News: Four Perfections Event and New 45 Latest - 29th Nov 2014
I really enjoyed the night. Thank you to the promoters, organisers and helpers for making it a pleasurable evening. The four perfections were wonderful and such nice guys, I sincerely hope we see them perform on these shores again in the not too distant future. I am only sorry Richard Searling wasn't there and meeting the four perfections, it is my understanding RS introduced their Tune 'I'm not strong enough' to the WC audience who adopted the tune as one of theirs. It was also nice to meet Chalky and have a chat.

News: Frances Nero RIP
They played 'Keep on loving me' tonight at Preston Grasshoppers as a tribute. Frances left us with some special music and I hope events this weekend will pay tribute by playing one of her tunes.

News: Book - The History of Okeh Records: 1918 to 1970
Gary One of my daughters has just bought your book for me. Not had a chance to read it yet but it looks great. I've only read the forward and had to write. The reason I write is because I lived in Harraby, Carlisle and I had an SX200 Lambretta. Bought it in 1973, had it sprayed metalic green with yellow, two sets of florida bars, ancilotti backrest, front bumper, four mirror stems (20 mirrors) adjusted vespa bubble screen, spots and a rear carrier with a shield made by a joiner mate which I had painted blue with a hand holding a torch and Okeh written above it. There were a few of us knocking about on scooters, going to the lakes, Blackpool and even down to the the Casino when no other transport was available or money was short, although I never took mine (Too worried I might loose the tackle from it). I started collecting records in 1971, influenced greatly by the likes of Dick Watt, George Hunt and Ray Parker. I recall going to Dick's house as 14 year old and him bringing a metal box out full of Okeh records. He did me tapes...A real influence and mentor, showing me the difference between the small and large 45!!. I still have the tape with things like What's the use (Tangeers), Bring it Home (Chimes), You ask for one good reason (Williams and Watson) and loads others. I've never stopped collecting to this day. I wonder if it was my scooter you saw. I can't remember anyone else with one like mine at the time? Take care Steve

Agree...a more finished / Motownesque rendition of the original Sidney Barnes acetate take, which still stands strong itself.

News: Get On Up This Weekend in the Uk - James Brown Film
I saw it yesterday, it's O.K. though I'm a little bit disappointed. They just captured some of his life famous moments and 2 hours are much too short for resume James Brown's life. The actor is a great dancer. The best parts for me are the concerts scenes, all the music being the real thing.

I´m impressed by the trailer, really looking forward to this. LOVE James Brown, his influence on music is beyond compare. First Elaine´s brilliant movie and now this, great!! Hope there´s a European or all regions blu-ray being released...

News: Soulcast Jim Demetriou with Rob Holmes
Thanks, Mike. Was way before you had sound capability here, wasn't it? When did you start refosoul?

News: Soulcast Jim Demetriou with Rob Holmes
I have the Soulcast shows on mini disc somewhere. They were such an inspiration for many of us at the time and led to me doing the Deepfunk Radio shows (which I still have and should probably upload somewhere). This was before the days of soul-source audio, youtube, smart phones etc. I'm sure I've seen Jim out of the corner of my eye at The 100 Cub many times since his passing, dancing away. Gone but not forgotten.
