  1. no relation to joe valentine. This was a Chicago Val label, there are about 20 releases on the label. Some decent R&B things.
  2. also, if you haven't heard it you should: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8s1TSkQNcY
  3. no, but norton records reissued this like 10 years ago and t valentine did some shows again
  4. sorry, on a quick read the "promotional copy not for sale" text on it read to me like "non promotional copy for sale to regular record buyers"... sorry.
  5. i had some extra cash so i made offers on 130,000 records and everyone accepted
  6. Cut Glass on 20th century (orthea barnes and mildred scott) Jackie and Oneida on KC Grooves Terrifics on Diamond Jim
  7. Barbara and Gwen Funky Sisters Cherries on Big Beat Du-ettes Sweet and Innocent Honey Duo Twins (aka Jerline and Shirlene Shelton) Crampton Sisters ... will think of more later
  8. not answering your question, but here is a stock copy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76Sdet6XutE
  9. there are a few actual soul records on Rondo. Bobby Lanz and the Celtics (white though), both Aristocrats 45s, the Chattanooga Coachmen, Roosevelt and the Seven C's, and at least one more thing I can't think of. There are also a bunch of soulish garage 45s.
  10. That seller used to be active on ebay like 10 years ago and I remember buying from him a lot, but he stopped selling. I remember when vanguards "good times bad times" was super in demand. He sold two copies, one of them had a ripple warp going across the whole record, it was ridiculous, I think it still went for $2k at the time.
  11. you should respond with this link: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=emanuel+lasky+welfare&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=&x=0&y=0&incldescr=1 and tell him that he shouldn't be so rude when the popsike average sale price of all 7 of these that are listed is about $30 and popsike doesn't even include items less than $20.
  12. This (funk record) was reissued on stones throw a while ago, with the whole story of the group, etc., it used to be online. There was one only known copy at least a few years ago, it came from Texas dealer David Foreman's list. This copy wasn't bid up to $11,000, the seller put a starting bid of $11,750 which is ridiculous but which got a legitimate bid. None of the actual Aristocrats (e.g. who have another record on Rondo) had anything to do with this 45, supposedly it was just extra material the band did in the studio in the same session after the recording of the first single was done.
  13. It would be hard for someone I know to interview him otherwise
  14. I think it's crazy how much stuff he was involved with, not even just obscure groups, yet his story is not widely known. certain small regional label owners get much more recognition.
  15. I apologize if I did not write my statement clearly, which is what led to the confusion. I was never trying to say the group was ever all men. I was trying to say that every lineup mostly consisted of men, but there was almost always at least one woman. In fact the "fortune teller" lineup is the only one that was evenly split. Sorry again for my lack of clarity. Thanks.

  17. pretty much every lineup of the ad libs were mostly men
  18. pretty much every lineup of the adlibs were mostly men.
  19. The sensations are from Cleveland, not Chicago. Actually they were originally from Albion, MI but I guess were based in Ohio at the time of the recording. The eight minutes have 6 guys and 2 girls in the group. They were kids though which is why they might sound like girls.
  20. boba replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
People used to be able to fly overseas to the US and just pick up expensive records for nothing. Now you need deep contacts and would be lucky to find a beat up common motown record somewhere.
  21. re: availability, it's a pretty easy record to get
  22. thanks everyone for this incredible information
  23. I give up, here's the link https://www.discogs.com/artist/Horace+Ott#Credits_Writing-Arrangement=&t=Credits_Writing-Arrangement&q=&p=1&per=500 the production link is sort of interesting too, a few mid 70s jazz and funk LPs.
  24. OK, here is the list of "writing or arranger" from discogs, which is generally light on soul 45s, so he probably did way more. I have to split this post into parts because the messageboard won't let me post everything in one post. Hold on... trying to format this...
