most us sellers with a lot or records now put sound clips up ( wish i knew how they get so many on, must take forever ) so you've only got your self to blame if you don't like what you get, the trouble with grading is the more a record costs the more important grading becomes. a problem i get sometimes is people think v/g actually means very good when in fact v/g to me means nearly knackered but still plays ok ish or ok for dj-ing joe.
-
i find a lot of us sellers only grade by eye ( no record player i suppose ) but most seem to undergrade to be on the safe side as i tend to do myself. trouble is everyone has there own ideas when it comes to grading, my vg+ might be your vg- etc. joe.

Billy Hambric Flaming Mamie C/w You're A Sweetheart Perhaps the most-wanted Northern Soul R&B thumper of the moment! The stop-start brass arrangement stretches out for a snarling vocal to binge upon, totally compelling - attention grabbing Dick Dale styled guitar intro and the pouting deep N’ dirty Sax is just too much to ignore… an irresistible dancefloor seducer.. You just cannot listen and not want to move - that is why this baby, is top of all the DJ lists of those Jocks who play Ravaging-Rampaging-Raucous-R&B-Romps!! This elusive disc is exactly that.. prepare for competition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 401.00 Rose Battiste Hit & Run C/w I Miss My Baby White Demo HEAVEN! Such a classic Northern Soul pairing that matters not which side you chose to spin, the effect will be the same..a FULL dancefloor. This is after all is said and done, this is archetypical Northern Soul from the top drawer. Everything a Northern Soul 45 requires is here in abundance. Shall we let the double sound file whisk you back a few decades to that Golden era of “The Torch” in full flight.. And let the flawless two PROMO labels provide a breathtaking vinyl-vista of perfection… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 432.00 Topics Hey Girl (where Are You Going?) C/w If Love Comes Knockin' You are about to hear the very essence of vocal-group Northern Soul not once but twice over. Part of the highly appreciated Carnival Records of New Jersey that Joe Evans steered into Rare Soul immortality with a plethora of outstanding Soul recordings. This short lived Carnival Records subsidiary was named after the company address of 350 Chadwick Avenue, Newark, New Jersey. With the Topics already having the fabulous “She’s So Fine” Carnival 520 under their belt, Joe Evans switched them to join The Metrics on his new label; the result is nothing short of STUNNING providing not one but two knockout Northern Soul gems for the owner. Lead side has been a top want of DJ/collectors for decades and requires no introduction as it features just enough in top DJ sets to tantalize and refresh. Smooth seamless vocal group Northern Soul at a pace totally perfect for today’s dancers. Having stated the obvious, dare I say we have all been playing the “wrong” side over those decades, as “Love Comes Knockin” is as good as Northern Soul can possibly rise to.. The magnificent vibe intro makes acquaintance with a soulfully polished lead with a heavenly male chorus enriching the ambiance of this refined slab of neglected Northern Soul. It always features in my set - I personally seriously rate it as an hidden gem begging for the wider audience..and undeservedly suffering from the “A-Side” being so darn good… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 764.00 Dean Parrish Determination C/w Turn On Your Love Light The first time in your life, when you hear the truly great 60s vocals it’s something you don’t forget. For my baptism of Dean Parrish came when I was in Nottingham Rediffusion Downstairs Record Bar, they had just started to rival Select-A-Disc for USA Soul imports. I had recently heard a fabulous Northern Soul dancer with the prominent lyrics of - “I’m Not The Kind Of Guy To Give In And Give Up - My Philosophy Is Determination” - I told the rather dishy counter-girl words, she promptly said I know the one - then drop the needle - Dean Parrish on Boom…blasted out the vocal caused me to shiver and ideally complimenting low-blow trombone had my hairs my neck bristling. Without hesitation, I handed over my £2.00 (a third of my weekly wage) I was now the proud owner of a stand-out tune and my introduction to one of the greatest white guys to ever sing soul had begun. I promptly forgot about the record I was first looking for, which turned out to be Jimmy Thomas’s - Where There’s A Will (There’s A Way) - Before you today is its ultime form, the British Rare Northern Soul DEMO Trophy of that Boom 45. I am sure most all of you will remember the very first time it entered your life as it is after all, a timeless Northern Soul classic. This copy is as gleaming green & white DEMO - it has a minuscule pressing flaw on the very edge of the run-in NOT touching or affecting anything. The vinyl itself is a shimmering Mint - as are both labels. Click the soundfile and listen to this great man at work and imagine an impressionable teenagers ears clashing with it for the very first time.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 348.00 Rubiayats Omar Khayyam C/w Tomorrow Quite simply this cherished labels rarest, most-valuable & most wanted 45. Accentuated by recent NS DJ attention, particularly the legendary John Vincent who is spinning it to death - to a crushing dancefloor response. 100% New Orleans, featuring totally innovative lyrics lauding the virtues of “Wine, Women & Song”, can’t argue with that or it’s rarity endorsements. This is only our 3rd copy in 15 years. You could always hold out for the USA Sansu press - but we have found that, even harder to find. Unconventional in the extreme but saturated in all those infectious qualities that make it usually the most-memorable spin of any evening! The prolific Allen Toussaint & Marshal C. Seahorn again craft an unmissable tune… This copy has a surface mark on the a-side not affecting play, with the beautiful vocal-group ballad on the flip also has a surface scratch but BOTH sides play LOUD and clean. PS we suggest you hit this 45 on the rise, as its rarity history suggests in a years to come, the value can only blossom.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 261.00 Parisians Twinkle Little Star C/w The Cockroach In Northern Soul World is there a more popular Dancefloor Destroyer than this BEAST? Guttural defiance deliverers a double helping of Ernie Fields writing skills! Snarling, growling lead voice is decorated in squealing sisters, honkin’-horns and persistent rhythmic bongos driving out an irresistible invitation to dance. Currently causing instant drink parking and the dancefloor dash..a total of a monster tune, surely no NS DJ can be without. Flip it over and that same rumbling bass introduces you to a weird but wonderful instrumental version with a Rodney E. Jones styled Rap woven into the roaring backing track.. not heard this before but I’m quite sure it would receive a most favourable response, as that commending lead vocal once again demands you to dance… Fabulous condition..throughout Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,116.00 Fire Flight To Cuba C/w Soul On Ice Have some FUNK - rare Bay Area FUNK is perfect condition! Just across the bridge from the airport Hayward was a happy hunting ground for vinyl for many a crate diggers from all over the world, during the 70s & 80s. But I certainly never found a copy of this rarity and I would not dare to have dreamed of finding a MINT unplayed example. This listing is another from a seemingly endless supply of “filed only” never-played records from a huge collection. If you are squeamish about vinyl blemishes and seek the impossible over 40’s, still in perfect birth-state condition - do not pass by - you will not see another like it. DEEP FUNK in deeply astonishing condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 243.00 Supremes Shake - 1965 4 Track Ep The three girls cover Sam Cooke like only they could under the guidance of Motown’s best Only 18 EP’s ever made for the UK market in the TME series and this is certainly a strange release as NOT ONE of the chosen 4 tracks ever reached 45 in the UK.That is the deciding factor why it sold virtually nothing on release and today it sits comfortably in the top 5 rarest most difficult to acquire EP releases especially in this fine condition So when it comes our way in glorious Mint - condition - it will certainly lure even those most-complete of TMG collectors and up-graders. Both Labels are clean as are front and back covers, front cobver has some light veins bottom right (see scan) they are minuscule. Vinyl is a very clean, some very light surface blemishes. Track 1 side one is the only track with a mark ad that does not affect play. It’s a tough one - an EP most will have missing from the run and this is a neat clean copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Billy Eckstine The Prime Of My Life - Autographed Absolutely perfect condition, vinyl, labels, and inner sleeve are “as new” cover inspection reveals only the merest sign of human contact. BACK COVER is autographed and dated, and sited in Manchester, England1989 For Motown collectors seeking perfection - this package is just that. Autograph collectors Billy Eckstine was one of the very greatest Jazz singers of he last century and passed away just 4 years after this back cover was signed. Berry Gordy made no secret, that his first love was jazz - and was delighted when he secure Billy to the Motown label in 1965 which produced two albums and 6 singles, one of which was a Northern Soul monster. This album whilst is mostly Jazz crooning we have sound filed one track that carries Northern Soul undertones the fabulous “Fantasy” which never achieved 45 release adding to it’s desirability. Having said that it is the 50 year old perfect condition, The Autograph and it’s provenance along with the fact that this guy during his 79 years had very few equals.. The master of his craft… was Mr. Eckstine Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 46.00 Miracles What's So Good About Good Bye C/w I've Been Good To You Condition, Condition, Condition! A listing for fastidious British Motown collectors who are constantly upgrading and seeking perfection. 1962 UK press is eye-popping condition, only revealing very light sleeve condition blemishes under strong light. A whisker off Mint - but as all TMG trappers will confirm this particular title is rarely if ever seen ion acceptable condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 155.00 Elements I'll Remember You C/w When I Fall In Love Again You are about to be introduced to an infinitely rare 45, one that displays everything the street-corner recording of hope is all about. Listen to this weeks Sweet Soul offering, shimmering with naive ambition and charm; making this 45 to those of you serious about digging deep for their rarities an essential capture as this 45 just never turns up. Primitive in the extreme, but that is the whole attraction, this 45 will escort you around the streets of Cleveland, Ohio and put on a corner symphony, the like of which you may never had heard before. Top sides is like a falsetto stand-off as highly pitched vocals warble their way through a simplistic arrangement with each vocal fighting to be the highest. Flip it over the pace lifts a peg and those vocal glide off again into a silky soulful stroll with only insistent drum roll and a guitar riff for company. Stupidly RARE … and in fine clean condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 336.00 Mark Iv Signs Of A Dying Love Part 1 & 2 Huge renaissance is happening for this New Jersey Soulful dance groove as I see it featuring on a few play lists of eminent Jocks. and who could blame them bringing this one back after it undeservedly languished in the shadows of “If You Can’t Tell Me Something Good” Today on the comeback trail it seems its time has come around again and much stronger. Listening to Otis Brown Jr. blend soulful vocals into a dance beat whilst still retaining a gloriously soulful atmosphere with lush strings and celestial background vocals adding layer after layer of opulence. With the relentless dance rhythm provided by a simplistic bass guitar riff… does it get any better? STAND OUT and rebounding with a bang… Condition is mirror-like! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 202.00 Danny Owens I Can't Be A Fool For You This perennial Northern Soul rarity is starting to be talked about again! The former Bell Boys cover/up and a monster for Soul Sam during the height of Cleethorpes Winter Gardens in the late 70s. Today this New Orleans feelgood Northern Soul dancer rarely comes to market, benefiting from years of rarity and consequently never ever being bootlegged. The wealth of Northern Soul that came out in Louisiana through “Dover Distributors is mind boggling but whilst Lydia Marcelle 45s on this label turned up in their 100s in the great 1977 “Dover Distributors” find in Dallas, this title was not there, and has remained Scarlet Pimpernel elusive now for near 4 decades. We have always recommended investment in rare New Orleans vinyl, but even if this started life in New York you’d want to own it as from the very first note it lifts your spirits; A proper vibe driven NS dancer credited to Danny Owens but you will feel it’s a group singing as there are at least two up front vocals… Condition is very clean only very light surface marks and plays superb throughout… x on flipside label Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 350.00 Carstairs It Really Hurts Me Girl C/w The Story Of Our Love THE NS CLASSICS IN PERFECT CONDITION - STILL IN BIRTH SLEEVE Seems currently to be the hottest form of Northern Soul collecting. This John Anderson discovery that started life as an Ian Levine Blackpool Mecca spin. Was at the time utterly groundbreaking music, going against the main principles of the Northern Soul turntable choice. It needed to be upbeat, powerful, joyous and built on a Motownesque foundation of feelgood dance. But Ian Levine new a tune when he heard one, this was totally different from the NS norm. But Ian only saw the potential of it becoming a Highland Room monster, which it did, virtually overnight. A quickly deleted new release at the time, that offered up something completely different with it’s lengthy instrumental intro, with jangling guitars seeping through a bank of strings… how could anyone have ever expected the voice that was about to beg, plead and beseech his way into you heart. STUNNING !! so compelling it single-handedly opened up the way for a more soulful sound to swap “The Mecca”. Controversial to those followers with a less soulful stance on their music, but to the soulfully entrenched it was perhaps then the greatest discovery of all-time… Today it still causes danceflooor mayhem, as space on the wood disappears… so when a flawless copy turns up and one that has never seen a Northern Soul DJ before.. we feel it is perfect for those collectors hunting the classics in as near “perfect” condition as it can possibly get… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 200.00 Chuck Cockerham Have I Got A Right Sitting firmly in my top 10 desert island discs. Not sure how many the local vicar will allow me to play, when I depart from this mortal coil - but this will certainly be ONE of them. Crazy About Crossover? It would be crazy not to be crazy about this! This is the top end of the much misunderstood genre - that Richard Searling championed @ Parkers, Manchester in the 80s as the pace slowed and true-Soul was the order of the day. The now Northern Soul “folklore” statement of one collectors ousting it from his collection because he though it was a “white” singer. must now regret his prejudice, as this ebony crooner with a creamy vocal backed by just as velvety horns crafts Crossover Utopia. This our first ever STOCK copy, has vinyl with some very light surface marks and is visually vg+ but just listen to that luscious soundfile, it plays a thoroughly clean Ex+ and both labels are clean Yes, Desert Island Disc and one to send me off to Heaven… like it just has done.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,616.00

