  1. I asked what that was in another thread recently and someone said it was a mistake and should have said shann
  2. "please don't let me down" which is also pretty good deep soul (at least good enough for me to like it being someone who usually doesn't like deep soul)
  3. I like how that pic clearly shows it's the a-side . Bobby Brinkley calls my radio show sometimes, he says that the Paramount Four back the Bobby Brinkley and the Squires record. He also wrote a pretty nice Willie Hobbs 45 on seventy seven.

sure, I have no idea what's going on with the record and if there's a different singer on each side. I was just commenting on the previous post's speculation. I have a 45 by Val Martin (aka Donnie Elbert) on All Platinum. It usually comes with the same song on both sides. I recently got a stock copy with a different b-side. The b-side they put on there is clearly not donnie elbert. It could be a similar situation here where they really meant to promo one side and threw an unrelated thing on the flip ... doesn't this record also exist with one side? this is also just speculation.
  5. The best part about "hey there lonely girl" is trying to sing along (when it comes on the radio or wherever) with the ridiculous falsetto and sounding like an ass. Especially in a public place. I never ever see "I surrender" btw, I got a beat up copy once. I don't even really see copies for sale here. Is it really that rare?

The guy's voice is much deeper in the first clip (shep grant) than the second one (shep). Still might be possible and a good guess though.
  7. I think this is one of the tracks that was on that "rarest northern soul" records webpage I found on Dave R's site the other day. A record that people thought was ultra rare but that the internet revealed was just rare rare.

doesn't don gardner sound like chuck jackson though? there are a set of singers with similar voices. Doesn't the ed townsend record on T-G-T also sound similar?

Thanks so much for the info! No I am not Bob Pruter (but I do know him). There actually is a law in Chicago that says that at least 75% of the soul music collectors need to be named Bob (at least it seems that way). Thanks again.

Hi Larry. My name is Bob, I'm in Chicago. I'm working on a book that is a discography of soul groups that cut records between like 1960 and 1990. We currently list your record but without any info. Can you supply the membership of the keymar 45 as well as what each person did. Is the group from Baltimore? Did any of the members record with any other groups? I'm sorry, I don't know enough about the northern soul scene to tell if your record ever got played in clubs but I'm sure someone here could answer that. thanks, Bob
  14. I'm pretty sure I created this same thread a while back if you search for it. One version of the label was the James Brown label, the other is the Mickey Stevenson number. I recently bought #028 on the james brown label, had never seen it before, it was actually james brown doing an awesome remake of "I feel good".
  15. the far superior side of the turn-a-rounds on minit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVAQjpUhgok
  16. great, now i learned something stupid about an 80s band that i don't care about. thanks a lot.
  17. no, we're both named bob, i think he's talking about the soul discography.
  18. ok got it
  19. so what's a "dex"?

lots of artists don't remember everything that they did in their career ... you sort of have to use judgement when listening to their story, like if they are extremely detail oriented, with dates, etc. versus trying to recall something that they hadn't thought about in 40 years. this is not a comment on the don gardner record, just a general comment that might apply. i don't remember what i ate for dinner last night.
  21. I always complain for at least two of his auctions. His stuff does get taken down by ebay often. It pisses me off the worst when he shows up in the ebay ad here as one of the most expensive items, that's when I'm most aggressive about reporting him. He used to do the zillion dollar ads all the time, now I rarely see them (he has fake cheaper ads).
  22. I definitely agree that acetates were done for different reasons (including the one you mentioned). I was just saying that sheet music makes it likely that it was a songwriter shopping a song around. The song writer could have gotten a "professional" to sing it though.
  23. yeah that is the side i play (off youtube because i don't have the vinyl ....)
  24. this is one of my big wants. i didn't mention it here because i didn't know if the funk track was a "northern classic".
