It's hard to grade the styrene on this title but "Honey" looks clean, at least VG+, I can't really see anything wrong. "I can't stop loving you" has some sort of whitening of the grooves (visible in the scan). It's unplayable -- it plays through but with distortion. It's not styrene burn but it's effectively the same and I don't think you could clean it (maybe if you are some sort of genius materials science engineer or something). it doesn't sound like a different take at all. Just a different mix. The vocal take is definitely identical. The baritone sax hits at exactly the same spot at the start of both versions. It's just mixed louder in one. I can line both of the recordings up in a multitrack editor if you want to compare.

one more thing to add to clearvinyl's post above. if you're not sure about your turntable setup at home, and it might be mistracking, ellipticals will tear up your records when mistracking. so probably you should be sure about your turntable setup and calibration before using ellipticals. but when set up and calibrated correctly, ellipticals will reveal more detail in the sound.

The first record is by a New Jersey group. They are not the same group. Detroit is far away from New Jersey. "The Superlatives" is not a particularly unique name. The groups are different. They are not the same group. One group is from Detroit, the other group is from New Jersey. The groups are not the same.The picture on the right is not the picture of the group singing on the record on the left. They are two different groups with the same name. I don't know if I'm being clear since I'm being so concise, so in conclusion: There are two different groups that recorded soul records as the Superlatives, one from New Jersey and one from Detroit. For DJing you should probably only use a conical cart if you play any styrene. Ideally you would use one for styrene at home also. Elliptical carts reveal more detail in the audio and are better if you have a nice setup. Otherwise you might just want a good sounding conical cart for home also. re: headshell, it is a total bitch (at least if you're not experienced at it) to mount a cartridge correctly in a headshell and attach the wires. Every time I have bought a new cartridge I have bought it from somewhere that sold headshells also and asked them to wire it up. A headshell is cheap.
