Venture A Guess
I think Chris you should post another picture as a "tie-break" as we were all pretty close, with Bearsy making the most educated guess, as there were four members of a possible Jackson 5 on the ground and you would naturally assume that Michael would be on top of the monument dangling one of his offspring. Don't make it so easy this time. ROD

Marvin Gaye Love Starved Heart Of Mine
I did post earlier but everybody appears to be ignoring it. The facts follow and maybe others can firm up dates and confirm time period. First of all Im amazed that Tone had these in mid-70's. He musta kept them pretty quiet as did the guy he got them off as when I got the tape no one had heard any and general reception was amazement that there was stuff like this at Motown which had not been released. Butch,Keb,Guy,Tim and rest of 60's Mafia had not heard anything about them. I did know Daly City Bob but not well and these did NOT come from him. Tom de Pierrio was involved with my mate,Bob Klein, at Airwave records at the same time he was doing the compilation for Motown and I got them from Bob K. Im sure I was in LA in 1981 but maybe '82. When we cut the acetates I know the first airing was at Stafford when Dave and I were dj-ing. Was Stafford going in '81? I don't remember much time lapse between getting the tapes, cutting discs and then playing them out. The tape that has been referred to is nothing to do with me or Dave other than the first side is stuff I got off Bob K. Bit pissed off that there is some inference in Tone's post that Im somewhat of a bootlegger as all we did was cut some acetates of unissued material that wasn't going to see the light of day. This was 1981 not 2007 when we're all so much clued in about non-released product. Dave and I had nothing to do with Tamtown or the LP that subsequently appeared. John has admitted that Daly City Bob somehow got hold of the material. In fact I have a recollection that there were Stevie Wonder tracks I didn't have. Never made a cent from any of it and we did cut the odd acetate for other mates/dj's and charged them cost plus a couple of pints!! Paul, you may have heard Temptations at Wigan but only if Wigan finished after Stafford started. Im sure I cut "Suspicion" for Richard and would have put Temptations on other side as that was my favourite cut. The initial batch we played at Stafford did not include "Lonely lover" and a couple of others. I asked Bob to see if he had other stuff he'd recorded and I got a second tape through the post with that, maybe "Absent minded lover". I forget now. Dave and I had jacked dj-ing in as we couldn't compete against the all-round "KingTuttedness" going on so I think we had the best cuts done for maybe Guy and I think Butch liked the Kim Weston. As for the original format that provided the source of the tapes I have no idea although I suspect they were mostly original acetates. Bob told me they sneaked stuff outta Motown to record. Whether Tom,who was always in need of spare cash, sneaked them back again....!! I guess Daly City Bob could have ended up with them but there was another dealer in LA whose name I forget who did have Motown acetates to sell just after this time. Maybe Roger something? My suspicion is that Tom sold to him rather than return to vaults. ROD

Venture A Guess
No, if they'd spelt it Herbert it would be pronounced Er-Bert which is nothing like Si-lent Glo. I reckon I was the closest with my guess as Uniques is an anagram of Silent Glo if it had 2 more letters and different ones obviously. What do I win? ROD

Marvin Gaye Love Starved Heart Of Mine
1970's!!!!!Well Tone that's news to me!!! Do you mean mid-80's and 1986. As far as I am aware this track and the others Tone mentions were rejects from the first "From the Vaults.." '79 compilation. A mate in LA assisted on it with Tom de Pierrio and he'd taped a lot of the tracks for reference. I was over there in'81 in his flat when he put the tape on and "Forever in my heart" ["Come on back to me baby"] boomed out. Got a copy of the tape and brought it back to UK where Dave Withers and I had acetates cut and played them first at Stafford. As for this "speeding" up of tracks I can only assume that whatever my mate used to record the tracks or whatever he recorded them from was somehow faulty and that's how they came out. Sounded fine to me as I had nothing to compare them to. Marvin we did cover as JJ Barnes "It's killing me". ROD

You've felt that attraction too then!!! I think you'll find feedback was left on 27th October, the day I received the 45 after a long delay which unfortunately I cannot blame on you as you posted it on 10th. I look forward to your dissertation on the Promised Land 45. ROD

Tony Middleton - Paris Blues - Rare Us Promo P/s
That's a very well researched and informative answer. Why didn't he make it up like the rest of us? I think he should be thrown off the site. What about Promised Land then, eh?...........come on!!!! ROD

Tony Middleton - Paris Blues - Rare Us Promo P/s
The only couple of soul things I remember being around on the bona-fide Eric were re-issues of "Michael" CODs and "Hey girl" Freddie Scott which of course aren't Amy/Mala/Bell [unless distributed which I don't think they were]. Guess someone just used label design for later bootlegs but if John does know owt perhaps he could also shed some light on Promised Land " Cheyanne" release which was hugely popular at one time and yet only on Eric as far as I know. Expert Opinion Required On This Please
As an expert in the field of wave mechanics I'ver listened to this track whilst adjusting my huge tweeters and have come to the conclusion that it's 70's which explains what's basically wrong with it. Apart from that the drag I detect could be due to being off-centre. My invoice is in the post. ROD

Going Rate Please?
Can't remember it being booted unless on Out of the Past which rings a faint bell. It was popular around 72/73 but always pretty common. I'd say hard to get £20 for it. Mischief from your description it sounds an orig. Label is pink with "Pepper" in white. Shortcuts is #434 so I assume yours will be a three figure release #. Y thing is black and white and Christ knows what it's supposed to be. A vampire?. Maybe microphone? Gotta be something to do with pepper I suppose. Some kinda seed? Pretty worthless over past 30 odd years so just cos it was free doesn't mean it was a boot. ROD

Just Another Fool
Yes Epic a touch OTT with overtones of Captain Oates but setting himself up nicely for the prodigal son scenario at a later date. I think we have enough prima donnas on the soul scene as it is and Im sure Phil recognises the sin of pridefulness. Looks to me like he's now missing a big opportunity to represent his faith on here by the simple means of contributing his thoughts within a virtual community whereby his beliefs are the bedrock on which his interactions with other members are based. IMO we have right now a hell of a lot of money-changers in the Temple of Northern Soul and a bit of plain Christian speaking would be rather refreshing. ROD

Guilty - Symphonics (curtom)
Well because I've been looking for 45s for years that are cheap such as a Minty copy of 4 Tops "Baby I need your loving" on USA Motown. eventually got a WDJ for £15 about 3 weeks ago. I'd put this 45 in "Wants" on here at least twice and had no luck. I figured £10-15 for a copy so if I saw it for £80 I'd assume that was OTT. So price is nothing to do with how available that particular 45 is. Similarly I thought Symphonics was an OK 45 but a bit messy and with inflation £20-30, so £50 seemed OTT IMO. You may as well ask Mick why he listed it at £20 Buy-it-now. Both of us are just as experienced in selling 45s as Andy and yet Mick was happy to sell it at £20 and I thought that was about right. With hindsight Andy was correct in obtaining a good price as a seller which is why I have a pushbike and he has a Mazarati for use when his main car is having the chauffeur cleaned. ROD
