I don't think this ones rare as I picked one up last month off of a chicago dealer on Gemm for about £20. I thought it may have been the 12" version (DT103) of "On My Way Up/You Tuned Me On", but it didn't have "You Turned Me On" on the other side as on the 7" (DT104). I've never been that lucky, when it comes to finding rare tunes at knock down prices, but then again it is on Paul Phillips web site, so maybe for once I have been lucky. The J's - When did you stop - Dore. I saw a few on Gemm for about £30. I enquired on here about the difference between the 7" and the 12" (I didn't want a five minute instrumental bit in the middle) as John Manship has the 7" for £100. Once I got some reply posts, they were gone before I could buy. Maybe I should have bought first and asked second. I was also told many years ago that the real 12" version of Jay Player was rarer (fewer around) than the 7", but less in demand, so cheaper in price, which is a shame because the 7" cuts off the middle break which I think is great. The Savannah release of These arms of mine/Respect also came out on "Mighty" which to my knowledge is the only release on the label (so I'm assuming that this may have come first). Which compaires to the vast output of 2 releases on Savannah international. I'm still after his Future Stars release of: I can't see myself/Left Over love, if any one's got one? John

I've got some info on 103, as it's just come in the post and I'm quite disapointed, maybe I should have been more vigilant. Its a shame it has arrived after copies on web sites have gone or I would have bought them. :fool: 103 is a 12" of the Magnificents - On My Way Up. I was assuming that 7"s and 12"s of the same record may have had a sequential numbering system. I like this record anyway and was assuming that You Turn Me On was on the other side - big mistake and if I paid money for it I would have been sick as a dog. The lable has DT-103A on both sides, but the dead wax has DT-103A and DT-103B on each side. Side A is the 45 RPM Version A and is 3:50 in length Side B is the Album Version Vocal and is 6:30 in length Here is a lable scan, seem like I should have kept with the 7" as I want both sides. I think a fair price is the mid of the popsike quotes. I'll take £400 in cash or swaps. I'm interested in X-over, 70's, 80's (mainly independants), deep. As with everyone, I'm looking for things that have been played post blackpool weekenders as I picked up this sort of stuff then or before. I've been out of buying since 91. Apart from "a boy names sue", I think Jonny Cash sung deep from his soul, does that make it soul? I dont know, but I do know that I would rather listen to him than some of the "soul" artists today (even though there are some very good new soul artists around at present). Tom Jones is another one, who I think is up there. On a slightly different vein I thought the Blow Monkeys in the 80's produced some of the most soul orientated pop records ever. If Curtis Mayfield chose to record with them, who am I to question if they were soulful or not.

With the Al & The Kid 12" going for about £400 and the Finil Vynil 7" going for £700 (as I've seen on here and on lists), this must be one of the rare ocasions where the re-issue goes for more than the orginal. Is this the 7" phenomina taking over. The other occations I can think off the top of my head asthe Kent singles which were orignally released on CD and released later on single rather than a single released from an album Can anyone think of any more? John

I don't get out much these days and the 80's special was good and my first do in over 10 years (the penance for having three kids and a wife who thinks its strange that men sing to each other, when a great tune is on). I loved the one just before xmas too. Although working down the road, does make it a long night beer wise and I'm not a spring chicken any more. It's a shame the next one is a couple of days before Monumental as I can only get a pass for one. At least I'm (hopefully) going to Essence, as long as Brad has reserved some passes and someone needs to hecle Mr Biggerstaff when he plays his deep set. So this may be the start of me supporting do's again. To my knowledge none of the tunes that I posted up are rare and Soul Bowl probaly still have them floating around somewhere. But I have to say if it wasnt for Bob Jones, these would probably still be unknowns to me.

How come the French are bidding things up?

I don't have any issues with CD's (although I still don't give them the same reverance as records) and have been grandually building up a missing 15 years of 90's/Y2k tunes, thanks to Dodger (eternally grateful, mate). But, I miss the demise of the 7"/12" (or even CD) single, (although there seems to be a revival with Grapevine, Soul Junction, etc. issues). You hear a great track and find out the rest of the CD is rubbish, and I then think about the cost of it and then wonder whether I should have bought it or should I buy it. Then again the same thing applys to LP's but I don't seem to get so blue if the rest of the LP is rubbish. I think I'm still going through a record/CD transition period. What will it be like when CD's eventually disappear and replaced with downloads?
