Agree with the selections from "You Make It Easy", but don't overlook "When You Love Somebody" from his first, and by far best album, "Make Time For Love".............highly regarded album in modern circles! Cheers, Mark R
  2. Technology permitting, my next Starpoint show goes out this Friday, 23rd February, between 9-11pm @ www.starpointradio.com. This will be my first look in 2007 at some of the new releases from late 2006/early 2007, following last months 2006 review show.............expect new material from Gerald Levert, Stan Mosley, Jill Scott, Melvin Williams, N'Dambi etc!!! Cheers, Mark R
  3. Brilliant Pete..............just goes to show that the likes of RS have always liked SOUL music, and just continued to play new releases from when first getting involved early 70's.............he continues to this day, which is great........a true soul man!! Only thing that slightly puzzles me is his disregard in recent years for the soulful end of dance music (yet he WAS/IS big into, say, Rockmelons "Love's Gonna Bring You Home" from the early 90's and I struggled to see the distinction?????). Still, it's a personal choice. Anyway, back on topic.............it's great hearing those tunes first played under their pseudonyms......."Top Cat", "James Mack & Chicago Gangsters" etc..................and just how good are things like Paris and The Imaginations........feck me!! Thanks, Mark R
  4. Oh, come on Pete............is there no way you can do this without adding it to your website??? Just dug out the Omni and gave it a spin..............then Rumple-stilt-skin "I Think I Want To Dance With You".......one for Simon M that..............you'd really hate that Pete Cheers, Mark R
  5. The very same, Marky boy!! Cheers, Mark R
  6. That's right Hippo.....................on the Compose label.........contains the great downtempo "Programmed For Love". I have two further CD's from the man from late 90's/early 2K......."Up All Night" and "It's Midnight".......both also very mellow affairs as I recall. Cheers, Mark R
  7. Pete................how wrong you are.................I listened in it's entirity last night, and am currently listening to the 3 before 8 again!! Despite never going to the Casino, I have been to plenty of all nighters over the last 25 years..........and therefore fully appreciate what's going on in that soundfile........spine tingling stuff!! Difference is mate, and with respect, I love SOUL music, not just NORTHERN SOUL music, and I suspect from what I read on here that's the difference between you and I. Now this might sound strong and maybe a little bit poxy, but I feel positively blessed to enjoy it all.........1965-2007.............it really has enriched my life, but I don't need to explain that to you guys do I? You all know the score. And don't let CUNNIE hear that you edited out Larry Brown's "Breaking Training" (I assume that was the Larry Brown version, despite Richard introducing it as Bits & Pieces....a C/U name I assume??)......he's big on that one I believe. And I have no doubt that you edited that cut out at the time.................and that's the sad bit really............a full 30 years in denial!! Respect to you though mate......it's only opinions.......and as I said previously, thanks for posting this so I could hear what I missed when I was 10 and still building Meccano etc!!! Cheers, Mark R
  8. Oh............I dunno Simon................on the Soul Brittania thread, folks say it's only the likes of the Beeb that try to re-write history!! Cheers, Mark R
  9. Just listening now Pete..................great stuff...............like hearing things like this. Nice one! Cheers, Mark R
  10. I too thought it was great..............particularly as it filled some gaps for me............despite being to young to have attended, I feel I know enough about the clubs in the North, but I have limited knowledge of the early London scene, so it was great for that! Have to agree about the Wheel footage..............never seen that, so that was great.............I sort of assumed it was the Whitworth St venue, forgetting that it was originally Brasenose St (am I dreaming this......it did move didn't it??) The programme in general..............well, people that truly love and feel black music tingle inside with excitement when watching such programmes..............and one thing it did confirm to me after listening to all those people who obviously know their onions.............is that us pontificating on here regarding what is soul and what is not is just a load of bullshit...............it's what YOU feel, and can't simply be described. Does give us something to talk about though I suppose! Can't wait for next week! Cheers, Mark R