Ad Libs Love Is Knocking At My Heart UNISSUED and absolutely stunning! Highly regarded New York group with what is unquestionably their finest Northern Soul offering and it never got released. Take a listen, I’m rarely I’m lost for words.. this time I think the soundfile will impress so much .. no flowery speak from me could possibly enhance what you’re listening to, as ownership has the glaring potential to elevate any DJ set into greatness.. PERFECT NORTHERN SOUL… just perfect Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 682.00 Out Of Sights For The Rest Of My Life C/w You Made Me Beg Bongo’s lift the curtain on one of the finest vocal-group mash-ups ever to hit vinyl. Shimmering with street-corner nativity and rippling with rough and ready enthusiasm, with seemingly all group members taking turn at the lead vocal, throughout this top-drawer Cleveland rarity. Label owners Chuck Brown & Frank Key craft a backing track just perfect for the more soulful NS dancer, who feels his every move guided by totally focused vocal. Pace changes, horn breaks, lead vocal swaps, key moves… it’s ALL there, everything you want to hear in an rarely seen or heard tune. The flipside Brown & Key again use every ounce of their imagination and provide the same full production this time injecting a FUNKIER edge to the proceedings. Two highly innovative sides is mainly why this is such a treasured disc for those lucky enough to already own a copy - making this a 45 that very rarely comes to market. In fact our first copy in recent times… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,438.00 Daybreak I Need Love C/w Everything Man From a profusion Patrick Adams guided 70s dance recordings, comes this his finest session. Take bow Mr. Adams for giving the Northern Soul dance scene a deluge of discs to consider. But before us today is your finest days work, not one but two distinguished dancers in the form of the Unicorn-Rare Whiter Demo! Dispelling any confusion over the stock copy orange press, which was later reissued, this is the very elusive WHITE PROMO in utterly immaculate condition. Classy a-side catches P.A. in mellow, mellow mood ignoring burgeoning 1977 frantic Disco-Sound and opting for the classy jazz slanted stroller controlled by sharp harmonies and a purring lead vocal - top quality arrangement with a magnificent jazz/funk instrumental break before the satin-coated vocal glides back in. Flip it over and again your in for a equally enthralling treat with the lead vocal this time gently cracking with emotion, the backing is equally slick backing is stronger with horns and piano directing the dance beat…if anything this is the more soulful of the two sides… But what great songs these two are, it would be tough to name a better 70s combination - surely a twinning of the very highest calibre, presented today in it’s by far rarest format… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 964.00 Delola Carmichael Leave That Boy Alone C/w I'm Gone So Long One of Northern Soul’s most coveted 60s labels not only for it’s stunningly colourful design but also for it’s wealth of product, some of which rank as the rarest Northern Soul 45s on the planet. 45s by Tut Sutton, Intensions, Idols etc. have all added to this most sought after labels mystic. May we now throw this sumptuous girl mid-tempo into the hat, by an equally mysterious Delola Carmichael who on both sides of this immaculate disc (with birth sleeve) gives up two Sultry-Sister-Soul dance grooves. Top side is a fabulously uplifting Northern Soul featuring an highly inventive arrangement saturated in quirky horn rhythm. In the right hands we see no reason for this beauty to take off huge - especially already with a enviable “Rarity” status. Flip it over and enjoy Delola giving an on-your-knees beseeching performance that Tut Sutton would have been proud of. Fabulous mid-paced Northern Soul Somewhat a cult disc amongst collectors but this rarity has snooze for too long in collections - time for it to hit those Northern Soul circuit turntables. BOTH sides have everything to take his 45 to the top. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 172.00 Wall Street Let's Make Love Super-Rare Bull City Soul ballad. Vocal Soul harmony fans slip your headphones on and indulge yourself for the next 4 minutes. These guys will have you submerging slowly into a warm pool of extravagant Soul; that the top groups Delfonics, Stylistics, Manhattans would be delighted to call their own. But this flawless 1980 recording is no known group but a one record only gathering from the streets of Durham, North Carolina. A. Abdulla Jones project that has the preciseness of Sweet Soul off to perfection. Soaring, icicle sharp falsetto, a short rap at just the right time and a rich vein of harmony backing throughout. Simplistic arrangement enables those fine vocals to take center ground and serve up what is for me quite easily the “BEST” Sweet Soul experience I’ve encountered in memory. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 67.00 Grandy St. Redevelopment Plus Merrily Pick Jelly Roll Wow! a Norfolk, Va. runaway truck is about to rumble into your life! Strap yourself in - for a dancefloor journey into oblivion…get ready for an heady cocktail of sharp guitar, relentless percussion and wailing brass.. it will be just too much to ignore. The insane mixing of Latin and Funk driven to the limit by drum whacking excellence and a crazed and lengthy sax break, the only pause for breath is when a Soulful Seductress injects a couple of sexy raps into the session… outrageously powerful….I’m trying to imagine the affect it would have on a full Niter Dancefloor…? FRIGHTENING!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 262.00 The Quik Bert's Apple Crumble The British MODS, the urban-culture who never received the credit of helping to save the weakening Northern Soul scene in the mid 80s, discovered their very own classics too. This long term MOD Anthem has more recently, stepped over the line onto Northern Soul all-niter territory, and boy does this sound awesome LOUD! Twangy “fuzz”, thumpin’ piano, background chattering, rhythmic hand-clapping opening catches the ear. Then BANG - an almighty drum explosion, followed by an insane guitarist and blows everybody away! The guitarist mad..? Wait till the Hammond kicks off.. utterly manic.. As instrumentals go this is not only different it is freaking BRILLIANT! I love a Sean Chapman set, never quite know what your gonna be treated to.. this MOD classic is RARE and now Northern Soul has embraced it…watch the value rocket yet again Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 168.00 Sherrys Put Your Arms Around Me Can it be more important whilst chasing the real-deal Northern Soul classics than to own the very FIRST RECORD TO BE PLAYED AT WIGAN CASINO in it’s rarest form. Joe Cook’s daughters grab and hang on to a careering Bob Martin arrangement that flies at the pace Wigan Casinos reputation was built on. Relentless and persuasive floorpacker that entirely fitted the amphetamine fueled atmosphere. This example is the first press Philadelphia PROMO that Joe Cook decided to release on the HOT label - and change the label logo from J. J. for HOT with a marker pen also crossing out a defunct BMI publisher right of J. Little. The silver label copies are of course bootlegs - before you is the authentic PROMO press of a history making 45 that just never comes to market. Act accordingly… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 565.00 Poppies Lullaby Of Love Although nobody said so at the time, today many consider this the greatest 60s girl group album ever released… in 1966 it sold virtually nothing. Northern Soul foragers soon corrected that oversight in the mid-70s then The Poppies became the darlings of Northern Soul. Dorothy Moore, Petsye McCune & Rosemary Taylor a Southern Girl trio signed by Epic for Billy Sherrill to try and capture similar chart success “The Toys” had with “Lovers Concerto” first release “Lullaby Of Love” was a “Lovers Concerto” clone, far too twee for the Northern Soul crowd but a great tune which achieved moderate gain, that prompted Epic to release this album. Are we glad they did because it is crammed with less “Pop” aimed recording that are just stunning Northern Soul. the pick of this 10 track LP are: 1 “The Love We Knew” - retitled for single release “There’s A Pain In My Heart” a Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier ANTHEM! 2 “Spellbound” - played of this album at the same time as “There’s A Pain..” top tune that never achieved 45 release. So popular with the NS crowd it receive the honor of being bootlegged. 3/4/5/6 “Don’t Throw Our Love Away” “Sure Is Worth It” “Wonderful World Of Love” “The Love Song ” all non-commercial solid Northern Soul dancers all never achieved 45 release. 7 “He;’s Got Real Love” The Poppies other 45 that received strong Northern Soul action throughout the 70s. After “Lullaby Of Love” the lack of 45 sales & the dismal response to the Album release. Epic dropped the trio, they never recorded for another label, with Dorothy Moore achieving Soul-Star status, Rosemary Taylor had a single for ABC the third member at the time Petsye McCune ..perhaps someone can inform us what direction this lady went in. The Poppies were one of the finest girl-groups ever assembled, before you today is the PROMO album that is a fine example of their work. Vinyl and label are immaculate. Front cover is clean, couple of very minor “corner bumps”, back cover carries North Dakota Radio Station I.D. and a file number - see scans of the vital NS album. The soundfile no doubt will have already impressed! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 54.00 Prince George Wrong Crowd C/w I Love Too Hard MONSTER moves from IRISH SEA to the NORTH SEA read all about it. Colin Curtis was the man - the man who made this left-field Norfolk, Virginia record a top want for every UK NS DJ. At the time in 1975 I didn’t know of anyone else who had a copy; So for what seemed an age I pestered Colin for his copy… I needed a record to sooth the agony of paying, a then record sum for James Fountain on Peachtree which within days came out on the Manchester based Cream label. I was a victim of insider trading.. I needed to bounce back.. Eventually Colin relented and said he would sell me “Prince George” .. without hesitation I jumped in my white Minivan and drove to Stoke On Trent clutching crisping £10 notes.. and wondering the whole journey whether it was coming out next week on Pye Disco Demand. Cleethorpes Pier was tomorrow.. I got my disc, I paid too much of course..but the reaction at the Pier, for the regular punters to hear a Top Blackpool Mecca tune above the crashing waves of the North Sea was a real-coup. It fitted right into that legendary NS FUNK atmosphere “Ton Of Dynamite” “Cut Your Motor Off” “Summer In The Parks” an the like, “The Pier” created… Today a Prince George “original” has stayed extremely hard to find! Here’s an authentic original copy - a 45 you just don’t encounter very often and a huge part of Northern Soul history. PS thinking back I was a snotty nosed novice .. because I never ever played the flipside “I Love Too Hard” which today, many think (including myself) is the side that we should have played. Two great tunes - one very rare disc.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 202.00 Gene Chandler Mr. Big Shot C/w I Hate To Be The One To Say This weeks classic white demo in flawless condition comes in the form of a stomping Northern Soul classic… But the main reason for this listing other than the eye-popping condition, is to raise awareness for the every note a good flipside…that has sat under the DJ radar for too long. You cannot overlook the influence Motown has had the recording or in fact the similarities of the song to Norman Johnson’s Showmen recordings. But when you realize Keni Lewis & Carl Kidd of SHRINE fame wrote both songs, everything clicks into place. The collaboration of Mr. Lewis & Kidd has been responsible for some of the most expensive rare Northern Soul 45s ever made. “Mr. Big Shot” has it all, perfect dance rhythm, blaring horns, snarling vocal full vocal group back-up, insane sax break and a constant Mike Terry influenced low-blow sax stabs. BRILLIANT! “Hate To Be The One..” has the classic one finger piano key pokes intro, then turns into perfect Northern Soul drenched in all the characteristics listed above.. not as fast but just a fantastic dancefloor inviter with a piano break to die for.. Consider this, if these two sides came out on Keni Lewis & Carl Kidd usual outlet of SHRINE records..what price today would this taste of double NS bliss be? We repeat vinyl & labels are impeccable.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 308.00 Impressions Can't Satisfy C/w This Must End Along with “You’ve Been Cheating” - “Can’t Satisfy” provided the 60s Soul dance fan with an alternative to Tamla Motown, as Curtis Mayfield aided by Johnny Pate recreated and arguably bettered the Motor City Sound. A Twisted Wheel anthem that on it’s 1968 + 1970 reissues on Stateside enabled, The Impressions at their best, to ensnare more teenagers at British Youth Clubs into a life of Soul music, perhaps more than any other 45s. So today, to be able to offer the opportunity of ownership to the coveted Red & White 1966 press is quite a joy, recalling as a 15 year I would unstitched my school blazer badge, so he could pretend to be a MOD on Friday night Kirby Lane Youth club… To that generation the British 60s DEMO is still the ultimate vinyl-experience and “Can’t Satisfy” one of the ultimate tunes of the time… Vinyl inspection only reveals only very light insignificant surface blemishes none whatsoever affect play and both labels are clean and free of any flaws. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 144.00 Margaret Lewis Something's Wrong Baby It more than rare to find fabulous Louisianan R&B dancer hidden away as a flipside to a hillbilly country rocker. The difference in styles reminds me of the great Wanda Jackson who could turn her style from Rock & Roll, Country & Western plus gritty Sister R&B. This lady has certainly got similar attitude. Listen to the way Ms Lewis rips into the lyrics, her Southern-squealing style carried suits the dance rhythm perfectly… then the record becomes truly fabulous when a wild sax break blasts and seals this 45 as something special. Seldom seen and gaining quite a reputation.. Clean vinyl with one mark, listen carefully you will maybe catch a click or two but nothing the detracts from the sassy lady’s spectacular delivery. RARE btw Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 85.00 Bessie Banks Don't You Worry Baby The Best Is Yet To Come C/w Try To Leave Me If You Can 12 years on the “Go Now” lady again flexes Sister vocal prowess with her most-sought after record, a haunting 70s dance groove of real stand-out qualities. The lush arrangement is bolstered by a a sultry sax poking holes through the swirling string section, an occasional trumpet intrusion and the rich flowing backing gives up the perfect atmosphere for this great lady’s effortless vocal to soar. Incredibly soulful mid-tempo stroller that’s been a dancefloor favourite for decades never ever out-wearing it’s welcome… but that is only 1/2 the story This is the so seldom seen stock copy that offers up one of the greatest Sister Deep Soul ballads ever made - listen & weep this is PROPER SOUL - PROPER RARE SOUL again supported by a musical arrangement that screams class. Weep also if you own the promo copy - because this masterpiece ain’t on the flipside. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 466.00 Various Artists New Faces From Hitsville UK Tamla Motown rarest EP by quite some way. Yes, the one most TMG addicts are missing in that colourful run of 18. This copy is neat and tidy, there is one light small scuff on the a-side vinyl NOT affecting play as you can hear. Otherwise the vinyl is a neat clean EX+. Check out those artists and tracks JIMMY RUFFIN before the “Brokenhearted” hit “As Long As There Is Love” CHRIS CLARK - Do Right Baby Do Right TAMMI TERRELL - I Can’t Believe You Love Me MONITORS - Say You None of these tracks ever achieve UK 45 status - unique offering of 4 top-drawer Motown recordings from artists who were then unknown to the British public. Looks beautiful doesn’t it… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 271.00

