The wgumcd side must have been a studio version recorded separately The b side has different production credits (Moses Dillard) if they were both recorded live at the same time they would have the same production wouldn’t they

I agree same take for lp and 45 but 2 totally different mixes with 45 having louder bass , drumming is louder. it is a great tune IMO Has it ever had plays on NS scene ? certainly has all the right elements IMO I can’t remember ever hearing it out when I used to be out and about in the 80s n 90s

Yellow 45 has a rawer production , organ and drums are louder , just much better all round IMO

I wonder if he will swap it for some quality unknown records 😂

Jeffery Allen is a fabulous record IMO much rarer than the price achieved suggests IMO Bargain Great Stafford era Sound

Oh , I just noticed the LP version of the Soul Inc is also completely different take to the Soul Inc 45 version the 45 version is much better than the lp version Anyone else notice ?

I must say in my view the Soul Inc 45 absolutely beats the charms unlimited version into the ground soul inc is raw , fierce and powerful with a great arrangement the other version doesn’t do it for me Just my preference

So the dottys 45 has 2 pressing runs I presume they were trying to push “I need you” I wonder how 2 completely different takes of the b side ended up being released I thought I would post this as there is nothing online referencing these different takes

This record is a top rare rnb Detroit session firstly, I was after this for years but after getting a copy, it has now been made clear to me that there are two takes two different mixes, but completely different vocal takes two different label styles with two different takes both top tunes the dottys label without the dots gives up a straight rnb version with guitar up front the dottys label with the dots gives up a more soulful version with different vocals and less guitar I have looked over this 45 Both these 45s are original Detroit 45s only 5 of each versions ever sold on discogs in 20 years so its a tune ! the first version is a straightforward rnb take with rnb guitar high in the mix the second take is different, its more laid back, without the rnb guitar and very soulful with different vocals Callum has and plays the tune I love this tune Its Edwin starrs family

The flip is a great northern style instrumental thats why I bought it then flipped it over and WOW , love it, just class imo Great double sider

for example he dropped this in his set at Leeds I had no idea what it was but it sounded so good loud Never heard anything about this record since I did obviously secure my copy and have enjoyed listening to it but this is why I went out in the 80s and 90s to hear people with great taste play great records that I didn’t know fair play to Guy he hasn’t changed one bit maybe the appetite on the soul scene for new things generally has changed? let’s be honest if he had played this record at Stafford it would be fetching hundreds of pounds by now and it would be a tune that everyone would know

Another nice track off that lp which is soulful i bought my copy from Craig Moerer probably 20 years ago it’s a great lp , one of those lps you can play right through both sides without picking up the stylus Look forward

Is this the tune you meant? 😂,probably a bit to funky and Latin for most on this site the lp as far as I can see was Harvey Avernes last lp Really good lp

Great boogaloo madness on a soul classic really hard to get on a 45 Released on the live it up lp but 2 releases if this lp One on musicor which has this single version on it and one on atol which has a different version with no vocals on it definitely a great dancer that has been forgotten since the 80s mod times

Another super soulful thing that is really rare on 45 the original lp is also a difficult thing to find but this 45 is included on it Just a great soulful boogaloo needs playing

I saw Guy djing in Leeds a few years ago at Rich Buckleys night his set was fantastic, full of fantastic under the radar tunes he has his own way of doing it and his great taste in music is what comes over he just does his own thing doesn't he. is he still out and about playing records? He had not changed a bit since the 80s whatsoever great obscure things being played by someone with great taste

Yes boogaloo had a really short lifespan in the USA didn’t it , probably no more than 3 years from Joe cubas bang bang million seller? then things moved on to salsa Latin seemed to have zero influence in the uk at the time I have all the uk fania los George Guzman introducing Joe bataan riot Ralph Robles taking over ray barretto acid I have a uk mercury release of Louie Ramirez taste of Spanish Harlem which I stumbled on, I didn’t even know it was released in the uk so Pete terrace on pye and hector rivera on polydor ray baretto x2 on Columbia and one on London A couple of releases by Mongo Santamaria on direction and cbs the Joe Cuba on pye as you mentioned I can’t think of any other Latin uk releases That’s a small footprint of uk releases inst it
