  1. Bring the level of those LP tracks up to scratch by recording them to MP3 and playing it from a CD-R, that should be sufficiently politically incorrect!! LOL
  2. Now then Jock, there's a thought, 20th Anniversary, bit spesh and all that.............William Bell in the main room on Staurday night, and Wilbe label mate Jeff Floyd in the other room Friday night..............now THAT'S special. How's your budget Ady........and/or your rapore with William LOL? Cheers, Mark R
  3. And fair play to you mate! In this instance it's a good thing because it makes them available WITHOUT having to go out of your way to get one from a shop on the day if there's not one halway convenient for you. Of course, I realise that some could say that this defeats the whole idea of RSD!! Nothing's ever black and white though is it..............except balck and white perhaps!! Hope you're well BTW Professor Plumb? Cheers, Mark R
  4. Interesting to see some of these comments, which I've only just caught up with, but have had similar thoughts myself. Yep, buy 2, sell one for an inflated price while some poor bugger missed out on RSD, and probably AFTER paying a bus or train fare/petrol to get there to support the shop/day. Money, a disease ain't it? Shame when peoples hobbies become a money making excercise...........isn't it nice to get away from the money making aspect of the everyday rat-race when it's something you enjoy. Of course, it's not just confined to RSD and new releases.........you could be looking for a 7" on eBay which you would love to own and cherish, and some part-time wheeler and dealer snags it and it's then on a list for a higher price! I'm not that naive that I think this would ever be any different, and I wouldn't say that I've NEVER done something like it myself, because I have. Not very often though, as I don't go out of my way to do so for the reasons outlined above. As a collector, I know how it feels! Cheers, Mark R
  5. Gregory Porter - 1960 What? (Opolopo Kick & Bass Rerub) - Expansion 12" Pressed for record store day, this will however also be available via the Simply Soul stall/mail order, but as it will be limited and most will go to shops, it might be wise not to rely on getting one too much further down the line!! Cheers, Mark R
  6. Hi everyone, After lots of consideration, I've finally decided to take a break from radio. It's not a decision I've taken lightly but it is one that has been looming for a little while now. Accumulation of various factors have lead to this, which I won't bore you with, but I would just like to thank everyone for listening over the last 5 years or so to my monthly instalments on Starpoint, and thank Carl for the opportunity and the support throughout that period. Also thanks to followers of the podcasts. I haven't decided what to do about the podcast site yet, my inclination is to keep it going and maybe put some older shows up from before the days of the podcast. Also I may pop up here and there with the odd one off show for Starpoint, though I haven't discussed this with the station yet. Thanks of course to the artists who provide us with all this wonderful music: without them there would be no us and we should always remember that. Specific thanks to those that have sent music for consideration for the show. I would encourage that to continue as I'll still be doing the record reviews and various gigs, so if an artist you feel it's worthwhile then carry on feeding me!! So, with a touch of sadness I say farewell to the radio, but would like to think it really is only farewell and not goodbye forever. Who knows, one day I might come back bigger and better with a more regular show, when life affords me the time to do so in a dedicated manner. I have to sign off by saying that, whatever its popularity and following, I have always been immensely proud of the ethos of The Music Box in playing new music across the whole spectrum of soul, soulful dance, deep house, southern soul etc, etc. Not everyone's cup of tea trying to cover all that in the same two hours I know, but it reflects ME and my wide taste, and this has always been important to me as it's specialist internet radio, not national radio where I'm trying to taylor the music to max out the listenership. Unlike when I first started the show, there are now numerous shows on numerous stations to cater for our needs, so you won't miss me too much. There still aren't that many though, which cover such a musical spectrum as The Music Box did. Ciao, Mark R
  7. Read the bools folks......seriously fascinating stuff for people like us! Cheers, Mark R