Step By Step I Always Wanted To Be In The Band 10 killer tracks from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin from an 11 member Soul band, that incredibly never received full American distribution from Brunswick and astonishingly not one of these great tracks ever pressed as a 45 or 12” in the USA (can this be true ?) Utterly astounding, as you’re about to hear SOUL GROUP DYNAMITE from our short selection of tracks, ranging from fabulous non-Disco influenced Soulful dance tracks to punchy Funk-spiced dancers. All benefiting from a potent horn arrangement and skillful male vocal harmonizing. So without further delay - click the very impressive sound sample and be in wonder why Brunswick never issued any of the tracks as 45s.. If you are especially a rare 45 collector this Brewtown party can be found of Wisconsin’s most sought after label Cuca with an impressive 7” “Give It Away (do It Again) c/w Eloise but just like this album - so darn hard to find! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 253.00 Timeless Legend (baby) Don't Do This To Me C/w Where There's Love There's A Way Just as I thought I was out of superlatives - the needle drops of this Rare Soul awakening - propping my weary head up, pricking up my ears like a dead-of-night guard dog. WOW! There you go a three letter ejaculation for a record that has changed my day! With a simplistic piano tinkle (you then know, not a commercial disco note is gonna be played). Enter the purring vocal chorus, then the lead voice steps up - the gate to Rare Soul Nirvana opens! Notes reaching heights that only despair can trigger, this session drips with regret, as remorse triggers the change and his buddies smooth the way with precise sweet harmony. Actually, I’m outta superlatives that do this 45 justice - click the soundfile and see how it makes you feel to come into contact with the insanely RARE and the ridiculously brilliant.. PS the flipside will delight the harmony ballad fans but I envisage a mad scramble for ownership the the Top Rare Soul jocks… that may be too strong to counter. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 782.00 Curtis, The Brothers You Make Everything Better Crazy About Crossover? I am .. really crazy..or should I say stupid because I’ve never really listened to this song in the past. Boy is this my type-of-tune..a very classy jazzy, choppy dance enticement that has me currently hooked. Check out those buoyant vocals slicing through searing strings, banging bongo raps to deliver a lush-Latin flavoured Northern Soul Crossover masterpiece! It’s relentlessness is contagious, as the sandpapered lead never drops his enthusiasm, even for a second. I must be crazy.. not to have this in my DJ box .. it’s awesome.. make a note to yourself. Manship next time you must pay attention in the face of brilliance. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 323.00 Big Mama Thornton Wade In The Water The undisputed Queen Of The Blues! Here is her most-wanted Northern Soul / MOD 45 which has been a best seller for us and all other dealers for fully 3 decades now - list it and it’s gone. We have just located a MINT unplayed (until the sound file was lifted). This is this weeks listing for the Vinyl OCD afflicted perfectionists, who accept nothing less than perfection, still sitting in it’s near 50 year old birth-sleeve. If we list it on the site - it will leave here in a flash… This listing gives everyone a 3 week window to consider, whether perfection is worth the extra pennies.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 233.00 Sam Dees Soul Sister C/w Easier Said Than Done Almost without exception on the rare occasions this 45 turns up - it is the double sided PROMO offering you only the excruciatingly Deep ballad A-side. So very pleasing today, to be able to offer up this seldom seen STOCK copy with the mighty currently-breaking “SOUL SISTER” dancer on the flip. Gritty gravel-coated blending of Southern Soul with FUNK. The result being a forceful NS dancerfloor persuader, that is currently very firmly on the way up. For the DJ the time is now to claim ownership. For the old-school Soul Collector the time has always been now - as every recording Sam Dees has ever made are fundamental building blocks towards an enviable record collection. Take time to listen to the flipside which encapsulates EVERYTHING about what made this man one of the greatest exponents of Soul Music to ever pick up a microphone or indeed a pen… PS Condition is perfect btw. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00 Shorty Long Out To Get You C/w It's A Crying Shame One of the very hard to snare Red & White’s! Offering not one but two killer Northern Soul dance offerings.. Even as the USA release this William Mickey Stevenson project is very hard to find on the original Soul 35005, as this 1965 TMG 512 stock release is also a mighty challenge to secure, as this non-hit sold virtually nothing upon release. Before you today is the rarest and most desirable of all it’s formats. So today before you are two lovely clean labels, original company sleeve. AS-side vinyl would receive a Mint - grade but for a light isolated scuff NOT affecting play (as you will hear as you click on the impressive soundfile) Two great sides - one essential TMG to own.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 123.00 Freddie Houston If I Had Known C/w Only The Lonely One Strap yourself in!! Freddie’s booming vocal has the power to traumatize your soul. The former Herb Ward cover up has proved over the years to be Freddie’s most difficult 45 to find. Typical Big City full orchestra backing supported an astonishing vocal, that smashes through like a rampaging wounded-beast. An incomparable voice - totally out there on it’s own, in terms of power, delivery and presence. This man coveys emotion, you just cannot ignore.. Flip it over, the pace drops but that mighty vocal doesn’t.. Wanna add a record to your collection that offers up the very pinnacle of that “Lost Art” of the Big City sound.. THIS IS IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 378.00 Hayes Cotton Black Wings Have My Angel C/w I'll Be Waiting This guy has a unique way of delivering SOUL that leaves you aching for more…raw and untamed power totally captivating! But perhaps not as captivating as its certified “Rarest Of The Rare” status. All dealers and collectors can without fail tell you when and where they secured a rare dream-record. Like fisherman can tell you of their most-prized-fish catches in great detail. The one and ONLY time I’ve ever found this trophy in the wild, was way back in the 80s when my regular visits to Rip Lays California shop/warehouse eventually led to me finish looking at his immense stock in Corncord, California. Having a few days left before my fight home and sleeping on Rip’s settee. He suggested after dinner I should check out the tin-shed in his backyard, as the temperature had fallen below the 90s. Next day crack of dawn, like a ferret I was in that still steaming hot shed ripping into sealed boxes of 45s.. Choking dust, searing heat but I kept up the pace as a box of Diamond’s had just thrown me Kurt Harris, Joan Baker later a Celeste Hardie or two and tons of mid-range 70s grooves. Then my prize of the trip, a gleaming yellow beacon half way down an 100 count, lay Hayes Cotton staring back at me.. Damn pleasing day, as I sat at Rip’s kitchen table and to my disappointment after 12 hours craft. The Hayes Cotton, Kurt Harris & the next 5 records in my great find I inspected were warped… I said ..”Shit Rip my best finds are sodding warped…” Rip bemusingly replied “Of Course They Are Warped..it’s gets over 90 degrees in that yard and like an oven in that shed…I won’t go in there… Spiders the size of mice” From totally rippled to light storage, Rip was right every 45 had some form of buckling This offering I can unequivocally tell you, must be the finest example on Planet Earth - totally flat and totally flawless.. after that not so euphoric trip down “Memory Lane” we’ll let Hayes Cotton do the rest of the selling…. Click and unleash a Northern Soul BEAST with very few equals… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,800.00 International G.t.o.'s I Love My Baby C/w It's Been Raining In My Heart I first encountered this juggernaut in a pre-Wigan Casino era in the wilds of Lincolnshire circa 1971 ?. When informed a young Soul Sam was playing Northern Soul in Lincolnshire; a Morris Minor Van full of unkept Pork-Pie-ville teenagers made the long excursion of 25 miles. How exciting trading one dull market town for another on a Friday night.. but for us super-hip young-souls it was at the time, perhaps our longest trip ever… One new recruit inquired after 6 miles “Why the Fcuk are we traveling so very far for a night out?” the answer was.. “Soul Sam is the DJ and he has the International G.T.O’s” “new recruit” from the back of the van… “Fcuk!! I Don’t Wanna Catch it..!” Like a scene from Elaine Constantine’s excellent “Northern Soul” movie, if you didn’t understand Northern Soul, you could well be heard making unwittingly funny remarks that near 45 years later, will still be remembered as the highlight of the evening… THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL from the inauguration of the scene spreading into the sticks.. tunes like this made teenager take epic journey’s into the unknown…and to just think only 18 months later we stood in amazement in the Highland Room, at Blackpool Mecca.. This copy of memories is immaculate! just a brief hairline brush detected after a lengthy inspection, otherwise Mint. PS do not overlook the hauntingly gorgeous flipside. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 305.00 Irma Thomas Time Is On My Side + 3 Girl defiance at it’s most impressive!! A record that the Rolling Stones recorded as an album track, but impressed so much, it achievea a 45 release in the USA. No offense Mr. Jagger but you didn’t think that Irma’s on-her-knees performance was never ever gonna be improved on..? “Time Is On My Side” stands today as Irma’s most-memorable recording as she injects sister-audacity into every word. But this is no “one cu”t EP the other three tracks deliver all the aspects that New Orleans Soul has to offer. Even with no front-cover picture of the “Soul Queen Of New Orleans”, there is something completely irresistible about the sleek laminated 60s British EP jacket.. especially with cover, front and back, both labels and the two playing surfaces in neat, clean condition flawless condition! Irresistible… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 135.00 Mints I've Got Style Vocal / Instrumental This attention grabbing and insanely rare Northern Soul on a most-beautifully designed label; Has been a huge tune for over a for World renowned DJ Michael Robinson at Manhattan’s “Dig Deeper” club - a Soul-Speak-Easy where the tunes have to rumble and shake to make a turntable appearence. Else where in the world, it’s extreme rarity has prevented it becoming wider known. This classic styled stomper starts with some angry drum-skin wraps colliding with blaring trumpet blows. Then the lead vocal group takes hold and belts out real-deal Northern Soul! A choking lead vocal goes all out to deliver substance & emotion, as his teammates back him with muscular “Daa Darrhh’s” choruses and those trumpets continue to punctuate the song with evermore adventurous note combinations. This is from the streets of I’m not sure where, but it’s damn impressively noncommercial and richer for its defiant atmosphere.. like all the great stompers over the decades, no attempt has been made to refine or polish in any way, just raw, off-the-cuff and oh so powerful. Jimmy Raye’s “Philly Do Around The World” would be a close comparable, all guts and blast, as a true Northern Soul stomper should be. Rarity? Well it is our FIRST COPY in memory and condition of the vinyl and both labels is glorious! Bigger NS Potential is staring right at you… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 289.00 Willie Amos Hunt Would You Believe C/w My Baby Wants To Dance The real beauty of the rare British Soul release 45 does not come more eye-catching than this listing. The real beauty of the rare British Soul release 45 does not come more eye-catching than this listing. Complete with its birth-sleeve and sporting two flawless labels certainly one Britains most-gorgeous. But there is so much more this 1967 British impossible than it’s striking good looks, it is after all a 7 second shorter but SUPERIOR MIX to it’s USA counterpart on Streamside. From the very first note you know it’s gonna different as the UK copy drops the guitar intro goes straight into booming vocal from the first note. William Hunt steadily builds the atmosphere assisted by a simplistic piano rhythm, blaring horns, low-blow Sax and a gang of shrill girls ramping up the background. By any standard this Bobby Hebb composition is Northern Soul Big City Sound at it’s blistering best! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 85.00 Levon And The Hawks He Don't Love You Issued twice in the USA and not easy to find, on the ATCO release on either number… issued once in the UK and so darn difficult to find, especially in this 50 year state of perfectness. MINT - in every way. Click the sound-file and unleash a most unusual slab of mid-paced Northern Soul. A foot-stomping stroller decorated by a relentless and decidedly jazzy piano, ever present blaring horns, full on echo-chamber harmony chorus support an extremely confident vocal, just telling the lady exactly how it is. “He’ll Break Your Heart” So very positive - so damn infectious - one for the very discerning UK collector…condition can only be described as “mirror-like” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 150.00 Earl Gains You Belong To Me C/w Don't Take My Kindness For A Weakness The legendary rare “510 XX” mix; Promo miss-press that plays “YOU BELONG TO ME” instead of the credited “I Have Loved And I Have Lived” Prepare yourself for a relentlessly surging stomper; a thumping, snarling slab of the real stuff! Acrobat inducing runaway truck of a tune; who’s reputation has built up over the years, as the frustration of playing the relatively common release that plays correctly, became entirely annoying. I just love these quirky pressing plant cock-ups, that provide the collector and DJ with worthwhile challenges to pursue for ownership. We know this “title” appears on his highly elusive HBR album, but this being it’s only form as a 7”, with the Deluxe 125 release being a slowed down and totally inferior dreary mix. Only way to own this floor destroyer at it’s much-prize single is to find this “NS folklore” miss-press and boy, is that an expedition into hair-pulling irritation… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 278.00

Imperial C's Someone Tell Her My wearisome craving for a top-flight vocal-group Northern Soul Grail is finally quenched! One of my all-time favourite tunes, epitomizing the power a record can have over you. So stand-out, it ignites hair-bristling goose-pimples down my neck as those “street-Corner” vocals fuse and ride over a intentionally sparse backing track. The simplistic arrangement is perfectly pitched to allow those emotional harmonies to bleed. So very Soulful, unpretentious and emotional. Even if this 45 was not Unicorn-Rare it would still sit at the top of my treasured 45s list. Hits every Northern Soul G-Spot.. making ownership imperative… Well let’s be Frank…when exactly are we gonna witness another copy in Mint - condition? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,518.00 Billy Keene Wishing And Hoping C/w Cross My Heart This week’s lower valued NS offering for those of you who have children to feed; is a listing that every time we add it to our website, it flies out the door within hours or days. The Los Angeles summer of 1968, again witnessed the incredibly hard working Mr. Arthur Wright in the studio, his expertise yet again crafting, not one, but two sides of delicious Northern Soul. Typical “Wright-Horns” and “Whacking Piano Notes” produce another compelling NS dancer that is currently very-wanted, but flipping it over brings a real-treat as the pace drops but the potency doesn’t. Billy Keene serving up a pleading mid-paced wall-of-soul enriched by cooing girls turning up the volume answering Billy Keene’s ever increasingly pleas of despair. This copy is flawless - instead of the “not being quick enough” disappointment of missing a copy - this relative “cheapie” can be yours in a few weeks time.. just make sure you attend Wednesday 15th. