I'm back with another interview, this time with Jimmy Mayes, about his band Mill Street Depot (who cut records on Port, FM, Shout, Stang, Gerim, Depot, and several other labels). His records probably have more funk and modern interest than northern, but he has an extremely interesting story that touches many different musicians across different states. For example, he was a member of the Kansas City Playboys and the Carvettes, and Jimi Hendrix was a member of his band before becoming famous. I'm so suspicious of buying from random people in the UK (just because there's so many bootlegs floating around) that I bought a record that was not a bootleg once (moovers "someone to fulfill my needs") and sent it back because the label looks fake and there's no deep city logo, I recently found out it was real. And if I buy from a "real" dealer I end up paying 5 times what I consider a fair price. It's a lose-lose situation. It would be the same issue if I were buying doowop in the US I guess.

Derek, I think the Dontee, Pouland, and dc int'l groups are the same, so they had 4 records.

He's actually a St. Louis guy, he got started with Fontella Bass on Oliver Sain's revue.

I'm pretty sure Maurice Dollison is Cash McCall and NOT Monk Higgins.

I always really liked this track, and I even like the group funk flip (sleepwalking) a lot.

Great, this counterfeit is what I have, I got burned YET AGAIN on buying a record from the UK. I had bought your bootleg guide to avoid this, this was post-the-guide, and I STILL got burned. I hope you come out with a new edition to maybe save me from getting screwed in the future. re: the flirtations, I like that record a lot too (although not as good as the sandra phillips) and never play the "change my darkness" side. However, I just played the two records back to back and although they have a similar feel, I don't think they have the same backing track at least. I never noticed the similarity before, though, thanks for pointing it out.

I noted the deadwax above: scratched into one side: 66 BY 264-5 and on the flip scratched 66 BY 258. Nothing is machine stamped on either side. It is vinyl. It is WHITE, not SILVER, what I have is exactly what was pictured. Thanks for any info. ps. I agree with Sean about "you succeeded." I actually don't like world without sunshine, but bought it to collect since "you succeeded" is such a great record. I just hope I didn't end up with a boot.

this is EXACTLY the one I have that I'm trying to determine if it is a boot. There is nothing stamped in the dead wax, only the etchings I metioned before. I bought it from a UK seller on ebay in January. I hope I didn't get burned.

No, it's Carl Pellegrino, but his wife Candy also deals with records. So it's sort of both, but the email is mainly dealt with by Carl.

The Chicago Cash McCall's real name is Maurice Dollison. I don't think he did things in the south, as far as I know. There is a COUNTRY artist named Cash McCall also, which might be the other person you're talking about.

Global Priority was $9.50, not $8.50. you can still do air letter, though, but now it's called first class international. I did an auction on ebay and charged the $9.50 (since they had changed the parcel rate and I didn't realize that I could do air letter for a couple bucks less), I got a few angry emails from people even though I was charging cost and losing money with the paypal fees on shipping.

Just to clarify this thread, though, brooklyn-born and grouprecords ARE one and the same, and they're both Joe G., who is, however, a different person than Rich R.

the seller is Joe Giattino, he's not Rich Rosen, although they deal with each other.

I'm still trying to find out info on them, they're one of the groups I still don't know about. I'm pretty sure they are Chicago, though. One thing that's interesting about that record, though, if you notice, there are shared backing tracks between that, buck on playboy / supreme, and el anthony on lacindy.

sorry, didn't realize you were making a joke. If you asked me about cities in the UK, I'd probably say that they were all the same too . Either way, that's a good 45, surprised no one has bought it yet.