  8. If you didn't expect too much, then it was fine. I think on these forums we always feel sold short by such documentaries, but we're in a minority as we know a bit about it. For me, these things are about the rare footage......if you want to get the right story you need to read the books.....Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, Love Saves The Day etc, etc Would have liked more reference to the DJ's/remixers etc, but nice to see Mancuso and Siano included at least......maybe simply because they are still alive to interview?? Cheers, Mark R
  9. For those whose appetite and interest for our old friend Vince "Audio" Broomfield was rekindled by the release of his "New Beginnings" LP collection of cuts from the vault last year should DEFINITELY check out the forthcoming NEW RECORDING "Won't Somebody" due for release on Soul Junction, date TBC. A mid-tempo modern soul dance delight with the trademark Audio sax break........this is quality!! Well done Soul Junction! Cheers, Mark R
  10. Guys, Just a quick heads-up that there will be no new "Music Box" tonight as I have some family business to attend to. Starpoint are going to re-run an old show.......possibly the Vick Lavender (Chicago) interview from last summer. If you didn't ever catch that, then it really is interesting to hear what Vick had to say.........and Colin Curtis & Dr Bob Jones "on the wire" too. Cheers, Mark R
  11. Just a quick heads up if you are a follower of my podcasts, please note that before I can put my next podcast up I need to make some space. As a result I will be deleting some of the current ones over the next week. Follow this link to review and catch up with any you want before they go!! Thanks and enjoy https://starpointsoulboy.podomatic.com/ Cheers, Mark R

  13. Oh dear, I was only listening to "Quicksand" last night, on the back of the Stafford group on Facebook. Really sad to hear this, but to be positive, some of these guys left an impression that they are not really aware of, and probably dreamed about all those years ago. Clearly Kell was made aware, which is really nice I think. R.I.P. Kell Osbourne Mark R

  17. Just an early heads up geezers and geezerettes that the first show of 2012 is this Friday 27th January, and sees me take a personal lookback at some favourite tuneage from 2011. Usual time and place............7-9pm UK time www.starpointradio.com Cheers, Mark R
  18. Mate of mine at the football (ex-Casino goer) was telling me yesterday he's on the trail of the full series of red/white demo's! Cheers, Mark R
  19. Hi Ali.....we're old stagers at this noe aren't we? LOL For me it's all about Claussell, and a guy from Chicago who hasn't done the gig before............Anthony Nicholson....... Bring it on....... Cheers, Mark R
  20. Hi Jerry, Was "Joyful Noise" 2011? Unlike me to miss Michelle/Dawn! Can't say I recognise it from 2011. As for Nicole/Al "Music Is Life", there's a sort of a reason for that omission. I tend to stay away from tunes that are re-works of/sample old tunes, in an attempt to keep it reasonably original. Now before anyone picks me up on this by pointing out such tracks that ARE on my lists, it's not a hard and fast rule, but I do try to avoid them unless they've totally blown me away........it's not an exact science though, and I'm not the worlds expert on samples etc, so some pass my by. For that reason though, Nicole/Al "Music Is Life", which is based around BeBe & CeCe Winans "Heaven" from their 1988 LP of the same name on Capitol, misses out..............Nicole does get the nod though with another track from her album ;-) Cheers, Mark R
  21. Hi Bob, Yes mate, physical product is still a preference for me, if available on a title. If it's a one tracker (album) I might just grab the download, unless it's a real killer/of significance, in which case I grab a CD. I also get caught out by "download only" stuff that I've bagged ending up getting a physical release.........again if I feel it's significant to me I buy the physical too, meaning on a few occasions I buy it twice. Seems crazy I know, but of all the folks that might understand this, I think this is the place to find them (collectors). Knowing Dave G, I would hazard a guess that a fair proportion of his selections are physical purchases too, but he's not as anal as me in documenting them! LOL Only he can confirm that though. How does the music get out there..........hmm......where to start. EMS/Facebook/radio shows/diggers/Youtube.....gigs obviously etc, etc............not an easy question to answer in these days of the cyber-highway!! A bit of everything really. I'm not sure I understand your last point about "good music, but don't know what to do with it"...............am I being dense? Do you mean you don't know where to promote/push that good music? Cheers, Mark R
  22. Good stuff Dave! You've inspired me to post my 2011 fave's up at SS Dave. Don't want to put it here as it's not Audio, so have posted in Look At Your Box with a link to this thread. Thread link for my post.............. Cheers, Mark R