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 Lil Major Williams Girl (you're So Sweet You're So Fine) C/w Girl Don't Leave Me The very pinnacle of 80s Soulful Dance - they just don’t come any better than this! Not matter which side you drop the needle on… I’m sitting here in dazed trance somewhere between wanting to embarrass myself by doing the around the desk “Office Dance” or chilling in the bath with a New World Red! The coercive arrangement triggers the you straight into “dance” mode but in contrast the sexy Saxophone and silky trumpet solo, lulls you into rare soul “Dreamsville” - what a combination - this is genius at work.. Flip it over..and we are treated to NS Nirvana yet again; as the “Texas” in Mr. Williams seeps out, his beseeching vocal pleads and begs his girl not to go..the instrumental break gives you pause from his pain…but not for long “Dear Major I’m Gone” “And I’m Gone For Good” Love Katherine a vision of Major sinking to his knees ..imploring “Girl, Don’t Leave Me - I Love You So….. If you are not driven to pawning all the wife’s jewellery for ownership..you have no business calling yourself a “Soul Collector”… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,017.00 West Wing West Wing This highly sought after 1975 Barry White Sweet Soul experiment that sold virtually nothing is on offer today - STILL SEALED! Cocooned for 40 years unopened and perfect. A group with huge experience behind them as The Remarkables of Audio Arts fame revamp their image but stay true to the harmonizing vocals that made Mickey Vance Wilson, Thomas Anderson & Horace Coleman’s reputation. Please note: as this rare album is sealed, the sparse soundfile has been lifted from a file of a 2008 opened copy we sold - we advise a browse for “West Wing” material through YouTube to fully appreciate this 1 x 45 1 x album only group’s talent. Note; Absolutely NONE of the 8 tracks ever reached 45 release! Soul as Sweet as it gets - guided by of of the “Greats” of music…Barry White.. and the only way to hear this music in full is to own the very elusive album… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 152.00 Sisters Love I'm Learning To Trust My Man UK ONLY! and starting to receive a robust Northern Soul renaissance. 1973 100% Los Angeles conceived Soul-dance tune, that Motown in their wisdom never issued in the USA. British Mowest EMI executives on the other hand were constantly experimenting outside the box with their choices for 7” release, British Mowest 3009 was it’s birth. Sheffield visionary DJ John Vincent started featuring this slice of Soul Sister defiance almost as a “new”release at the legendary Friday nights “Samantha’s Club”. Sparking instant lift off, that spread through to Cleethorpes Pier,. Wigan Casino, Blackppol Mecca such was the demand for this now deleted 45, prompted UK EMI to re-issued it, on UK Tamla Motown TMG1002 two years later. Today to be able to offer a truly impeccable original 1973 original inside it’s birth sleeve and looking unplayed - is a small triumph, as NS demand is bubblin’ up and no doubt you TMG perfectionists will have their interest piqued also. Click the soundfile and get a taste of early 70s L.A. and what happens when the likes of Pam Sawyer, Gloria Jones, Gene Page & Hal Davis hook up together…. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 133.00 Lonzine Cannon Quit While I'm Ahead C/w Cold At Night Underlining the saying “The Good Die Young” Van McCoy gave the USA Soul Music more contributions than almost anyone during his all too brief life. Songs that varied from love song, Northern Soul Stompers and memorable disco. This 1962 New York creation panders to “Girl Attitude” as Luchi De Jesus picks the perfect vocal to smash out those defiant lyrics. Her previous memories of the guy who wants her back - forces Lonzine to ignore her heart and “Quit While I’m Ahead” Of yes, this thumping mid-range flawless WHITE PROMO offers up Northern Soul rattling with attitude and self assurance! Leaving you wondering how a man could write such vivid lyrics portraying a girl’s scars. Van McCoy could do it.. So now imagine what Mr. McCoy’s contribution would have been, if in 1979 he wasn’t taken by an unexpected heart attack at the tender age of 39. Now we can only wonder at this man’s gifts… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 224.00 Kim Weston I'm Still Loving You We were getting a little concerned at the TMG drought - it’s been what seems an age since we’ve been able to list a TMG tantalizer in a condition level that pulls all the TMG upgraders into the game. Before you today is a totally flawless 1965 Northern Soul classic that is particularly problematic to secure in near new condition. One of the obvious reasons being a lifetime of NS requests, after all it’s recognized as one of Motown’s leading Northern Soul contributions. Immaculate labels, vinyl only reveals the slightest sleeve contact blemish or two in strong light..snugly hugging the wavy-top original Tamla Motown orange jacket. It’s a beauty folks..and I can’t remember when I met a cleaner copy.. Fastidious TMG trawlers - look no further. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 396.00 Little Willie Littlefield Baby Shame C/w Mistreated This weeks R&B enticer is a 1957 San Francisco R&B rarity on the legendary RHYTHM Records label. Mr. Littlefield’s notably gnarled vocal whips up a storm through an energetic “jump” production. Rattling piano thumps out the beat, wild guitar picking drives through the bridges to an almighty sax-break that elevates this already impressive shaker into greatness. That saxophonist is crazed as he blows up a storm, then Little Willie glides back in the session. LOVE IT! Flip it over - for a somber slab of Bay Area Blues.. same backing musicians add to melancholy atmosphere, even to Sax-man keeps to his funeral march instructions to allow a clearly gifted guitarist to go it solo… Two stand-out examples of late 50s Blues from this highly regarded indie label that Bob Geddins and Don Barksdale did so much to establish as one of the world’s most respected street-level “Black Music” labels. Listening evokes visions of dimly lit, smoke cloud enveloped Clubs and a good time add by all - today I envisage a Northern Soul R&B crowd emulating those times nearly 60 years since.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 74.00 Richard Temple That Beatin' Rhythm C/w Could It Be If I was asked, what was this highly regarded labels rarest PROMO copy, I’d have to guess.. in fact it’s not something I’ve ever given any serious thought to, until now. Thank heavens for our 15 year old database that tracks every listing and sale we have ever done. So imagine my surprise to find we have only ever had this one copy in that time. Surely an anomaly, maybe copies just haven’t come our way? So we did a little search; No “Discogs” listing for a PROMO, no copies on GEMM or Musicstack. Only one copy revealed on CollectorsFrenzy in far less than Mint - condition. A good old faithful “Popsike” revealing fully 11 Mirwood WHITE DEMO’s to only 4 Jay Boy 31 DEMO’s. I’m as surprised as you - you just gotta love the internet and the evidence it supplies… This our solitary DEMO is Mint - and the data from the Record-Selling-World suggests it is much rarer than I first imagined; and we would certainly auction the extremely elusive Mirwood White Demo in MINT - condition, for sure. A guess built on this evidence would suggest the many of you who collect this highly-respected label, will most likely not have the DEMO filed in their run, especially in flawless vinyl & label condition! The Legendary CATACOMBS CLUB of WOLVERHAMPTON # 1 anthem! in it’s rarest format?….surely not! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Jesse Thomas Bases Are Loaded C/w Should I Pay Dues New Orleans finest come together to craft PROPER NORTHERN SOUL. Earl King Johnson writes, Wardell Querergue arranges and Theus Braden produces what can only be described as “Bangin” Northern Soul. From the very first note this ruthless production thumps out honkin’ horns, squealing girls all marry to carry a matured by life vocal. All the potential for a 4 figure price tag, if more than just the hierarchy of “Lifeline” All Nighters and the like, were behind it.. Another immense dancer - suffering a little from it’s own rarity - an ideal candidate for the aspiring NS Jock who wants to spin tunes very few others own. Deep Soul collectors will adore the heavyhearted flipside..which showcases Jesse’s vocal in it’s true light. Vinyl is immaculate, as is the a-side label - minuscule water tinge on flipside label (see scan) For those of you wondering about rarity - this is our FIRST copy in 25 years.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 265.00 Sam & Kitty I've Got Something Good A listing for the many of you who collect the Top 500 Northern Soul classics in their very rarest format - here’s one that you rarely witness. West Coast PROMO press of Prestatyn Weekender’s most-requested spin. I guess on first hearing Sam & Kitty had the same effect as it had on me…total disbelief as the needle dropped on it as I exited the “Selct-A-Disc” cellar. Nearly broke my neck scrambling back down the precipitous stairs to find out what the hell had just hit my 18 year old ears. I imagine it’s unprecedented Weekender exposure was caused by the punters wanting to experience their initial euphoria of the first hearing.. Anyhow, IT’S A MONSTER CLASSIC in a form that cannot be confused with any of the vinyl counterfeits, in a label design that stands out above all other variations. You want the classics, you want them rare and looking gorgeous.. do not pass by - this variation you just don’t see - especially in flawless condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 311.00 Little Tommy Baby Can't You See Oh Mr. Wiggles you gave Northern Soul some beauties to consider didn’t you! This extremely sought-after Richmond, Virginia stopmper has never ever “bootlegged”, one of those rare examples of Northern Soul that has spent it’s whole life in a USA collection side-stepping any Northern Soul Jock or collector wear and tear. The vinyl is in blinding condition, as you’s expect from a filed copy, you could not imagine finer, mirror finish vinyl. Only the 2 Radio Station guidance X’s on the label are it’s only flaw. We feel no need to describe the effect it has on the Northern Soul club crowd…we’ve all been caught in that avalanche of bodies dashing for a little dance-floor elbowroom, as Tommy takes off.. It’s all about - Condition, Condition, Condition! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 957.00 Day-tons I've Got To Tell You About It Part 1 & 2 As good as it gets! As Rare As It Can Be!! As Sweet Of Honey!! Total Soul Excellence!! Take a listen to this exquisite harmony ballad from the streets of Washington, D.C. and prepare to be very, very impressed. Sung with all the expertise you’d expect from a Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff guided session or a Marvin Gaye commanded “Originals” Motown recording. This production shimmers with precisely conducted vocals and subtle instrumentation finally decorated with a thoroughly seductive sax break. CLASS! real CLASS! and so freaking RARE! act accordingly.. if your a collector of real-soul! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 107.00 Sapphires Gotta Have Your Love C/w Gee I'm Sorry Baby In 2014 to find a British STOCK copy of this Northern Soul anthem in eye-popping condition is an inescapable pulse quickening experience. All old school Soul Boys would kill for a Red & White promo, most of us will die with touching one. But with the as elusive STOCK copy, it is all about condition. Even a lightly used and treasured copy is very rare. But a coming to the market of a lifetime filed and coveted copy is beyond-rare. We all know and love this masterclass in Philadelphia Girl Group Northern Soul it is after all a cornerstone of our scene, that in this astonishing flawless condition, is universally considered a British Grail. Please excuse my condition fetish but vinyl and labels this standard just turns me on… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 334.00 Bobby Guitar Bennett You Did It Again C/w Evol (love Spelled Backwards) We were going to set sale this outstanding piece of 60s Philly but a few factors stopped us -.. Only available as the STOCK copy (and so seldom seen) Never ever received a re-issue of any denomination So similar to Harold Melvin’s “Get Out” only this discs elusivity has prevented it rising to the ranks of “Timeless Classic” Even though the vinyl has a minuscule very-edge run-in wobble NOT AFFECTING PLAY playing surface is Mint - and the label has a couple of h2o droplet stains (see scan) we felt it turns up so infrequently, “Auction” was still the only route. So, take a listen to the consistency of the Philadelphia doyen of the studios Robert L. Martin, as he captures that “Get Out” atmosphere and betters it with a real-deal slab of Northern Soul. Bobby growls his way through a storm of horns and guitar slaps… serving you with an irresistible dancer. Potent, relentless and oh so memorable.. Put “Get Out” away - play ‘em this piece of Philadelphia - so very much better.. and so hard to acquire.. Just assessed the tiny edge-lift again ..I think, I’m being a little OED. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 273.00

Psychodelic Frankie Putting You Out Of My Life Northern Soul in recent times is enjoying an unprecedented upsurge in popularity. Not only for the NS classic dominated venues, but it is likewise true for those “breakaway” events, that demand the more soulful rare sound. Soul Essence has championed this style for decades but an unstoppable tide of rare-soul fans with impeccable taste have supported many other events. “Simply Soul” “Va Va Voom” “Just Soul” and more recently “A Dab Of Soul” have all played their part in delivering more quality recordings to a wider, growing audience. This 45 encapsulates everything the “breakaway” NS climate is all about. Extreme rarity could never be in question, neither could the soulful ingredients that go to make up this very “special” tune. Frankie “Psychodelic” Snowden swaggers through a horn propelled production, his brooding vocal delivering defiance-saturated emotion. Perfect pace for the dancers, with just enough beat to immerse yourself in what is more than “A Dab Of Soul” or “Simply Soul” not “Just Soul” but soul with more than enough “Va Va Voom” to deliver the very “Essence” of what collecting and dancing to real-rare-soul is entirely about. Top class tune and so seldom seen for sale.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,450.00 King Moses I've Got This Feeling C/w I Forgot To Say (i Love You) For 33 years a Rare-Soul “impossible” What a privilege to be able to enjoy, what is the absolute pinnacle of 80’s Rare-Soul collecting, not only offering up a legendary rare dance tune but also a massively moving soulful ballad supported by a full vocal-group backing, hidden away on the flip. Two sides perfectly coveringboth of today’s “modern” most collectable of genres. In the beginning only owned by British Rare Soul DJ aristocracy with those two known copies both suffering from that distasteful label address defacing. NOTE both labels are this listing are perfect! So with no furthest comment, click the soundfile and prepare to dance! … ..wait a second or two for the flipside to glide in.. then prepare to swoon! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,209.00 Ronald James Presents The Symphonics Ohh Wee, Thank You For Choosing C/w Symphoinic Strut I do like those seldom heard record collecting phrases… “Wow! I’ve Never Seen This Record Before!” Especially when it’s me, muttering it under my breath, as my white blood cells hurriedly oscillate around my arteries….Well, I never have! Never, in all my days has this 45 passed through my hands .. seriously RARE! North Carolina urban D.I.Y. Sweet Soul rippling with all those naive ingredients that charm so much, when encountering these hopeful meetings; with the end product never receiving airplay, only reaching family members and friends. This is street -evel Sweet Soul as rare as it can possibly get, practiced and perfected on the street corners of Greenboro, N.C. and somehow today landing on my desk in the middle of England. As so often happens with these limited singular recording the group wisely recorded a totally different genre on the flipside. If you into rare-breaks / funk etc do check out he equally unsophisticated instrumental on the flip.. The genuinely RARE, don’t you just love them… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 342.00 Magnetics Lady In Green C/w Heart You're Made Of Stone Straight from the USA - the much-loved Duke Browner’s crowning Northern Soul moment. You are witnessing a universally endorsed “HOLY GRAIL” moment. Both sides give up the flawlessly crafted male vocal-group Detroit Northern Soul of the very rarest kind…both sides are Top Drawer NS We have always been proud of the condition we consistently offer our Soul rarities in - this offering has you can hear, has surface marks from a 50 year lifetime inside a Detroit home. But I must admit, when coming face to face with the immensity of this disc, a few light pops along the way, do nothing to calm my racing pulse. We’ll let the full double soundfile & the two label scans with the Columbia promo sticker on the a-side, do the rest of the talking. