  1. It is actually Bernard Du Pree 'You are going to miss me' on Granger records. (£300+) The 'Cletus Marland' copies were made to satisfy a different market for the flipside. (£20)
  2. AWESOME! Mine is on red vinyl copy too...seem to recall initial orders arrived instore like this. Would be interested to learn why the speeds varied per side, considering the number of tracks/running time.
  3. I've seen other releases on the label with a light-blue label, thus there is a chance the white ones are demos...with no mention of them being a demo...no need for a second run being required when the flood of orders for stock came through at the time...which they obviously didn't!

For anorak reference: Besides the one below, there were also a few other 45's and a greatest hits LP issued over here.
  5. Not too many Japanese copies to be found, mind!
  6. I've been revisiting this ever-green classic recently...superb track...thunderous...reactivate now!
  7. Hang on a minute...quickly goes and checks...yep I played it at that venue too back in June 2003!

Think Pete bought it from Greg. This copy had the clearance sound reproduction of all the copies I've ever heard, but it was still a tad Lo-Fi. Think they're all like that, Dave.
  9. That was me...got lotsa interest the times I played it too. Oddly enough I played it at a collector's doo in Tokyo the other week...led to a few chins being scratched. Love the flipside slowie too.
  10. Off on a tangent: The Tangenttes on Ran is also a Ron Nichols related piece (same address too?) and rumbles away in a bass-heavy fashion similar to the Constellations Violet 45...any idea who these ladies were/became?

In my experience the quality isn't that good at all...the sound is usually Lo-Fi and the sleeves are very thin with poor quality print. There seems to be little demand for these presses of Soul stuff (let alone early Platters!), and the price quoted is totally outrageous. It probably wouldn't sell with a buy it now option of £10...imo.

The scan via the link is not a Japanese press, but it is bonafide. The chances are it is actually Taiwanese (Chinese writing), as I've got/had others just like that too. In fact, most of the Soul output from those terrotories at that point was on red/orange vinyl.
  13. Never heard of it existing, but if it does you can rest assured I'd track it down! I have found two US copies over here, mind The one on my site is now SOLD
  14. Hi Pete, One on my site for £75. Condition of vinyl/sleeve/labels is fine. >>> LP Sale <<< A fair price methinks
  15. No wah-wahs, but this may hit the spot: Explosive Dynamiks - Whole lotta loving - Lemco
  16. The first copy offerred I'm aware of was via 'Discoveries' magazine in the early 90's. It was indeed cracked and went to the very same French gentlemen. Pretty typical dreamy-poppy-Motown-mid-tempo with a fine pedigree, but if it wasn't rare it wouldn't fall into Motown collector's Top 50 lists...imo.

Same here...and what a great powerhouse rumbler of a track it is too! Shame about her vocal being down in the mix, mind!

Yes, they often issued them in batches, which of course in turn creates problems with the finate dating of release versus recording dates. Let us also not forget that Columbia could provide a mastering service as well as pressing 'em up, so different deadwax markings are easily possible!
  19. So, what price on this one now?

    Ahem...
  21. A typical fault with many Soul compilations, when the person putting them together doesn't know the genre. However, in this case, yes it is a surprise.

Better make that four. The above one is also around with an obvious misspelling of the label name...can't recall but think it states, 'Zoiac' instead of 'Zodiac'.

    Mmmm...nice.
  24. I recall it as 'Gwen Owens & the Vel-Girls' (Velgos?) The bass always used to distort as he hammered it up to the red!
