No, if they'd spelt it Herbert it would be pronounced Er-Bert which is nothing like Si-lent Glo. I reckon I was the closest with my guess as Uniques is an anagram of Silent Glo if it had 2 more letters and different ones obviously. What do I win? ROD
  2. 1970's!!!!!Well Tone that's news to me!!! Do you mean mid-80's and 1986. As far as I am aware this track and the others Tone mentions were rejects from the first "From the Vaults.." '79 compilation. A mate in LA assisted on it with Tom de Pierrio and he'd taped a lot of the tracks for reference. I was over there in'81 in his flat when he put the tape on and "Forever in my heart" ["Come on back to me baby"] boomed out. Got a copy of the tape and brought it back to UK where Dave Withers and I had acetates cut and played them first at Stafford. As for this "speeding" up of tracks I can only assume that whatever my mate used to record the tracks or whatever he recorded them from was somehow faulty and that's how they came out. Sounded fine to me as I had nothing to compare them to. Marvin we did cover as JJ Barnes "It's killing me". ROD

Silent Glo......Bit hard that!!! Surely a W missing you anker. ROD
  4. You've felt that attraction too then!!! I think you'll find feedback was left on 27th October, the day I received the 45 after a long delay which unfortunately I cannot blame on you as you posted it on 10th. I look forward to your dissertation on the Promised Land 45. ROD
  5. That's a very well researched and informative answer. Why didn't he make it up like the rest of us? I think he should be thrown off the site. What about Promised Land then, eh?...........come on!!!! ROD
  6. The only couple of soul things I remember being around on the bona-fide Eric were re-issues of "Michael" CODs and "Hey girl" Freddie Scott which of course aren't Amy/Mala/Bell [unless distributed which I don't think they were]. Guess someone just used label design for later bootlegs but if John does know owt perhaps he could also shed some light on Promised Land " Cheyanne" release which was hugely popular at one time and yet only on Eric as far as I know. ROD
  7. As an expert in the field of wave mechanics I'ver listened to this track whilst adjusting my huge tweeters and have come to the conclusion that it's 70's which explains what's basically wrong with it. Apart from that the drag I detect could be due to being off-centre. My invoice is in the post. ROD
  8. List updated to take into acount the vast interest shown and added a couple more 45s Thanks ROD PS This is just a blatant contrivance to get this to the head of the queue in case anyone is daft enough to buy any.
  9. Can't remember it being booted unless on Out of the Past which rings a faint bell. It was popular around 72/73 but always pretty common. I'd say hard to get £20 for it. Mischief from your description it sounds an orig. Label is pink with "Pepper" in white. Shortcuts is #434 so I assume yours will be a three figure release #. Y thing is black and white and Christ knows what it's supposed to be. A vampire?. Maybe microphone? Gotta be something to do with pepper I suppose. Some kinda seed? Pretty worthless over past 30 odd years so just cos it was free doesn't mean it was a boot. ROD

FLY!!!! Have you been watching re-runs of the Jeffersons again? Is that a monument in the background or is one of the group mighty pleased to be there. I'd go for Unifics or Blue Magic on a bad-hair day? ROD

It's on the tip of my tongue but I know they did a beautiful, poignant ballad full of yearning and loss - "I left my two-tone mohair suit in San Fransisco". Isn't it a random selection of modern soul fans? ROD
  12. It's not elitist. It's bloody barmy. What happened to Ferret by the way? ROD

  14. I bet he got down to the site early and threw his towel over it so we all didn't see it!! ROD
  15. I've just added in brackets tradeable values IMO. I hope that doesn't break any rules!!! ROD
  16. Yes Epic a touch OTT with overtones of Captain Oates but setting himself up nicely for the prodigal son scenario at a later date. I think we have enough prima donnas on the soul scene as it is and Im sure Phil recognises the sin of pridefulness. Looks to me like he's now missing a big opportunity to represent his faith on here by the simple means of contributing his thoughts within a virtual community whereby his beliefs are the bedrock on which his interactions with other members are based. IMO we have right now a hell of a lot of money-changers in the Temple of Northern Soul and a bit of plain Christian speaking would be rather refreshing. ROD