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 7,520.00 Blues & Soul Issue 7 April 1969 The formative years of the World’s greatest ever window into Soul Music. This rare # 7 issue from 7th. The winning bid was £ 106.00 Johnnie Taylor The Roots Of Astonishing condition! Highly desirable 1969 UK release on one of the world’s most collectable labels. Dave Godin’s vehicle for soul music in the UK has over the decades become legendary. This Album showcases the incredible vocal-power of a Soul Great, covering Johnnie Taylor early years on Sam Cooke’s SAR label. Today this rarity is rightly considered a real prize, but in this perfect condition it’s a real British trophy piece.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 70.00 Garnett Mimms And The Senate As Long As I Have You Recorded in the UK during Garnett’s Club & University tour of England in 1966. There is no USA release for this 45, this session was supported by Garnett’s tour backing band, British “MOD” group The Senate. Listen as this furious recording captures the very essence of the MOD era, as New York Soul collides with British Psyche …and what a result! Bob Elgin & Jerry Ragovoy’s composition lifts the roof off, as British producers Derek Lawrence & Dave Paramor (Simon Dupree fame) rachet up the session with blaring-brass and wild drumming…wisely holding back the MODS preferred instrument “The Hammond” until 1/2 way through, but when that fires up all hell breaks lose! This is so damn powerful..just listening, leaves you breathless.. Before you today is a flawless 1967 British Green & White DEMO hugging it’s birth-sleeve. Irresistible.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 James Brown And The Famous Flames Night Train SUE the UK’s most sought after label - so when we turn up a release up in Mint condition - especially a Club-Classic, that is always in “used” and “loved” condition, we feel the British vinyl-perfectionist would like to claim ownership. Not the rarest SUE but certainly one the most difficult to acquire at this level of condition - which is MINT on the eye - but forensically Mint -. It’s plain white birth-sleeve will accompany this, one owner from new, copy to it’s final resting place..sitting snugly in a SUE run and replacing the invariably under Mint resident. Perfectionists look no further…Twisted Wheel classic and an integral part of this most-important of British 60s labels and our history. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 78.00 Sherry Satins Don't Let Him Catch You Crying C/w Little Girl Sad Girl group collectors they don’t come any rarer, than this Northern Soul bomb on one of Northern Soul’s admired labels. In the true style of the 60s girl-gathering this recording thumps away, overflowing with multi-vocals belting out the lyrics simultaneously. Only occasionally does the single-lead come in, then it is supported by heavenly soaring of oohing and cooing. This is very rare “Wall Of Sound” Northern Soul - another listing that is so elusive, most will not be aware of it’s huge potential until the “listen” button is hit. Flip is great too…if you’re drawn to the “Girl” sound, they don’t come any richer or indeed any harder to capture than this.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 123.00 Brenda Holloway Just Look What You've Done An utterly flawless UK DEMO embracing it’s birth-sleeve… One of Brenda’s many fabulous Northern Soul dance offerings, but arguably her least heard? Recheck on this racing Northern Soul winner guided by the master-craftsman of 60s dance, Mr. Frank Wilson himself. The perfect marriage of Brenda’s gilded vocal and Frank’s invariably bulging out of the studio productions. Loud but seamless, potent but Soulful, explosive but crystal clear…made possible when an impeccably crisp vocal is guided by intelligent enthusiasm. These two Soul-savants, were at the time at the very top of their trade…the result …just like the record is completely immaculate. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Fred Johnson I Feel The Soul C/w Don't Leave Me (i Was Wrong) The perfect alternative to Stanley Mitchell’s “Get It Baby” this mid-tempo slice of Northern Soul Heaven, has slept for too long! This addictive Chicago Northern Soul mid-tempo groove, has snooze away in obscurity , suffering from it’s own extreme rarity; With mosst all collectors and certainly the vast majority of the NS dance crowd have never heard this killer in it’s natural environment - the hot-steamy all nite session @ 2 am - dropping the needle on this jam, could have only one effect. Check out it’s off-the-cuff atmosphere, as Fred Johnson grows into an ever increasing in power session, lifted by shrill girls, a Detroit styled piano rhythm punctuated by a persistent saxophonist. Building up to a crescendo as the sax-man tips over into “Saxie Russell” mode at the end. FANTASTIC STUFF and the only reason it’s not ramming the floors of European Northern Soul clubs - is because hardly anyone owns a copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 274.00 Enchantments I'm Falling In Love With Your Daughter Part 1 & 2 Condition, Condition, Condition! Nearly 50 years old - and this file-fresh Northern Soul stomper has never encountered a club-stylus. One disc in a line of Autumn and winter offerings from a file-only hoarder collection. If you like your Northern Soul with meat n’ potatoes, uncompromising and relentless you will already be familiar with this explosive dancer. What you maybe not be familiar with, is two flawless labels and vinyl that was most-likely unplayed until it had the almighty soundfile lifted. Stunning… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 338.00 Willie Hooks Am I The Man C/w The Place Around The Bend This weeks RARE and very compelling Northern Soul R&B listing is something rather special we think! In Los Angeles autumn of 1965 Wallace Petty & Willie Hooks were getting to grips with two persuasive street-level dance tunes, instantaneous dance grooves. Topside displays Willie’s controlled Bluesy-growl rides a piano arranged that is suddenly elevated into specialdom by a studio of howling horns! This is mid-60s R&B dance, not only at it’s most convincing but also at it insanely rarest! So what does the flip hold for us… the same pianist rattles out the intro as Mr. Hooks calms somewhat but still thumps it out his urban enthusiasm with that whiskey-worn vocal.. Two great sides - with the lead side carry massive potential for the R&B DJ seeking the ultimate rarities. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Jade Boodi Shakes Money For lovers of Psychedelic FUNK here is a ground level beast from the streets of Norfolk, Virginia! George Clinton influenced shaker led by Cow-bells beatinng out time, with the rhythm galvanized by a persistent Wah-Wah guitar that veers off into a couple of insane solo’s, whilst Jade members incessantly chat their mantra. Flip it over and it gets a little crazed, as the gathering push their love of all things Funkadelic/Parliament to the very outer limits. This 45 is very specialized stuff and very seldom comes to market.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 75.00 Vel-vets I Got To Find Me Somebody “I’m Gonna To Find Me Somebody” .. WOO! “I’ve Got To Find Me Somebody” .. WOO! “Gotta Find Me Somebody!” To witness a NS gathering performing synchronised raised arms and consolidated screams of “WOO! When peering down onto the 1974 Wigan Casino throng, has to be, for those who witnessed it, the most-moving statement of music-fan-camaraderie possible, and for everyone there a defining moment of their Northern Soul lifestyle. Considering 40 years down the road, exactly the same response can be experienced at any British club, the moment the needle is dropped on this timeless Los Angeles classic, underlines the strength of the scene. Before you today is the rarely seen West Coast styrene STOCK copy with birth-sleeve, so very attractive…so damn historical..and so impossible not to go WOO! Sorry, this item has already been won! Doc Peabody Here Without You Part 1 & 2 Goose-pimple inducing Soulful dance! It is records of this stature that convince me that listening or dancing to Rare USA Soul is the most-gratifying musical experience I personally could ever experience. This record and the very few other known recordings of this unattainable calibre, take me and I’m sure you also, deep into a place nothing else can. Awesome, street-level Cleveland, Ohio D.I.Y. Real Soul, saturated in mood changing influences. Sulking strings decorated by a desperately beseeching Womackesque vocal, come together sparking off the perfect “lost-Love” Soul struggle. THIS IS RARE SOUL AT IT’S VERY, VERY FINEST! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,084.00 Wilson Love (the Money Song) Funny Money From the fertile streets of Oakland, California comes the spring of 1970 Northern Soul crossover delight! It is the same team that covered The Mylestones NS instrumental classic “The Joker” on Way Out Records, Bay Area “Natural Soul Band” guided by the prolific Jesse Mason. Mason takes a more subtle approach to their music this time, with a thoroughly classy soulful stroller. The mysterious “one” recording only Mr. Wilson Love, displays such “cool” with his throaty cultured vocal, woven into a well endowed horn arrangement all served up at a most-refreshing pace. This just floats from start to finish, little wonder over the years this rarity has graced the highly discriminating turntables of Soul Essence, Just Soul, The Orwell etc. where only the pinnacle of our music has the opportunity of an airing. Like a returning lover, it’s been a long time since I’ve encountered this beauty, and it sounds even better than the first time I feel in completely in love with it.. Virgin “Unplayed” cocooned in it’s birth-sleeve until we lifted the impressive soundfile. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 386.00 Montclairs Hey You! Don't Fight It! C/w Never Ending Love My first recollection of his sumptuous 45 was when I heard Paul Rudzitis play it on a Thursday night at a small club in Leicester circa 1972/73. and now more than 40 years past my Gas-fitting apprenticeship days; when I hooked up at night in Leicester with Plumber apprentice “Shelvo” to frequent the short lived “Lacarno” on Silver Street, Leicester Northern Soul events. Rudzy was way ahead of his time, as in the same set he’d spin Life’s - Tell Me Why - as a new release. Playing to a handful of customers who had mostly had no idea what these two currently breaking Blackpool Mecca tunes were. Today both records are considered jewels of our music. With The Montclairs always being a well received turntable choice; invariably filling a floor as the cultured harmony vocals glide through a terrific NS dance arrangement. Collectors note; this aged Northern Soul artifact that has ignited euphoric recall of my formative years, is an eye-widening MINT. Utterly flawless in ever way…most likely unplayed until the impressive double soundfile was lifted - certainly needs to be kept at arms length way from grimy upstart Gas Fitters or plumbers for that matter. Happy days… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,287.00 Hesitations She Won't Come Back C/w I'll Be Right There 1967 vinyl press Philippines PROMO It is no secret that PIED PIPER I consider crafted the greatest 60s Soul productions any team has ever made. This double helping from the PP Gang from their premier male vocal group, perfectly qualifies that comment! Not even an hint of commercial aspirations, as both sides are sodden in proper Soulful emotion, knitted together by the most easy to dance to, Motor City arrangements. The writing skills of Lorraine Chandler & Jack Ashford set the tone for the A-side Northern Soul cruise, with Rare Earth’s Ray Monette & Mickey “Guitar” Baker laying down the lyrics for arguably the better of the two sides.. But it matters not which side you play, you’re treated to silky Detroit Northern Soul served up so very smoothly by one of it’s finest male-vocal-groups to migrate to Detroit. Before you today is the insanely rare 1967 Philippines PROMO copy; pressed in high-fidelity VINYL - the USA Kapp counterpart is of course styrene… I’ve personally have never seen a copy of this “impossible” variation before…have you? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 163.00 Supremes Nothing But Heartaches C/w He Holds His Own The lure of the Red & White Tamla Motown DEMO never ceases to pull you in. For those of you demanding flawless condition whilst on the journey of completing the TMG runs or indeed climbing the Tamla Motown “Everest” of owing all the Red & White Demo’s made. Let us assure to this offering is a sparkling Mint - throughout. As you can see two spotless labels, original Birth-sleeve and vinyl that only reveals the merest sleeve brush blemish or two in strong light. We doubt many will need reminding of the H-D-H genius that the grooves give vent to… but click the soundfile anyway to hear the Motown girl-sound at it most vibrant! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 222.00 Thelma Houston Baby Mine C/w The Woman Behind Her Man If your edging towards that magical milestone 60 years of age. This 45 will have the power to catapult your mind back to those heady days of The Torch, The Cats, Leeds Central, Saturday’s in Selec-A-Disc’s cellar, Friday mornings waiting by the leterbox for a Brian 45 Phillips or Soul Bowl list to drop through the door. later on journey’s to Wigan Casino…this 45 screams the Northern Soul glory years of 1972 to 75. So how pleased are we today to be able to offer you a near 50 year old “Virgin” copy in utterly like new condition. We are guaranteeing this copy is UNPLAYED - soundfile lifted off a recent PROMO we just added to the website. I don’t think I ever saw a mint unplayed copy back in the early 70s..so those of OCD about condition you will be over the moon to own this “lifetime filed” only copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 188.00 Soulful Two Fi-yi Dance As a young lad the most exciting thing to me was awaiting Saturday’s mail - it would contain the much-anticipation “Brian 45 Philips” set sale of Soul listings. Wow, this guy always had tunes I’d never heard of but just by the titles I was sure I wanted to own. Jimmy Soul Clark - Come On And Be My Sweet Darling - being my first “surprise” purchase.. you can imagine after that I was addicted hook, line & sinker compelled to buying myself records that just looked good in type! So when these words jumped off the page at me… SOULFUL TWO - FI-YI DANCE - PURE SOUL MUSIC ownership was imperative… but I was to be disappointed SOLD already. It would be literally years and years before I even heard the record, but it never left my head… Artist, title & label branded in my mind forever…like some mystical dream.. Well, when I was to eventually own a copy I was not disappointed, always a sucker for a good instrumental - and this long-lost want was so different. It emitted the 1966 street-sounds of Los Angeles as Leon Haywood’s long-term associate Nathaniel Nathan crafted a simplistic but highly infectious mid-60s groove from a guitar and a set of Bongos…how talented is that. Having guided instrumental group The Packers already to Northern Soul success this session could easily have followed “Go Ahead On” or “Hole In The Wall” but one thing stood in it’s way, unlike The Packers 45, The Soulful Two disc was seriously elusive, and never achieved the depth of play for it to take off big. Although I have been told it did receive muchlove from a few of the “Stafford” jocks. Anyhow, this 45 still after 44 long years holds a special place in my head..and today it still flicks on all the adrenaline switches the returning of an old friend should do. Rare, infectious and decidedly distinctive… love it! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 175.00 Mitch Ryder And The Detroit Wheels You Get Your Kicks Not many, if any English Soul collectors will be able to boast of owning this 1975 debut British outing for one of the timeless classics, from it’s Brian “45” Phillips “Twisted Wheel” beginnings to the recordings popularity peak of The Catacoombs / Golden Torch. Previously USA only release, that rose to floor destroyer status, taking over the NS baton from “Breakout” . Before you today is one exceptionally rare and historical British studio acetate cut by Pye Studios for the 1975 Pye Disco Demand release #113 (where interestingly they misspelled Ryder as “Rider”) released to meet the huge demand created as Wigan Casino Jocks still featured it’s potency every Saturday, for it’s instant rapturous floor filling powers. Direct cut - blaring brass carry Detroit-defiance along on a wave of total 60s-dance. Historical - spelled correctly and so neatly written credits - we think it looks gorgeous, don’t you? