Macmillan Fundraising Day.. Golf Shoe Shufflers 1st July
Louis commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
As I've just taken up golf as a retirement hobby myself, I know that it won't be an "easy" day for the golfers, especially having Tef with them :-) ! I've donated and I'm sure with Jock and Chuddy supporting the event, it will be well managed on the day. I just wonder if some promoters are now thinking of Northern soul golfing week-enders???!!!***? Have Fun guys and hope all goes well for you on the day. Louis -
A Few Northern/&70T's From A Just Found Old Sales Box (From About 5 Years Ago)
Louis replied to Louis's topic in Record Sales
No idea on prices and people can always make an offer. The prices were what I'd placed on the covers about 3 or 5 years ago. I'm not a record dealer and am just testing the water for future sales. I thought this would be a good place to ascertain the correct prices. I've sold a few records over the years to "good" friends, who had them in their sales boxes, a week later, for double what I sold them. So these days I am careful I don't undersell. Louis -
Gave you duff info, after looking through my boxes the original is yellow with two hands clasped at the top of Trans, whereas the yellow boot just has the writing Trans records (for some reason I was thinking of Lenis guess Just ask me (same era) as the boot was orange and the original gold Doh!) HTH's Louis

The first one (Blowing my mind to pieces) I bought was the yellow pressing. Years later I got the proper one and think it is gold (or orangey, if thats a word). So it could be the orangey gold first, then the yellow pressing. Brilliant record. happy memories (highland room first time heard it for me). I'll try and find it and let you know. Louis

My first memory of the Highland room was opening the doors along the corridor and hearing Mitch Ryder-Breakout (1971). Then it was weekly trips thanks to the free buses they provided. Watneys red barrel was in the pumps. Doormen wore dicky bows. Young men had to have a jacket, shirt & tie, trousers and shoes just to get in. Escalators. Brut. 18" centre vents. Scottish tartan in a blackpool nightclub. It was also quite daunting for the first time young male punter, especially visiting the "gents". I remember two young lads coming out of the gents and one saying "I thought you said you knew him, so why did he take all my money off me?" . The other lads reply was "He didn't hit you though, did he.......I told you I knew him!" Music wise my selected memories are: Mr Creator, Theres a ghost in my house, last minute miracle, I'm standing, do it to it and late seventies just before I decided the casino was much better music wise. Hearing for the first time................ what a difference a day makes............supership..... which for me are mecca records. I was out with Bernie Golding this weekend and we were discussing some mecca tunes mid seventies. I said they used to play "waldo roderick dehammersmith" by the miracles at the mecca but he said he had never heard it........ Can someone confirm that they heard it played at theBlackpool mecca (75ish) ?? Louis

I was going to say semi retired, but I thought saying "semi" was too rude Louis

Ey up Derek Do you really want me to post more memories or photo's? Remember you are in some of them and I thought we agreed that what happened at Cleethorpes stays in Cleethorpes (i.e. that photo of you in bed ASLEEP surrounded by 7" vinyl when Willie T was on????). Hope to be posting more as I've more time now due to retirement! Hi Chalky I'm sure our paths will cross sometime in the future..........don't know where don't know when.........but.............. Take care Louis

After writing yesterday I started thinking about Jumbo records. Always used to visit on my trips to Leeds. Not 100 per cent, but thought it was in the Queens arcade? Also think it used to be on the ground floor and then moved to the first floor. Two records I remember purchasing their was; Surprise party for baby, they used to have a box on the counter with reduced prices. Think I paid 70p. The other one was advertised on the back wall as Leeds Central secret sound uncovered and available. Watson T Browne "What can I say" on blue pye. Louis

The real reason they were called the Preston cybermen was that all of us had massive pupils just like the cybermen. It was Gaz kellett who first used the phrase at a top of the world event. He always said to me that I wasn't a real Preston cyberman as I was born in Yorkshire and supported Leeds. First time I remember seeing and talking to Gaz for the first time was on a sunday night at the roper hall in Preston (think he was 15 at the time). He had an army balaclava on wearing it back to front with 2 clothes pegs attached looking like antennas. Gaz came to my wedding in 1979 with a get wellsoon card and 2 fly swatters (a blue and pink one!) Had many an eventful journey over the years with Gaz, (Casino Prestonions- Gordon, Wes(RIP, Joey etc.) Stan, Dave Molloy, Billy, Shentz etc and Pete Lawson (RIP). Preston/Leyland and north west had a good crew in those days..................Happy Days Louis (Never allowed to be a cyberman! (according to Gaz) even though I lived in Preston from 5 years old to 24 years old and drove em all over the place !

Leeds central was my first ever allnighter in the early seventies. Think I did Elland road first, standing on the Gelderd end with a small record box, then to relatives for tea in Tadcaster. Went to the wharfedale in Tadcaster first and caught last bus to Leeds. I hitch hiked form Preston once to get there and it took me and my mate 2 hours to get to Leeds then 12 hours the following morning to get back. remember walking down and "walk like a man" was playing. Very happy days and a wonderful venue. Nice to see Cockney Steve on the reunion photo's..........He still owes my about 12 pints :-) Love Leeds Hate Ken bates Louis

I remember the Southend working mens club in stafford. We had one of Gaz kellet's stag dos there! We thought we had booked The concert room prior to the niter, but it was double booked with a country and western singer. We all sat at the back and for some reason we were in "high" spirits! So much so that we all accompanied the cowboy singer. He came over to us at the end of the night and thanked us for being one of his best audiences! I also had a dizzy do there and lost my balance.........nobody noticed! Picture from working mens club left to right: Colin Taylor, Paul Shenton, Gaz kellet & Marc Jacket

Mmmm..........there seems to be a slight bit of confusion here! Hope this helps. There are in fact 2 of us called Louie/Louis. Think I've been introduced to the guy from Runcorn (Louie) as my nickname is also Louis (real name used monday to friday is John Lewis!) I'm originally from Near Leeds, but moved to Preston when I was 5. Always Knocked about with Kellet, Gis, Stan, Shentz, Molloy etc. AKA Preston Cyberman (Stafford). I have been living in Westhoughton for 25 years, but most people think of me as Louis from Preston. Gis is alive and kicking doing some work with Lancaster University, Geology and still has his records, especially the one I want off him..."Wait for me", Brown bombers and soul partners! So to sum up Jock and Kirsty were talking about me (Mick nipped Violet to make her cry!!!) and Eddie and salmon were talking about the other Louie. I have never DJ'd at Mr.M's (although have Dj'd at the Hacienda!) or Knocked about with Hovis (although did Knock off a small Hovis loaf from the corner shop once.) The Louis from Preston

I've got Gaz & Dave's phone and address's, but I'd contact them first to see if it was OK to pass on.............Let me know if you want to contact them and I will pass it on to the Soul Twats! Driving to and from venues with them two, along with Stan & Pete Lawson was no picnic, but very very Funny ! Happy days Louis