I agree with Brian. Ex is not Mint and £323 on Ebay was most I've seen it sell for recently. ROD
  18. Well because I've been looking for 45s for years that are cheap such as a Minty copy of 4 Tops "Baby I need your loving" on USA Motown. eventually got a WDJ for £15 about 3 weeks ago. I'd put this 45 in "Wants" on here at least twice and had no luck. I figured £10-15 for a copy so if I saw it for £80 I'd assume that was OTT. So price is nothing to do with how available that particular 45 is. Similarly I thought Symphonics was an OK 45 but a bit messy and with inflation £20-30, so £50 seemed OTT IMO. You may as well ask Mick why he listed it at £20 Buy-it-now. Both of us are just as experienced in selling 45s as Andy and yet Mick was happy to sell it at £20 and I thought that was about right. With hindsight Andy was correct in obtaining a good price as a seller which is why I have a pushbike and he has a Mazarati for use when his main car is having the chauffeur cleaned. ROD
  19. Andy I think Chalky referred to your list as "proof" that Symphonics is now £150. As you sold it and got six other offers then I have to eat my words although on the good side at least I got a bargain!! Boba has confirmed that it's extremely scarce in Chicago and I gotta admit that having spent many months there in the 90's I didn't find it there either that I can remember. On the other hand no one was asking me for it either so any demand must be pretty recent. However, and despite the demand you relate, I bet you can still pick it up for less. Clara Hardy entered into it because despite experience sellers can make mistakes and I certainly did think £400 was way over the top for this 45 now. Obviously if it wasn't yours then you probably didn't set the price but here's a copy for £290. Im sure Detroitantiques will be listing another very soon as well. https://cgi.ebay.com/NORTHERN-SOUL-CLARA-HA...VQQcmdZViewItem Just because someone paid £400 doesn't make that the going rate. Seven people willing to pay £150 or more would tend to suggest that you're right with the Symphonics but again I'd disagree with Chalky that you can ignore Ebay as a reliable guide to prices and suggest that Symphonics isn't going to fetch $300 on Ebay. Slight fly in the ointment there in that I had been looking for a copy for years and Mick's was the first I'd seen but 45s do tend to suddenly appear on there once copies start selling for real money. I guess that's just US dealers becoming aware of the title. ROD
  20. Apologies for hi-jacking thread but Im pretty sure last copy of this 45 on here was £50 few weeks back. I only know this cos I'd just got a copy off Mick Smith for £20 on Ebay Buy-it-now and I thought that's a bit expensive when Mick had it at £20 and I certainly wasn't the first to look at Mick's. How Chalky arrives at £150 Christ knows other than Andy's list. Chalky would also have us believe that Ebay is not a reliable indicator of record prices so I guess Im to ignore Clara Hardy selling now regularly at just over £100 on Ebay and take Andy's £400 valuation according to the same list mentioned by Chalky. Don't know why people bother bidding against each other on the Clara Hardy when Detroitantiques or whoever has probably got enough to go around. Ferret I'd hang on a bit until Symphonics is not flavour of the month. ROD

Have either of them got a version of "Ain't no mountain high enough" on the flip?
  22. I thought his best was his version of Virginia Blakely? ROD
  23. https://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-70S-SOUL-LOU-CURT...1QQcmdZViewItem Trust that link works. Know we've covered this somewhere before but did we reach a conclusion. Just seen this for stupid money on Ebay. It is a boot, right? Made for beach market I assume as the Pad is a famous club at Mrytle Beach and the otherr side is a track off a Robert Winter LP? ROD
  24. Maybe the other side is OK? ROD
  25. Sorry mate, I stand corrected but I 've never been to Dublin although I do have relatives in Cork who are extremely friendly and likeable if only I could understand a word they were saying. ROD