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 36.00 Mickey & The Soul Generation Southern Fried Funk Part 1 & 2 Independent 70s FUNK instrumentals do not get richer than this “kitchen-sink” production. George Salas’s creation of “Southern Fried Funk” is full to overflowing with a maelstrom of horns, fabulous talented guitar picking, restrained and perfectly pitched keyboard work; all decorated by an insanely intrusive saxophonist. Iced to perfection when that guitarist twangy punctuations hit at exactly the right times. As rare urban-FUNK goes this gathering have served up some real killers, this example being no exception, to the high standard these guys work to… Strong, relentless stuff from a band of highly gifted musicians. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 40.00 Jackie Shane In My Tenement This weeks mid-price NS offering comes from studio of Henry “Juggy” Murray; one of New York’s hardest working music-men, again “Juggy” delivers the East Coast big production, with this, the original version of Bobby Scott & Artie Resnick’s much recorded song. This Latin spiced, trumpet propelled Northern Soul chugger ripples with all those delicious Big Apple influences. Backing is littered with relentless girl chatterings, soaring brass elevating a “feminine” male vocal, that fits the atmosphere perfectly. The hardest aspect of capturing this 45 - is condition - so often witnessed suffering from surface marks and label defacing. This copy is a beauty, tiny BB drill being it’s only flaw. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 133.00 Joann Courcy I Got The Power a flawless 1966 New Yorker from the desk of the man who mentored Doris Troy to successful Soul-stardom. Ex-Orioles “tenor” Gregory Carroll wrote and produced this Goliath of a stomper…so far away from his days of crooning “Crying In The Chapel” Mr. Carroll serves notice with thumpin’ piano intro, closely followed by screaming horns to accompany the high-pitched “Courcy” swagger, as she struts from one verse to another, elevated by the vocal-group chorus in the back-up. First played by the legendary “Poke” at Cleethorpes Pier, volume right up.. I thought the structure would slip into the North Sea under such power…. Courcy-Power! Proper Norther Soul!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 775.00 Newbeats Crying My Heart Out From the Golden Days of Wigan Casino a NS CLASSIC in it’s most desirable and least seen form - a summer of 1966 British DEMO! Shreveport, Louisiana trio who hit the big time with their Four Seasons styled performance with “Bread and Butter” but also broke through big into the British 60s all-night Club scene with the iconic “Run, Baby Run” a formative recording that hooked so many teenagers into a life of 60s “Soul” dance, through it’s Youth Club exposure of the early 70s on the back of Twisted Wheel anthem status through the 60s. But before you today is pure-distilled Wigan Casino anthem and the certainly for me The Newbeats most-stimulating recording. Immaculate condition still snoozing in it’s birth-sleeve… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 61.00 7 Sounds Ltd., (i'm Waiting For) Sweet Harmony C/w Blessed Return Not only extremely RARE, is this weeks Sweet Soul offering. But it also carries a bonus tucked away on the flipside; in the form of a contagious blend of Jazz/Latin & FUNK! I can tell you very little about the group or indeed of it’s origins; as this is the first time we have ever listed this obscurity for sale. But the label design and texture suggests the New York area. As does the fluid sweetness of the harmonies, as falsetto backing cushions the expressive lead vocal who seems at times to be in despair, very reminiscent of other N.Y. soulful ballads. Then towards the end comes the fabulously Deep and meaningful “Rap” break using a deep n’ husky Soul Man to get he message nailed.. Flip it over and Big Apple influences are again apparent with the FANIA influence 5.15 minute Saxophone dominated FUNK groove driven by a fusion of insanely frantic guitar work, rattling drumming, jazzy keyboard and that relentless saxophonist after a short break crashes back in with a vengeance! More contrasting sides on one disc would be hard to find..but both sides give up compelling Off-The-Wall spontaneity. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 36.00 Twisted Wheel Flyers Summer Attractions & Special Door Price Flyers If you lived at 18 Empire Road, Burton On Trent in the summer of 1969, you would not be thinking “Beer” at the weekend, after this envelope dropped through your letterbox. An invitation to spend your Saturday nights on Whitworth Street, Manchester. A MOD oasis within the mediocrity of the British music scene, as the management and the DJ’s endeavored to offer the very finest in USA & British R&B / Soul acts and recordings. Summertime for THE MODS meant the seaside and running battles with Rockers or Greasers as their name had been recently adjusted to. So the country’s primary all nite club did a special offer of 10 shillings on the door. What a bargain to see the likes of Jamo Thomas, Jimmy Ruffin, The Crystals, The Ronnettes or maybe James & Bobby Purify would attract? Before you are Summer Attractions & Special Door Price flyers in the same condition as Mr. J. Watson viewed them way back in June 1969. Authentic original Northern Soul club memorabilia has never been more sought-after - to acquire in this level of condition and still retaining the original franked envelope it was mailed in…is the pinnacle Northern Soul archiving . Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 29.00 Tams Hey Girl Don't Bother Me C/w Take Away The Twisted Wheel all nite sessions were only a year old when this 45 hit the streets of the UK. It is unclear to me at this time whether R&B pioneer Roger Eagle actually purchased it as a new release or it was to be discovered at a later date? But one thing is for sure over the following 6 years this 45 had such and impact and built up an unrivaled reputation that when UK Probe re-issued it in 1971 it shot straight to #ONE in the charts. To become the first real hit to ride on the back of a Northern Soul reputation. Before you today is a 45 that after 1964 and it’s swift deletion was an impossible grail for “The MODS” a DJ trophy with very few equals..Joseph Pope’s singular vocal style fronting some ultra-smooth harmony backing woven into an irresistible dance rhythm. It smashed the charts and echoed around every British Friday night Youth Club session. An historic 45 dripping with the breeding that made the Northern Soul scene the thing to be part of during your youth…never expecting it to be a lifetime thing.. This copy is mere whisker away from an all round Mint - ESSENTIAL British vinyl collectable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 147.00

Beth Bynum I'll Set You Free C/w It Hurts To Be In Love In the USA obviously much-rarer than thought of in Europe judging by forum musings on this history drenched 45. From beautician to highly respected maker of Detroit black music. This weeks offering to the alter of Northern Soul R&B is a very elusive Detroit creation dripping with Motor City history and and a little mystery. Mike Hanks’s early 60s association with House Of Beauty (HOB Records) owner Carmen Murphy saw the pair pen this song together from now famous 111 Mack Avenue, Detroit. Carmen of course went on to have a brief association with Motown Records with her HOB label and also sold the “Soul” label name to Berry Gordy in 1964. This 45 is prior to all those well documented events.. and is shrouded in a little mystery Stateside as some of Detroit’s Music Guru’s ponder 10 years back on it’s existance as none have them had seen a copy. Several replies to Ron Murphy’s plea for info on this disc received quote of “I have also only seen Star Maker #1929 listed; I’ve never met anyone who has seen a copy, and the members of the group that recorded the other Star Maker 45 didn’t know about it. It’s certainly a mystery. ” Another reply underlined this discs obscurity “I have never seen that on vinyl, nor heard a tape of it. I don’t know anyone that has seen it ” With these postings from time-served vinyl professors, I can only add this is my only recent encounter with the disc also. Topside is a thumpin’ R&B blaster - the flipside is a recognized Belgium “Popcorn” spin. Amazingly both sides better known in Europe than Detroit with it appearing on British compiled label listings. We could hardly validate it’s obscurity any more than the above ponderings does… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 452.00 Major Lance Hey Little Girl C/w Crying In The Rain Major Lance fans and British Red & White DEMO addicts..How elusive is this 1963 British beauty? 1963 was a big year for Major Lance and his introduction to the British record collector - although he never secured a hit single, he did slowly but surely get “spotted” by the UK Soul-sleuths of the early 60s. As they waded through he Music-Paper review pages, release sheets and Record shop new arrival sections. It took three releases and an EP before “The Major” got a brief “nod” with his “Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um” which Wayne Fontana covered and took on to become a hit. Within 3 more years though, he was the most revered Northern Soul artist on the planet..the rest of course is history. This was his 2nd. UK release and it sold virtually nothing - as a Red & white promo it is a rare & historical platter indeed and in this gleaming condition a rather delectable piece to own. Study scan carefully as the “white” of the Demo label has a tinge of age-browning particularly on the flipside…the vinyl and birth-sleeve are flawless. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 David Coleman Drown My Heart The British David Coleman spent decades at the BBC entertaining us Brits with his timeless sports commentaries, including quotes like. “The front wheel crosses the finish line, closely followed by the back wheel.” “That’s the fastest time ever run - but it’s not as fast as the world record.” “It’s a great advantage to be able to hurdle with both legs.” “If that had gone in, it would have been a goal.” and my all time favourite: “Forest have now lost six matches without winning.” But none of those enduring lines get even close to his New York namesakes..who delivers one of the most defiant “lost love” lines of all time “Yes, You Know Girl, That You Left Me Like Dirt On The Carpet… I’ll Pray One Day You’ll Find Yourself Brokenhearted..” Hector Rivera’s Orchestra serves up a smorgasbord of horns and bongo’s for David Coleman’s vocal to snarl and growl it’s way through his provocative commentary..woven into a spectacular Latin/Northern Soul dance rhythm “I personally I never do a DJ set without it…..even when I’m not DJing”. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 286.00 Joe Jama My Life Stampede igniting Northern Soul from the very moment Henry Atkinson’s discovery featured in the first DJ sets some 15 years since, when it was cheekily covered up as “Little Henry”. Yet another in a long line of San Antonio 60s offerings to the Northern Soul scene, this example being the most wanted, most popular and certainly the most dancefloor effective of them all. This listing offers the rare opportunity for the NS Jock to guarantee a nomadic dancefloor is immediately jostling again, as soon as the needle is dropped. This copy has surface marks but as you can hear it plays LOUD, clear & true. Label has “fade” check out the two scans.. A chance to own a “Monster” at a sensible price, we’re thinking. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,042.00 Eddie Carr Your Love Is Indescribly Delicious “Indescribably Delicious” & “Indescribably RARE!” I do wish someone would give me an alternative word to “rare”, just a mere glance at this 45 and the mere word “Rare” doesn’t do it justice.. Peter Sutcliffe “A little Moody” or Beyonce “Kissable” would be comparable understatements. This Los Angeles street level press of Willis Wooten’s currently played Philly monster is a little “beyond Rare” Hidden away on the flipside of an “Evel Knievel” novelty recording, you cannot get any obscurer than this fine take on the song. Vocally powerful with a muscular Frank Virtue & Johnny Stiles production the pumping horns loud and clean, with a studio full of keen girls wailing the answering chorus. Eddie’s vocal has that “grit” to lift the session another notch.. W. H. C. Records of Los Angeles - Produced by Virtue & Stiles looks and sounds “indescribably essential”. Condition is immaculate. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 404.00 Eddie Banks & Martha Jordan I Made A Change C/w Loving In The Right Direction Memphis Urban-Funk of the rarest kind, underlining the extreme Soul talent present in Bluff City throughout the 60’s & 70s. A marriage of two of the city’s lesser known artists, strutting their vocal mastery; with both of them belting out attitude and soul in equal quantities. Martha leads the proceedings with a “Mr. Big Stuff” style stance, telling her man she made a mistake and she has him sussed! Marttha: “You’re Ready To Tell Me All Of those Lies.. Making A Lots Of Simple Alibis” Eddie’s reply: “I’ve Had Lots Of Women, Had Them Large & Small, Baby You Don’t Have To Worry Bout Me Now, ‘Cause I Don’t Run Around At All…” He’s a bad boy..she’s a determined woman…the perfect combination to ignite those killer Lyrics, exploding with the help of Honkin’-Horns puncturing a dangerous Funk rhythm. My advice is buy this Hunk Of Funk, it’s damn RARE as rare as a faithful man I’d say…. Ouch! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 311.00 Howard Guyton I Watched You Slowly Slip Away This weeks Northern Soul classic VINYL PRESS - STOCK copy showcases one the greatest contributors to the Northern Soul scene and indeed 60s music. Former Teen-Idol Teddy Randazzo was responsible for a plethora of stand out recordings during the 60s. On this Northern Soul classic he his joined by longstanding writing partner the equally talented Victoria Pike and a man about to make his mark on the music scene Dennis Lambert ( a massive influence on the Four Tops during their ABC years) add Louis Pegues to the table, and the room is bubbling with talent. All that is required is a vocal to carry this huge production… Big drum-roll intro - step up Howard to boom his stuff with a distinctive “Pitneyesque” vocal…effortlessly delivered into an imaginative Randazzo orchestration of highs & troughs building a full-on arrangement that screams NORTHERN SOUL!! … then a stroke of genius that seems to come so easily to Randazzo.. towards the end as the production flattens out… a little instrumental interlude is then unexpectedly elevated in the most-almighty string break ever to embrace a Northern Soul recording… Today if you want to witness string-power of such magnitude, you will need to attend the Royal Albert Hall in Promo Season.. Mr. Randazzo, you were IMHO the Daddy of the huge production… Back on subject - this listing is an immaculate rarely seen BLUE STOCK copy in utterly sumptuous condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 262.00 Vala Reegan & The Valarons Fireman C/w Living In The Past It is completely by coincidence that this week we are applauding the expertise of the East Coast music makers. Already giving Teddy Randazzo a standing ovation we are now confronted with an even more successful New Yorker who ripped the pop-charts apart and long the way also provided some superior Northern Soul offerings. Bob Crewe and team were behind this crafting of the girl-sound with the mysterious one 45 only Vala Reegan & Her Valarons. This session handed over to Bob’s teammate Herb Bernstein, no stranger delivering the girl-group Northern Soul sound. This 45 a classic tune on the A-side “Fireman” but in recent times it’s the flipside that has jumped to the fore. “Living In The Past” is an absolutely sublime 1966 mid-tempo groove, that Barbara Banks covered on Veep. Contrasting but compelling double-helping of Northern Soul, with the topside an impressive upbeat NS dancer that has enjoy Club-turntable spins since it’s seldom seen 1966 UK birth. Flip it over for a different encounter as the partnership of Herb Bernstein & Bob Crewe carve out a piece of mid-tempo Heaven. Smooth, sultry and totally on the money for today’s changing NS scene. Condition, the deciding factor of it’s inclusion in the auction - is FLAWLESS in original company sleeve, two spotless promo labels and vinyl that reveals no signs of handling whatsoever. