Burst Bubble Or Return To Sanity
Maybe we should put together a data sheet with the most current "sellers". Say some 50 records and track them on a quarterly basis to see their price progress. bet you'd be surprised. BTW in the early eighties you COULD pick up a Hit & Run for a tenner my mate did from a dealer in Herts. On a personal note I'm pleased those 70T's re-issues are selling for sensible money, they're great for 'returnees'. Wonder what will happen when the silent majority of NS fans near their sixties and have to decide on raising cash or hanging on to vinyl. There may be brave words now, not sure the missus will wanna that though................................ Chris L

Burst Bubble Or Return To Sanity
Having sold most of my records early last year, I returned to see how prices are now compared to then. When I view both sellers lists and Ebay I come up with the conclusion that there is a definite softening of the market. Most re-issues that went to for the £20 mark 12/18 months ago struggle to make a fiver, that's good news for the poor folk. Also some mid-priced records (Invitations on Stateside, etc) don't reach those dizzy heights of a year ago. Shifty had a Shawn Robinson, mint for £150, I've sold them for £250+ in the past (BTW she dated that black bloke who was in Ironsides - the one that pushed him around in his wheelchair). Doris Troy on Cameo Parkway, £80 !! seen them go for £160 in the past. Hit & Run coming your way soon for thirty quid??..............don't rule it out. Chris L

You might well be right, thing is, I was never "myself" when I was at the Torch. The music got me so high I wouldn't notice anything. I have somewhere a photo taken about '73/74-ish with Mick Smith & Ian Levine plus a few girls. Mick Smith loks like a Mexican cattlerustler with his drooping moustache and Ian looks like Elvis Preseley, I swear they do. I'll see if I can learn to post 'em. Chris L- Northern Uniform .... Button Down's ?
Winnie Well in fact it came from.............better sit down this is extremey dramatic dramatic. ..............The Ivy Shop in Compass road, Richmond. This was THE place to shop, they bought boxes full of US clothes in, the Bowling Shirt orginated from there. This place was so cool you came out with icicles stuck between your teeth. Er.............answer the question ? Can't be sure, an Ivy Shop it was, a BS I doubt, we'd gotten past BS's by then. Chris L- Northern Uniform .... Button Down's ?
I started my NS life late '71, as a Londoner going up Norf I was struck how scruffy and fashionless they were. Take a look at that Torch CD with Alan Day and Martyn Ellis, tank tops and bare bellies. I never saw a Harrington clad lad when I went to a NS venue, until now that is. Funny enough I wear button down collars, a sort of Sta-Prest trousers and plain caps to the office (US company, very conservative). Chris L- E-bay E-mail
I get these for Ebay & Paypal, I never reply, always send them to their respective complaints dept. Chris L- Top Prices Or What?
I guess there's only about 10 people anywhere paying this kind of money for records. Needs their heads examined, no piece of vinyl (deffo not styrene) is worth that. Stay the the music I say. Chris L- Dells - Thinking 'bout You
Has to be "Run for cover" for a stomper, quite like "Oh what a day" for mid tempo-ish thingy. Chris L- Do They Dance Different In The Us?
You ask a good question, you'll probably get lots of different answers. The "real" Northern Soul scene started about end 1968 beginning 1969. This is when there evolved a conscious effort to find the Motown sounda-likes. By that time the Mods had long disappeared and Skinheads had grown their hair somewhat longer. I seem to remember being called "smoothies". Mods were into the Kinks, the Small Faces, etc. as well as soul music. Skinheads were predominantly blue-beat & rock steady although soul music featured strongly outside of the London area. In fact the Northern youth only had 2 choices, standard pop or soul music to listen to. It's still weird for me to see young(er) people dressing up like what we done yonks ago, although I'm so glad they like the music. Talking of the youth and dancing there a young bloke at Stoke Saturday, guess about early 20T's, tall lad, top dancer. Real Northern Soul like, his very tasty looking girlfriend had yet to "get it" (the dance that is...hhmmm) But she was so good looking..............who cares ? Chris L- Do They Dance Different In The Us?
That's a shame, I though it was a message on that lasses skirt bragging about what she did :-( Chris L- Do They Dance Different In The Us?
Crikey!!..... I think I've seen that picture on a porn site !!! The bloke with his tongue hanging out has his thumb in the back pocket of the bolnde girl !!! Just what will he do next ??? Chris L- Your All Time Top Five
An almost impossible task trying to choose just 5 sounds. I guess it must be these. Christine Cooper - Heartaches away my boy. I just can't seem to get tired of this, I fell in love with this (and her) around my 3rd or 4th visit to the Highland Room circa '72. Hard to believe it didn't hit the charts and surprisingly done by those Kasenatz Katz guys !!! Help me - The Spellbinders. Loved this since my youth club days. What can one say, Ken Williams & Van McCoy behind it doesn't get much better for me. What a voice that Bobby Shivers has (he once sang to me in a hotel lift !!!) Heaven Must have sent you - Elgins. The record that started it all for me when I was a young lad ( I've always been a big kid). Oozes Motown polish. Hurt on the other side - Jerry Cook. Has for me everything a soul record should have, great voice, lyrics, backing track, unknown singer and legendary arranger............... sigh................ Bobby Reed - I'll find a way. Very much a "cry your eyes out" choon, bought this for 2/6d in some London junk shop l..o..n..g....l..o..n..g...time again, still gets me there every time. It's Van McCoy, what can yer say ? Suppose there's about another 100 I could add. But if I was stranded on an industrial estate down on the Belgian/German border this is what I'd smaggle past the guards. Love & peace Chris L- Vinyl Reversal
Well, the US is so vast if you live in Mansfield, Ohio you would have to pay serious money to get around to find stuff. Why pay a dollar a gallon to get to Cleveland or Detroit when you can pick up something via your PC in the comfort of your own couch. I've been selling to US customers for about 6 years. To be honest I never thought about asking them ??- David Flynn - Alive And Kicking ?
Does David Flynn sill hang in the rare soul scene ? Haven't seen or heard from him in a couple of years ? Heard he may be living in that splendid soul lovers land, Japan........... Answers on a postcard please............... Chris L ps Hi there Stifado.............- Worst Record Ever
Has to be "Try my love" Troy Dodds, I just don't get this song. I'm convinced it was recorded on a wet rainy monday morning in some funeral parlour in Preoria, Michigan. Chris L Whoops!! yes I understand your shock state, Preoria is of course in Illinois................Chris L- Worst Record Ever
