  1. After first hearing Bob Jones play the only way is up on his radio show in the mid 80's, little did I know how much pleasure his music would give me over the following years. Don't think there's a record I don't like of his, with his Hi period being my favourite. Saying that his live version of Love Don't Love Nobody takes some beating, 8 mins of soul heaven.
  2. Someone else who rates this... I thought I was the only one.
  3. 1. Memphis 2. Kent on the CD: NYC-TCB 3. David Jordan 4. Newcastle When are you available for me to pick the keys up....
  4. Came out on Black Beauty first - found that a tough one to get hold of. Only ever played Gypsy onece. not realy for me
  5. A good way to say a soulful goodbye to Arista, me thinks.

    A scan
  7. I thought G C Camerons No Need To Explain/Out Of My Mind was one of the best double sider's of the early 90's, irrespective of who was involved.
  8. I have accepted that downloads seem to be the format of choice for new releases, but I personally still like holding a physical product. If I like a track, I do search if a CD exists and prefer to buy that, unless the price prohibitively high and I can't justify the cost I'll pay for the download. I also have a mental block at buying reissue vinyl when there's an original out there, even though it may be completely unavailable to me. I'm happy to have it on a CD in the interim, with the (foolish) expectation I may get the original one day. One of the things that does seal CD purchases for me as people have mentioned, are the CD booklets and unreleased tracks stuff. The supplementary liner notes provided by companies such as Kent and Rhino add to the whole experience and as long as they provide quality documentation I'll still keep buying their CD's.
  9. There was an article written about it in Voices from the Shadows which I think was written by Arthur Fenn. I'll see if I can dig it out and attach a scan
  10. By the way its by Banny Price and is on Jewel. It's chased by Deep collectors as its got "There Goes The Girl" on the other side , but luckily its much cheaper than his other release.
  11. I do like those picture sleeves you keep popping up with. Almost makes me want to start collecting Japanese releases....... But that'll put me into another spiralling world I'd never get free from. I have enough trouble collecting US releases, let alone another countries pressing. But, the do look good.

Yep, it does deserve to be put in the trash, but don't have the heart to do it. Never played it and never will. Looks M- though anyones for £50.......

Mines Lena Zavaroni - Ma He's Making Eyes At Me on Stax. It was shortly after purchasing this, that I decided that I no longer wanted to be a label completest and concentrated on records I liked rather than completing label runs, not that there's anything wrong with complete sets. The smaller label sets I've got look rather spiffing.
  14. I'm now working for a German organisation based in Frankfurt, so I'm going to have a few trips over there.  I've looked in the events section to see if there were any regular soul nights, but couldn't see any obvious ones (maybe not looking properly) as I'd like to arrange some trips to coincide with them. regards, John
  15. Another member who will remain anonymous, phoned me and told me what Dave was selling them for and that they'd just bought one. The only reason I didn't buy one was due to me already being over my monthly spending budget, so that's why I know he was selling them for £60
  16. Dave Thorley had a few a while back and was selling them for £60 each (I think)
  17. I love em both, with or without the girls its still a cracking piece of soul.
  18. You might get it a bit quicker if you listed the other side too - I Need Your Lovin'
  19. I read somewhere that David & Ruben on WB was released a few years after the Linda/Rampart copies (maybe 69/70) and that due to the change in musical taste the horns on the introduction made the song sound too dated, so they dropped them for this release. Been trying to find where a read this, but can't find it anywhere.
  20. Is this the same James Carmichael that arranged/produced some Mirwood stuff as all the tracks on the new Kent Mirwood EP are arranged by him?
  21. His work was second to none and without it New Orleans music, and actually IMO southern soul in general, would have been a duller place. When looking through many records, seeing his name on a label was always a pointer as to something that could be of interest. As the years go on, sadly this type of news will be more common place.
  22. For me it was Curtis Mayfield in London in the late 80's. Think it was just him, a base player, drums and percussion, a magical night for me. After that it’s gotta be the Waylo review at the T&C, so many of my Soul hero’s on stage in one night. In hindsight I think the crowd was a bit too mean (me included) to Marty Pello, considering he was invited by Willie Mitchell, so I’ve been told.
  23. I've generally paid about a fiver more for a double compared to single CD, so there is a cost saving there for the buyer there. But saying that I do like buying anthology CD's which showcases an artist or a lables entire output, with both Rhino and Kent benefitting from my patronage over the years.
  24. Ady, I'd buy it, especially if it had unreleased stuff and it would tide me over until I eventually get a copy of Lets Get Together. What about a "complete" double CD package?