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 163.00 Little Joe Cook I'm Falling In Love With You Baby Collectors of the real-deal Northern Soul classics..let’s get serious. What are the chances of capturing this 48 year old Wigan Casino / Cleethorpes Pier floorshaker in absolutely miraculous condition due a lifetime “filed” only existance. in 12014 we have little hope of offering another copy in this staggering state of Mint - / Mint - no DJ ownership. Click the soundfile to be blasted back to the hot summer of 1976. The indelible vision of a steaming sea of synchronized hand-clapping, head-spinning, back-dropping amphetamine fueled dancers, frantically giving this ultimate NS stomper focus it deserved, that is the vivid image, alight in my head from the stage at Cleethorpes Pier 38 years ago. We have not listed this 45 in an age - not witnessed such a clean copy since that unforgettable summer… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 663.00 Colt 45s Lady, Lady C/w I Know I Love You Hidden on the flipside a seriously smooth mid-tempo vocal group harmony stroller is an instant wake-up call for the Northern Soul dancers is an effervescence horn driven dancer with a unforgettable shrill vocal backing.. Seamlessly rolling along on a wave of horns and razor-cut squealing girl choruses and the echoing lead vocal bangs out the lyrics. SUPERB! Is this one more example of the weight-of-rarity stunting it’s progress to become recognized today as a “Timeless Classic” quality in the grooves would indicate it has everything required to have become so. Today it is a seldom seen Northern Soul snoozer endowed with all tghe qualities to wake up and stir the dancefloor into spontaneous applause… deserves a 2nd lease of life.. As you can see the flipside label was the one “Ben-Lee Publishing” believed in and decorated the primitive label design to catch DJ attention, whilst leave “our” side free of promo graffiti. You can see why it is a beautifully crafted song showcasing all the fine vocals involved in the session. Two great sides - with “Lady” once again displaying qualities far and beyond many of today’s DJ turntable choices.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 496.00 Sammy Acuna I Never Found A Girl Vocal/instrumental Steve Cropper’s much-loved production of Eddie Floyd’s & Booker T. Jones’s beautifully paced composition is perhaps the most covered of all Stax born songs. A favourite with independent artists and groups because it sparks an instant feelgood experience. UNfortunately most all other efforts fall short of the stand-out original. Not this one… Sammy Acuna is by far my favourite alternative, as he lifts the 1968 recording way into the next decades; on the back of tightly presented horn arrangement decorated with a shimmering Soul-Gal chorus. Just perfect to dance to - and familiar enough to secure the dancefloor impetus even on first hearing… Not to mention has a rather wonderful eye-catching label design also… So what’s not to like ? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 158.00 Leroy Ace Miller I Really Need Some Lovin Tonight You were a busy man Mr. Miller.. From his base in Macon, “Ace” crafted fine innovative D.I.Y. Soul/Boogie/ Sweet recordings. All his releases were understandably very, very limited presses and are currently catching the attention of the Web-foragers seeking the obscure and overlooked. So check out this colourful release and the gifted Leroy Miller. We lead with an on your knees down beat soul plea, which builds up into something much better than you’d expect for an autonomous production; as “Ace” adds some inspired extras like the hauntingly soaring girl-group interventions, up-changes of intensity in the vocals affixed to a swirling synth. Flip it to find Mr. Miller in dance-mood that will please the “Boogie” fans amongst you - as he belts out 80s dance. Upbeat, potent and relentless Boogie.. He is a guy to check out, as awareness of his work slowly grows… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 30.00 Z. Z. Hill Make Me Yours C/w What Am I Living For Not too often do you, encounter a British example of a USA Soul release, released as a 45 in the UK, that never got a 45 issue in the USA, in fact not very often at all. If the true circumstances were known, I’m presuming Dave Godin’s passionate public analysis of Bettye Swann’s original 1967 CBS release, caught the attention of someone at B&C Records and they decided it may be a good idea to lift it off the Action 6004 album release. They certainly believed in the song, as it was released as an “A” side. Like many other inspired releases driven by enthusiasm, this 45 again fell on “stoney ground” selling only very meager amounts, but became a much talked about different version, over the following decades. That is until this century when quite a few DJ’s including myself, Nige Brown etc. have added to their DJ boxes. In a club, volume up… Z.Z.’s life-torn vocal is the perfect for the poignant lyrics Bettye wrote as a teenager. A young girl’s yearnings, turned onto their head by the gravelly, nicotine coated, whiskey washed, proper-Soul-man voice. WHAT A TUNE! UK ONLY! and still in my DJ box and I’m betting Mr. Brown’s too.. A tune you can play anywhere, any time - heads will turn, some will peer onto the turntables but nobody will ever leave the floor..that’s fa’sure. Condition is mirror-like… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 196.00 H. B. Barnum Lonely Drifter (2.47) UNISSUED MOTOWN Acetate No it is not cue-burn on the intro but H. B. Barnum adding convincing seashore & seagull sound affects as he transforms Eddie Levert & Walter Williams 1963 O’Jays Imperial outing, that was also guided by the magnificent hand of H.B. into a 1968 2.47 minute improved remake. Vocally immense with a matching production, just as you’d expect from an H. B. session, as he captures Motown Sound completely. This NS dancer also achieved a shorten but fine 2.27 minute release credited to Gene Diamond on Mothers 1302 released the same year. A unique piece 20 second longer take; and one that will certainly appeal not only to the Motown completer but also to those many of you DJs and collectors seeking the one-offs that these irresistible 60s Motown 10”ers from the vaults offer. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Tyree Glenn Jr., & The Fabulous Imperials Yesterday Only 300 ever press back in 1964 of this Tyree Glenn Jr., session. The son of the esteemed Jazz musician Tyree Glenn left college in Ohio and went on a 4 year tour. Which took him and “The Imperials” to New York..where Little Anthony’s backing boys politely told him the change the group name.. Tyree obliged by putting “The Fabulous..” in front and cut this, their only 45 release. His partners on stage, Wayne & Tony Bartlett wrote and sang lead on the respective sides! The earthy deep vocal of Wayne on the A-side purrs like a Big Cat ready to strike, as he stealthily glides through the brass-filled arrangement, bridged by a wild sax-break… A long-standing cult 45 for both the Northern Soul academics and the Belgium “Popcorn” scholars. Very rarely seen for sale.. but only 300 leaving the factory in 1964..frankly I’m amazed we are able to offer this copy.. Which is in flawless condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! Smith Brothers There Can Be A Better Way C/w Payback's A Drag Looking for guaranteed rarity? Look no further this STOCK copy only vocal-group Northern Soul has a life story that validates just that. Allegedly, when in the late 70s Neil Rushton veteran record dealer/DJ/Label owner all round Soul-Entrepreneur approached Jack Ashford on the hope he would maybe have some of the “impossible” STOCK copies, Neil was informed that Jack had only been sent a few samples to OK before he paid for the press. Neil was excited when Jack told him if you want to pay the pressing plant bill he can have the whole run, as reaction to his “Smith Brothers” samples had not indicated Radio airplay.. To this day it is one of Neil’s biggest regrets, that time constraints and other business stopped him from following up on Jack’s invite. Nobody knows what happened to the full Smith Brothers run, put it certainly did not hit the streets. So we are left with just a few known STOCKERS and promo copies that do not have the fabulous “There Can Be A Better Way” side on it. This was well over 30 years ago and we can think of no reason why this set in stone vignette would not raise this 45s rarity kudos quite a few notches.. a truly “Impossible” 45 and so damn good.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,390.00 Bobby Reed The Time Is Right For Love C/w If I Don't Love You One of the greatest ever Northern Soul records ever made. BOTH SIDES and it’s MINT! Truly MINT ! Play and be prepared to gush.. Twice over.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 333.00 Black Is.... Spinning Wheel C/w Themes And Variations and now for something completely different! RARE 1969 Jazz / Funk groove featuring David Crawford on flute guiding “Black Is” to serve up a heady mix of piano driven 60s Jazz/Funk as they deconstruct David Clayton-Thomas’s Blood, Sweat & Tears 1969 classic. Full of breaks and riffs as the upfront keys thud into gear. Classy flute takes the place of the vocals and it’s up and running indie Jazz, that over the years has picked up a cult following. Flip it over and the Jazz goes deeper and more complicated but loses none of it’s urban charm. This rare disc is MINT! After decades of a filed-only existence.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Freddie Hughes Send My Baby Back Prepare to be absolutely beguiled by an imploring mixture of soulful despair & joy. Freddie Hughes was the most-impressive export from those soul-fertile streets of Oakland, California, this is his one and only album. From the very first track side 1. Freddie will have you hooked into his pleading style, rich in expressive emotion “Send My Baby Back” drips with hopefulness, a Soul masterpiece that was to be his biggest hit. Next cut “Tonight I’m Gonna See My Baby” is totally uplifting LP ONLY Northern Soul that would set any dancefloor alight. Next is more of the same, next track knocked me dead - last track Mr. Hughes flexes his vocal with a male version of Aretha’s “Natural Woman”, confidence indeed.. Side one is as complete a soul experience you could ever wish to hear - with the bonus of non-45 Northern Soul smacking you in the face! Would producer Lonnie Hewitt allow the flip to fade into insignificance? No way as he kicks off with “Gotta Keep My Bluff in”..next is another LP only cut a mid-tempo “Every Night” what a slick delight. followed by “Where Is My Baby” then a killer take on the Temptations “You’re My Everything” with “What Am I Gonna Do Without Your Loving” another Northern Soul mover ensuring EVERY TRACK is a fabulous Bay Area experience of inspiring Soul! Condition is fabulous - the music is stand-out - so good we would have liked to sample ALL the tracks. Time allowed for 7 - but those 7 will capture you completely.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Ike & Tina Turner Anything You Wasn't Born With C/w Beauty Is Just Skin Deep This double helping of mid-60s Northern Soul has lived in the shadows of “Dust My Broom” for a little too long. Maybe the gorgeous clothes it’s wearing today, will entice you to unleash the explosive Sister-snarl of Tina Turner. Tina rides a relentless Ike Turner piano rhythm and the Ikettes decorate the backing with their perpetual yelping of support , the gathering whip up a the perfect-dance-storm. Flip it over for what was the preferred Northern Soul spin, seeing turntable action at The Wheel etc. as the insistent thumpin’ dancebeat was just what the dancers were looking for at the time and was in fact the selected side above “Dust My Broom” as the more “Instant” dancefloor mover. The “Dust My Broom” nudges the “overplayed” category, this disc would be a smart replacement. With both sides doing it up right, with “Beauty” a real out-and-out stomper of the lost-powerful kind and “Anything” a little more cultured in its approach. Looking totally fabulous in its birth-sleeve, adorned with the coveted Big-Red “A” with vinyl in near flawless condition… what’s not to want? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Deadbeats No Second Chance THE PHANTOM JANITOR ! Unshakably written into Northern Soul folklore as Wigan Casino’s most memorable cover/up. The record that for years tantalized the Casino crowd, teasing the collectors into utter frustration, as they dreamed of knowing it’s real identity. From all the 1,000s of Northern Soul “cover-ups” over the years this is recognized as the most imaginative, even sparking of theories and bar stool tales of how Richard Searling actually arrived at christening this 45 as “The Phantom Janitor” Decades on, this disc is no easier to acquire now, than it was back then… seldom if ever seen for sale and rippling with headlong power and enviable historical NS kudos.. Clean the soundfile - and let the “Phantom Janitor” sweep you down the corridors of our past.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 642.00 Perfect Match The Weights On You C/w I'll Smile Again What about these two 70s Philly dance grooves - previously undocumented 1978 double serving from husband & wife team James Bynum and Dorothy Bynum. You will of course remember James Bynum’s huge 1975 offering to Blackpool Mecca & Cleethorpes Winter Gardens patrons with his “Time Passes By” monster also put together by this talented couple and currently very sought-after. This 3 years later creation is dripping in obscurity, begging the question why it’s remained “out-of-sight” for the last 36 years.. So eagerly check out the soundfile for innovative Philadelphia dancefloor lures, they do contrast with each other but both present the listener with fabulous urban D.I.Y. enthusiasm aiming for club impact. No club impact happened and a real rarity was born.. don’t you just love this record collecting journey? Sorry, this item has already been won! Bonus - FULLY AUTOGRAPHED front & back cover by the band and vinyl and label are near perfect. *We are dedicating this this listing to the much-loved “Daly City Bob” - Bob Catteneo Soul fan/Record Dealer from the home town of Chuck Edwards Generation “Daly City” he is ill in hospital at this time - and many will remember his huge contribution to Europe’s Rare Soul scene during the 70s from his “Odyssey Records” mail order business - he was a special guy and this is one special album he would have certainly bought as a new release. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00 Jack Montgomery Dearly Beloved C/w Do You Believe It “Jack Montgomery” aka Marvin Jones provides one of the those velvety vocals that sink deep into your Soul. A voice that is equally comfortable with a mid-tempo or the upbeat Motor City floorshaker, as this disc is about to prove. In the mid-70s “Do You Believe It” it was the play side - a relentless Northern Soul juggernaut, an irrepressible runaway stomper that actually came to an emergency stop! when an enterprising DJ decided the truly sumptuous flip side was also worth a spin. The rest is history, since the later 70s “Dearly Beloved” has been just that…”beloved” by all. It epitomizes the diversity of the Northern Soul scene when “The Salvadors” and this strolling master-class in Soul, can be played in the same DJ set and receive exactly the same adulation from the crowd. Reading the label credits it showcases what is possible when the very best at their work gather in the same room….Marvin Jones, Don Mancha, Mike Theodore, Dennis Coffey, Johnny Terry and the mercurial intrusion of Andrew “Mike” Terry’s baritone sax at all the right times lift this session into “the greats” It was not just the monumental vocal in the studio that day, but a gifted team who crafted unsurpassed Northern Soul that led to the loving acceptance of the Northern Soul mid-tempo dance groove! This promo copy - is utterly flawless btw Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 240.00 Fascinations Girls Are Out To Get You C/w You'll Be Sorry Records of this classic status require very few words from us. Only to say this nearly 50 years old and in blinding condition snugly hugging it’s birth-sleeve is still looking totally clean, vinyl only reveals light sleeve contact blemishes in strong light, solid center small hole label is flaw free. