Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
the acetate on ebay came from me, indirectly. i found Stormy (one of the writers, also the guy who recorded on twinight, RIP), my friend and i went to his house. i bought an acetate of el anthony "that's what my lady says" (in my collection still, will swap for a real copy if someone wants an acetate...) and my friend got an acetate of the saxie russell. he had another friend sell it for him. Saxie Russell's real name is Vernon Taplin, he wrote a few more odd things (Luci and Tim on Gamma and at least something else) but nobody I know has been able to find him.

Defaulters - Gentle Man - Pdjs (Sweet Soul)
Defaulters featuring Charles Handcock - Gentle man / Disco Dennis - P.D.J.S. 7926 - $150 I had a buyer of this who backed out, available again. “Gentle man” is killer fragile ‘70s harmony soul, really nice cut. Most copies of this turn up trashed and this is a really long track pressed at a low volume so get this clean copy when you have a chance. Charles Handcock was the brother of Larry Handcock of S.O.U.L. and the Intertains. “Disco Dennis” is a horrible disco cut, although apparently about Dennis Kucinich which is funny. Visual surface grade: VG++ to NM, however, note label text is blurred on one side here are 300DPI scans of each side: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/2-2014/Images/defaulters-a.jpg https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/2-2014/Images/defaulters-b.jpg here are 256kbs stereo clips of each side: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/2-2014/Audio/defaulters%20-%20gentle%20man.mp3? https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/2-2014/Audio/defaulters%20-%20disco%20dennis.mp3? paypal gift only, please *EMAIL* sitpsales@gmail.com to reserve. Is This The Same Connie Mcgill Track? 'peace Of Mind'
I'm pretty sure it is the same recording. That LP is bizarre, if you listen it sounds like he just recorded all his 45s and put them out.

Lakeside Records
8/13/2006. really interesting interview, they were part of the touring revue with the pharoahs, lots of black power stuff in the interview

Spacey Male Detroit Soul
yeah also the professionals (although supposedly another steve mancha take). i was being a smartass.

Lakeside Records
i interviewed them if you want to listen, don't remember if they gave a date.
-
Spacey Male Detroit Soul
also, to get back to the question and away from misinformation, here is a good one that's dale warren but not from detroit. Best version too -- haters attack me now! I've heard there's a Detroit version though...
-
Spacey Male Detroit Soul
He also said Johnny Wyatt was lead of Johnny and the Expressions (who were from New York and lead by a guy named Johnny Matthews -- NO DETROIT CONNECTION DESPITE THE NAME), when he was really lead of Rochelle and the Candles (LA). Lots of other incorrect information on the lists. Lots of great records for sale though.

Spacey Male Detroit Soul
also, a common thread is dale warren, so most of the dramatics tracks on volt and (not detroit) but most of the mad lads tracks
-
Spacey Male Detroit Soul
I don't think the friends is detroit either. As the starter of the other thread, male vocals are generally harder and the production style goes more with the soft harmonies. But I see what you are asking. A lot of the precisions tracks fit your question:
