  1. Eh up Paul. It's quite possible we both got it wrong Paul, might have been a totally different record. You sure it was Whitchurch?? LOL I'm not too bad buddy, hope you are alright too.
  2. You took back in time there, yes those Sowl Bowl packs were great for finding lesser known gems and new artists, labels etc. to keep a look out for. I think, if memory serves me well, I got the groups Paree 45 from Bob and Barrys list in the early 70's for peanuts, purely based on the One-Derful stuff that I had picked up.
  3. Vintage Record Cases Wanted - Sixties / Early Seventies Only if tidy, not trashed...
  4. Whitchurch was my first All Dayer so it sticks out, but later The Ritz had good vibe with lots of records for sale at that time as many, well some, were switching to Modern and selling their sixties stuff..
  5. Bit of a late reply but - I remember it well Paul. Except I think I had Jeannette White stuffed up my shirt... Either way great times.
  6. All valid points, as the saying goes, you can't take 'em with yer" Your mention of the early days, pre internet etc took me back.. In them days it was a case of using any gathered knowledge - labels, artists, arrangers etc. to get a clue on what records might be like. Obviously it didn't always pay off 'buying blind' but it also often did. I remember getting Art Posey - No More Heartaches on Scope back in the day, around 72/3, I had never heard it and sent off to the states for it, purely because it was from Detroit. Loved it and still do, that lead me on to finding his Take Or Leave It, again bought totally blind, but as you say prices were alot cheaper back then. Even so, as a schoolboy on the council estate I had to go carwashing around the posh estates to get a bit any bit of cash together. Sheeesh I've turned into my Grandad..... "When I were a lad" etc.....
  7. The decision to sell or not sell is obviously down to the individuals circumstances. I know some people who are in a position to actually increase their record collecting passion. The kids have all flown, the mortgage is done and dusted etc. If anyone wants or maybe needs to sell up their collection and free-up some cash, that is also understandable. Retirement does bring one thing - time on your hands, to do whatever you want to do with whatever time we still have... There is no right and wrong on the subject, as it is completely subjective. There are of course other alternatives to the basic question of 'sell or keep'. One such is to trim / refine your collection. Sell some and buy others that will bring joy.
  8. Wilburt Jackson was later in Two Plus Two on Velgo.
  9. Excellent
  10. Agreed. the mix is.... something of a let down
  11. Nice quality track. Eddie was pretty active in Detroit circles in the seventies. Is this from the Tortoise label? Hard to date on listening.
  12. Hard to say as it is hardly ever seen for sale. Not even the repro version. A genuine issue went for £250 at auction last year.
  13. Penned by Jessie plus also recorded by The Intentions and released on US Philips in 1967.
  14. Very true.
  15. HI Rob Just catching up with this. I remember you calling in at mine on your way to Blackpool, not long before you started Hayley. I've still got the Ja Neen Henry on Blue Rock that I played for you btw. One of the many gems featuring Mike Terry on sax. Keep up the stirling work. All the best John
  16. Amen I've sold off alot of things at various times over the years - e.g. late seventies to get together a deposit for a house, in the 80's at the birth of my son etc. Each time though, the collecting thankfully returns. I guess it's a bit like roses, you have to prune to encourage growth...