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever see a finer copy this late in the day… A Twisted Wheel anthem that has endured 1/2 a century of Northern Soul attention - and still packs the dancefloor today. Real Deal Classic for those of you who put condition first as the deciding factor of what discs you add to your collection… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 69.00 Broadways You Just Don't Know C/w Sweet And Heavenly Melody This week’s Black is beautiful entrant. Offers up two sides that have swelled in popularity in recent years, with “You Just Don’t Know” receiving DJ attention after years of uplifting “Sweet And Heavenly” being the choice to spin. A 1966 New Yorker, pitching up two slick harmony Northern Soul dance grooves, benefiting from the presence of the highly gifted guitarist Trade Martin; who’s studio arrangements feature on so many stand-out Northern Soul classics. This “two for the price of one” 45 influenced somewhat from the impact the Four Seasons were having on the charts, also provide us with delicious harmony vocals woven into an easy-to-dance to production. Condition is blinding, and as the demand of disc has rocketed in recent times..we feel there’s a few of you who may not own a copy..yet. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 216.00 Clara Hardy You're Too Jealous C/w The Touch Of Love The Girl-Group sound … at it’s most captivating. Early 60s Motor City Northern Soul, echoing everything the Golden Detroit era was about… as Motown’s girl groups were just starting to receive chart success. Although there are light hints of the “Motown Sound” this 45 is essentially a release saturated in street-level hopefulness. Beautifully naive, in anticipation of success, as the skills of two Detroit NS notables join forces; Kris Peterson and soon to be Golden World/Ric Tic luminary Bob (Rob Recco) Hamilton write for the sweet vocals of Miss Hardy. Both sides epitomizing the Motor City sound of this formative period. But the most exciting aspect of listing is THE CONDITION almost without exception on the few occasions this 45 has passed my way it has been way less than VG. This copy is a clean Mint minus with two flawless label - very elusive in this treasured condition… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 102.00 Frank Beverly And The Butlers If That's What You Wanted C/w Love (your Pain Goes Deep) Words? You could use every superlative in the Oxford dictionary, then at the front of each, add the likes of “Utterly” “Absolutely” “Totally” “Entirely” “Completely” and I still could not in any way fully describe the sensation that shot though my entire body, when I first witnessed the intro to this Philly Phenomena. Not just me, but most every teenage Northern Soul disciple of the early 70s was moved to levels of embarrassing excitement, instantly riveting themselves to a life of searching for this record’s equals… Of which there are very few… Act accordingly …a record to be buried with… THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL! Bill Bush I'm Waiting Addictive in the extreme! Perpetually activating the dancefloor “Sardine Effect” immediately those sexy-Sax-notes blow. Unique in it’s make-up, unforgettable in it’s style. Perfect Northern Soul - Perfect condition! Unmissable! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,406.00 Ernest Sparks I'll Be Glad C/w Send For Me From that era of Stafford’s “Top Of The World”; the scene that cradled Northern Soul through its leaner decade of the 80s. THis is one of it’s most-memorable discoveries, when the legendary Guy Hennigan covered it up and rechristened it as TATE - Saving All My Love For You. Good choice that man, as there are many similarities to Tate’s - Cloverstreet 45s. Having remaining very rare through all the following decades, you may well need a refresher spin, to reveal Guy’s penchant for the outer-most-potent side of Northern Soul. A rare Detroit/New York hybrid, as the talented Mr. Ernest Kelley N./Y./Motor City commuter guides his namesake through an explosive high-octane horn driven juggernaut, with no truck-stops for a breather, “Sparks” is on a direct dancefloor mission of the most relentless kind. Surely an Hennigan “Bomb” that begs to be dropped again.. Condition is flawless Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 247.00 Various Artists An Album Full Of Soul An immaculate copy of one of the 60s rarest Compilation Albums. We know Top Rank, Stateside, London & Sue throughout the 60s gave the British record collector a passport to the USA Soul scene and of course built the foundations of Northern Soul. But we must not overlook the roll that the Soul Album played in bringing the “unknown” soul recording to these shores…A big influence on my “Young Soul Boys” days were the Soul City, Action, Minit or the BackTrack 6 compilations, full of recordings not issued as 45s in Britain. To the English Soulie artists like Brooks O’Dell, Bobbie Smith, Betty Harris, Pearl Woods, Eddie Billups, Freeman Brothers etc. were a mystery at the time, as Stateside executives pulled the obscure from the 1964 / 1965 Amy/Mala/Bell catalog. This copy is in glorious condition, near perfect in everyway. Mint - vinyl, two Mint labels, a cover free of any annoying flaws and still hugging it’s original “rice-paper” EMI inner sleeve. We can only imagine what the Brit Soul fan thoughts when he first heard this enlightening venture into USA Soul. But we can assure you, even though the title is clear about the content, hardly anyone purchased this LP upon release. Today it is Unicorn-Rare in acceptable condition.. in Mint - nick near “impossible” Star Track “Big Dee Irwin - You Satisfy My Needs” + 15 other goodies.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 191.00 Jus'us There's Got To Be Some Changes C/w Don't Stop Smiling JUst love these D.I.Y. street-level soul projects that offer up two contrasting sides more often than not aiming at two different audiences with Weighty-FUNK one side and silky-smooth Sweet Soul the other. This very obscure 1974 Ohio creation is no exception. The FUNK side is an angry protest formulation of enraged Horns, swirling Flute supporting snarling vocals and highly pitched chorus. Resulting in positive FUNK flavoured with Jazz and a squealing Sax. Flip it over and this weeks “Sweet Soul” offering is hiding away on the B-side. A precisely served soulful ballad with falsetto’s in the backing and lead… charmingly primitive, deliciously naive and decidedly soulful. Two impressive sides from the streets of Akron, stupidly RARE! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 148.00 Servicemen I Need A Helping Hand C/w My Turn We have so very rarely been able to make to proclaim, whilst talking about this Los Angeles Northern Soul anthem… THE LABELS ARE THE CORRECT WAY ROUND !! Almost without exception this 45 left Monarch pressing plant in December 1967 with the labels reversed. So many have this flaw that it has over the years become an almost acceptable vinyl-foible… But not by all - those of you fastidious about condition will not want a “label reversed” press in the house..but that would mean a glaring omission from your “True NS Classics” run. So before you today is an opportunity to snare one of Northern Soul’s “Pimpernel’s” … the perfect pressing - on the much-admired “Orange Man” label design; a rare thing indeed. So click the soundfile to be beamed back to that Golden Era of Simon Soussan almost daily finding truly great classic style Northern Soul stompers. PROPER NORTHERN SOUL at it’s most vibrant.. ..but do not overlooked the fabulously Sweet Harmony Ballad “My Turn” on the flipside, truly classy creation. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 308.00 Gypsies It's A Woman's World (you Better Believe It) C/w They're Having A Party Northern Soul - Real Northern Soul - in the style that built the foundations for NS longevity that shows no signs of ever fading. If your nearing 60 or slightly over, it is sounds of this calibre that ignite euphoric recall of the “backdrop” littered dancefloors of the early 70s. The synchronized hand clapping and the girls pleated skirts parasoling waist height, momentarily adding a pause to your dance…as a quick peek was in order..or maybe if you have a normal sex-drive it would be your own frantic footwork you remembered… Pumping J. J. Jackson arrangement with honking horn instrumental breaks at dead-the-right moments…perfect! You can’t match these classics today - and this title has always been a difficult one to capture.. Whatever it is that you look back on - this tune - makes you remember… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 338.00 Timi Yuro Something Bad On My Mind Inc: It'll Never Be Over For Me Condition of this STEREO USA PROMO press could hardly be better. Flaw free front and back cover(rubber stamped PROMO) see scan, original inner birth-sleeve, perfect “as new labels” and vinyl which looks just like it did, when it left the factory in 1968. Fourth track - side one is the Northern Soul colossus It’ll Never Be Over For Me never issued as a single in the USA - LP only and in this condition as a stereo PROMO it is rather tricky to capture. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 51.00 Bobby Parker Watch Your Step C/w Steal Your Heart Away Right on the cusp of the British all-night Club scene transferring their musical affections from Modern Jazz to R&B; Bobby Parker breaks surface with a thumpin’ slab of Philadelphia R&B that was to be a dancers & DJ’s choice long after it’s 1961 beginning. Now considered a classic of it’s time and still to the present a favoured turntable choice on it’s V-Tone USA release at Twisted Wheel revival and choice R&B nights. Before you today is an immaculate 1961 UK DEMO in blazing Mint - condition…a yellow delight! The A-side “Powerhouse R&B” it may well offer, but do not overlook the “filthy” slow-drag on the flipside - when Bobby takes inspiration from 50s Ray Charles recordings, snarling a down and dirty bluesy Soul ballad filled with angst and defiance, showered with shrill Sister vocals. SUPERB! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Various Artists 1970 Norfolk Arena 26" By 32" Genuine 22 November 1970 Norfolk Arena SOUL SHOW. A huge 26” by 32” full colour CARD poster Just look at those acts… WOW just ogle that line up… We need to get serious about this ultimate Rare-Soul wall-hanger! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 250.00 W. D. Jordan You Can't Keep Running Away Very obscure early 80s Los Angeles upbeat dancer that will totally please the Rare-Boogie fans but has more than enough Soul in the gravel-coated vocal to draw in the discerning Rare-Soul fan also. Not sure on the history of this artist, but my guess is he’s been around a while as vocals of this calibre do not happen over night. The whiskey/Nicotine effect on certain notes adds a depth and validity few frantic sessions can offer. If we drop the RPM by -2 it becomes another record altogether as the vocal becomes richer and the cracking growl takes on even more character. Full throttle street-level dancer or if you prefer a rich upbeat floor destroyer.. the choice is the DJ’s… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 61.00 Lee Barry I Don't Need It C/w Man Ain't Nothing Even in 1966 before the name of Barry White was known outside the streets of Los Angeles his acute awareness to exploit an opportunity was very evident; In spring 1966 with Len Barry riding high with his Decca Sessions. Barry reinvented himself as “Lee Barry” on the off-chance the short-sighted or dyslexic California Radio Jock may take a 2nd. glance and spin Barry’s one and only release under that “too close for comfort” name. The Rare BLUE Stock copy, gives hints of the genius that was about to surface as one of the greatest exponents of the “Soul” Sound the world had ever seen. Both sides written, arranged & produced by Barry White; ripple with the ingredients that would rocket him the world-fame only a few years later. Heavy Girl-Group presence supports his unique “Walrus” vocal… as he serves up deeply atmospheric, down & dirty Northern Soul embroidered with blaring horns, insistent girl choruses soaring high over Barry White’s signature snarl… matched up against a droning horns and tinkling vibes, completely wonderful. Fantastic tune yet to achieve it’s glaring NS potential - the flipside which Barry led with, hooked into another “hit” sound of the day - The Percy Sledge styled Deep Soul ballad, a finely crafted effort it is too. With all this thought and care taken on this release, surprisingly this breakthrough attempt failed miserably - leaving the NS collector another rarity to chase, as the release copy in Mint - condition, is seldom if ever seen for sale. Historical and essential Northern Soul in it’s rarest form… love both sides Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 97.00 Betty Turner & The Chevelles The Winds Kept Laughing C/w Little Miss Misery It must be very confusing for the NS “Outsider” to try and identify the Northern Soul “sound” when you compare this week or indeed any weeks listings, the spectrum of the music stretches far & wide, but all have something very special, that certain indescribable quality that lifts it up and grabs your attention. In this case from an ordinary girl-vocal to a record that creeps under-your-skin and stays put. Betty Turner’s rarest 45 ripples with “Popcorn flavoured” horns, shrill girl chorus and Betty’s lead vocal bubbling her way through the lyrics. Then there’s Holly St. James style “Kettle Drums” booming unexpectedly and the uttering out of kilter “Sherriff Of Nottingham” style horns calling from the castle walls… what is that all about? ..BUT IT WORKS and it’s works brilliantly as proven by decades of being a cherished dancefloor favourite - and guess what? The overlooked mid-tempo flipside is thoroughly captivating too.. NORTHERN SOUL? Well, it’s the little things that count, those special additions to a production that make it standout from the norm.. This promo has magnificently clean, the only blemish is the PROMO MAN George Jay I.D. stamp on the label. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 490.00 Gloria & The T-aira's I'm Satisfied C/w Running Out Of Time Mysterious Chicago plagiarizing of Detroit and Motown, as Jerry Mundo & Sunny Sawyer craft totally flawless on-the-money Northern Soul!! Who?…. yes Jerry Mundo & Sunny Sawyer are not names that jump to mind whilst thinking of 60s Chicago Soul but the pairing hits a “Bulls eye” with these two sessions… with the equally obscure “Jose Soul” doing the arranging this one-off session planted on one of the most-eye-catching of labels is a Northern Soul enigma, and rare in the extreme. Another riddle is why has this not joined the upper tier of Northern Soul trophies like Lillie Bryant, Tamala Lewis, Yvonne Vernee etc. every darn note as good and equally elusive! The answer is obvious, as it never became a Wigan, Mecca or Cleethorpes Monster, but to be honest I don’t think I ever saw a DJ with a copy at “The Pier” but did receive enthusiastic plays in 1977 from both Soul Sam & the legendary “Poke” with the other mortals only able look on in envy it never became the “classic” it so deserved… Leaving me to summarize, damn RARE, Awesome Northern Soul who’s value is only a fraction of what it would have been had it received regular turntable visits at any of these iconic clubs.. Is this another record suffering from it’s own serious unavailability… Click the soundfile - TWO killer tunes await you; prepare to be drawn into the same needing of ownership… that the magical label has already imposed upon you. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 463.00 Skull Snaps My Hang Up Is You C/w It's A New Day For the Northern Soul Scene this was a groundbreaking spin. As New York’s finest broke ranks with straight-soul, changing direction to bring you innovative in-ya-face Soul/Funk that took the Blackpool Mecca by surprise as the Highland Room jocks played numerous tracks from their coveted 1973 album. Although the album never enjoyed UK release fortunately this short-Lived UK GSF label (that only managed just over 10 releases) chose wisely, every one now rare and highly collectable; this example being the most sought after and highest valued. Once you click the soundfile you’ll know exactly why. Listen to “The Diplomats” with a change of name and style, bringing themselves back with a bang. BOTH sides offer up intricate, attitude driven solid-FUNK. Topside became a Mecca, Cleethorpes classic, that has been enjoying a recent revival from notable Jocks. Flip it over for an highly respected, and far meatier FUNKER that is now in favour, as FUNK invades the Northern Soul turntables..
