leavill ( got a copy of Boomerang' signed that night). Happy days.

Docker also used to bring the sharpees ' do the 45' to the wheel. I played the Mercury issue of the prophets at Lord Jim's in Huddersfield. I sold my issue last year to Martin Alsop as I had just got the Mercury demo

Was John instrumental in bringing over Major Lance for his tour when he recorded the live LP at the Torch? I think he did but my memory is not what it once was!

Red Bull Interview - Dave Godin
Hi, I've not listened to the article but Dave was the first person I know to have done a 'cover up'!! - As I mentioned earlier, this was the Adlibs - Nothing worse which he gave to John Bollen to bring 'up north' for us to play. Pretty sure he covered another tune but I can't remember what it was.

Red Bull Interview - Dave Godin
I , can't open the attachment but if it's Nothing worse than being alone it was definitely played around 1971as a cover up. I think John bollen brought it up north for Dave
