  1. Sorry Mel, wasn't having a pop, im far to uneducated on the subject for that! and it seems i'm slightly younger so respect, I do know older soulies that enjoyed their time in the 60's in night clubs not just youth clubs to sounds such as Tommy Neal and now wont associate themselves with the term 'northern soul' also attended events in recent years billed as club soul/motown nights with a strictly no northern policy and heard TN many times! Having said all that Mel i wouldn't have touched on it had you not initially seperated Motown that has since been regarded as NS, Kind Regards Pete
  2. I didnt say it wasn't northern! I said some older folk would argue the toss as it was made popular long before 'northern soul' was thought of! think it comes under the genre of 'club soul' so that's how i can say it! Pete
  3. Rich, you say you can only afford cheap records, its suprising how quick you can accumulate extra cash for the more expensive records if you cut out other needless luxuries, like FOOD for instsance Pete
  4. I sent a dvd to Etta-blooming-James herself! Don't think she will thank you Pete for divulging her middle name!
  5. IMHO a £10 motown record will nearly always be just that, a £10 motown record but the thing is it may cost £10 to buy but selling it to return your investment is another matter, the fact that it is a £10 popular record in itself means that most folk that want it will more than likely already own it, on the other hand the rarer the record the more chance of finding a buyer that doesnt own it but would like to, Like BEARSY said the money ive spent on records over the years ive now written off as expenses of my hobby and if i get a return at the end of it all then thats a bonus, Pete
  6. Pete, both records still hold very fond memories and yes it was all downhill for kenny after that lol tho i'm sure plenty will disagree! And though i'm not a big SW fan i'm glad my first 'real' introduction to popular music was a motown record, not that that particular track had any bearing on my future tastes, if that makes any sense lol
  7. I just enjoyed watchin em, never thought to save em, wouldn't know how to anyway being the caveman that i am! what a sad shame! Pete
  8. The first record i ever owned (motown or otherwise) was Stevie Wonder - Yesterme - Yesteryou - yesterday was a xmas gift off an aunt as my mum bought my elder bro and sis and myself our first record player between us! and i was the lucky one i think as they got Tracey - The Cufflinks and Kenny Rogers - Ruby don't take ya love to town! xmas 69 i think Pete
  9. I know some older folk wouldn't class Tommy Neal as strictly 'northern' but i suppose thats splitting hairs for me 1st would probably be Little Anthony - Better use your head and most recently through the letterbox Cliff Nobles - judge baby, i'm back on Phil - LA Pete
  10. Nice one steve! but the point is the thread on the said event before and after created so much interest on here (and rumours of 4000+ in attendance) Pete
  11. anti commercialism, underground, anti money making ventures, the scene has moved on? just curious (hard hat firmly on) as to how many on this thread handed a considerable amount of their hard earned cash over to an 'establishment' last month known nationally as PONTINS? i reckon they make a tidy sum out of 'NS' (much more than any promoter in history i reckon) and if they thought they could get 10 more ppl in on a rock n roll weekend they would drop 'NS' like a shot! just a thought!!! not aimed at anyone in particular! Pete

  14. was readingthe thread with interest and agreeing with most of whats being said re lino ritchie, wonder, franklyn, then came dylan, queen etc and thinkin how can i top these with someone even more pants? then came JOE COCKER ffs cant beat that, what the fcuk is he all about? not in the same league but never understood the 'legend' that is Phil Collins! now there is a twat!!!!! but somebody must rate him, who was it that said they only ever bought one album 'no jacket required' and if anybody can think of a better reason for not buying another he would like to hear it? Pete
