We're all entitled to our own opinions but why kick someone when they're down or in this case dead? She was a jazz singer at heart which is perhaps why many may not appreciate her. She wasn't black, American or underground and became popular far too quickly I guess for some 'soulies' to take her seriously and obviously her 'flaws' and dreadful 'intoxicated' live appearances in her later years didn't help. Only two albums were released when she was alive but a posthumous album and many compilations have surfaced with songs only recorded live, so before you jump on the 'haters' bandwagon please at least listen to her complete catalogue and then come back and say she wasn't good! For starters she performed two Donny Hathaway tracks live at Union Chapel in 2006. How anyone who professes to love soul music can't appreciate these performances is beyond me!

He had Freddie Chavez listed on his mailshot yesterday which had a current bid of £3,315 but I couldn't find it on his site and it doesn't seem to appear on his latest email ... is it a case of buyer remorse ... as that bid was twice the highest of Popsike?

Latest release from Nashville's DeRobert & The Half-Truths will be available on vinyl 7" 4th June It's the title track of their new album which is also released the same day (not sure if it will be on vinyl though?). 'Storming' funky northern (160 BPM) not for the faint-hearted! -

New single (and follow up to the great Love Is Knocking) released digitally by Izipho Soul / Angel Dove on 14 Apr is a great version of Ronnie Mc Neir's Isn't She A Pretty Thing. Recorded with the blessing of Ronnie McNer as they are both currently members of the Four Tops and the musicians are those used by the Four Tops and The Temptation on tour led by Earl Van Dyke Jr. The full version is available for download from BandCamp. It was available on most of the digital platforms from 3rd Apr ... but he was only 'considering' putting it out on vinyl .. until I put him in touch with Mark Anderson at MD. However, as Laura Rain's last 45 came out on LRK, they may have gone that route. For what it's worth ... it's currently at #6 on Starpoint's UK soul chart.

UPDATE MD Records has just announced https://www.facebook.com/MDrecordreleases/ that they have done a deal with Al Lindsey to release the new single on vinyl. It should be due in about 8 weeks (current climate permitting!). It was just coincidence that I happened to be speaking to Mark & Al at the same time and put them together to work out a deal!

Just outside the 5 year range (Dec 2105) but the flip of Mighty Typhoons (from Holland) (posted by amsterdam Russ) is a version of Margie Joseph's great crossover tune.

Had an enquiry about vinyl 'availability' so contaced Al and this is his reply: "I am seriously considering vinyl. I have never released in vinyl previously but the response to this work mandates it" ... so watch out for a 45 ... possibly on LRK?
