All nighter scene 'up north'
This was me dancing in the 80's - in my regular spot, surrounded by loads of other dancers, loving the music, the times and the company.

All nighter scene 'up north'
All niters in the 80's were rammed. Lots of people left the scene in the 80's, but big venues were still rocking with us dancers often struggling for space. I always danced in the same sort of place - to the left of the stage looking at it, close up. The music was awesome with lots of quality rare modern stuff, lots of 60's "newies" and some well known classics. Loads of people missed the 80's and then returned moaning. You can't win! 🤣 Peter

All nighter scene 'up north'
Evening All I don't want to make a big issue out of this because I already made reference to it in a previous post; but. I am surprised at the very few references to the fact that one of the biggest drivers of the all niter scene back in the day was amphetamine, and almost everyone I knew used it. Most just recreationally, and limited to the attendance at all niters and all dayers, but for some it became more of a habit, and with it the consequences of a more regular desire and or need. I get the impression that a significant number of people, for many reasons, and which are non of my business, have very selective memories, and prefer to totally overlook the important role that drugs had in driving the scene when we were younger/youngsters. It is an inescapable fact that without amphetamine the all niter/all dayer scene would have been totally different - unrecognisable from what it actually was. The issue cannot be white washed from the history of the northern soul scene, and it's importance cannot be overstated. I'm sure not everyone will be comfortable with my post, and of course as I have eluded to, there were exceptions to the rule and not everyone used. But, the vast majority did. Evening all. Peter

Hi Chris I hope you're ok. I've been binge watching Walter's The Day on 4. I'm enjoying it, it's a Belgian thriller. https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-day Peter

The French series is far better. I do like French tv/movies - there's just something different about it. And that isn't a queue for a smart arse to say it's the language. 🤨 I'm currently watching one of "Walters" programmes on catch up 4 - The Sleepers, a Dutch thriller. Not as good as some of his others but worth a watch. I also binge watched On Call streaming on Prime. Very good with a 7.6 IMDB rating - very good too. On Call (TV Series 2025– ) - IMDb Peter

I don't collect anymore but have bought plenty of records from Johnny over the years. I have never had a bad experience with him and he's always been a gentleman. Peter

I was just interested to know how many you were waiting for and your level of frustration given some of the things you've said. Anyway, no big deal. Happy New Year. Peter

JM Sale
Perhaps, un-theoretically, you have a better understanding of Johnny's business than the rest of us, and therefore your acid comments are a little more appropriate. But, in the alternative, I think that probably isn't true and that you are in fact being a little mean and over the top with your comments. Incidentally just how many records have you ordered? Peter
-
JM Sale
I agree. I think that anyone who ordered items and didn't expect some sort of delay given the enormity of the sale has been a little short-sighted; or in the alternative they don't know Johnny and his enormous set up. Be patient, kind and trusting. Peter

I'm quite certain that he's already caved in! 🤣 Happy New Year Steve. Peter

Absolutely Graham. I'm sure some people are very frustrated but suggesting going round to Johnny's place is just inflammatory nonsense. Encouraging people to check out where his address is sounds intimidating - however frustrated people might be there's no need for that sort of talk. On a completely different note, I hope all is well Graham my old mate. Happy New Year Sir. Peter

There's always those with differing opinions Chris - I speak as I find. I hope all is well buddy. Peter

I'm sure Johnny and his staff are working as hard as they can to get orders out as quickly as possible. He is, and always has been, a first rate seller, and always a pleasure to deal with. Peter

All nighter scene 'up north'
Probably controversial but there is no escaping the fact that amphetamine drove most of the big all niters in days gone by. Whilst still some imbibe said substance not too many do due to age and health - although I do know some 60/70 year olds that still partake. The younger Bristol scene seems to be thriving and I'm only guessing that amphetamine doesn't drive that like the old days. It appears, and I could be totally wrong, but the young uns are doing what we couldn't, or at least wouldn't. Just pure energy and youth? Any views? Peter

Astrid, the French version I believe, is far better.

Johnny Taylor (What About My Love)
Yes, somebody ruined it with a nasty remix - I don't know whether it was a legitimate release or not. I wouldn't have given permission to create such a monstrosity of such a lovely record. Peter

Sam Moore : Sad News RIP
They were type cast far too much for "Soul Man" - they made far better records than that and were relatively overlooked by many. Sad loss. Peter

I just binge watched Swedish thriller The Breakthrough, and enjoyed it very much. I also watched the first episode of On Call on Prime last night. A cop thriller - looking good. Peter
