Info Please
I was sorting through some LPs yesterday and came accross this track. The Counts - Too Bad (you don't love me) - Aware It's on the Love Sign LP. Is the track known, played out or has it ever been issued on 45? I think it's great any thoughts?

Solo Or Social? Northern Soul Best Shared Or Alone?
I think it comes down to passion. It's fair to say that the scene evokes a huge amount of passion over it's huge spectrum. From going to events, searching for records, buying records, listening to records when you're out or at home, right down to the debates we've all read and taken part in on this site. I've often wondered if other 'scenes' have the same passion?! One that always springs to mind is stamp collecting, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at a stamp collectors gathering to see if they have the same passion as we folk do when at soul nites. You know the look on folks faces when they find a record they've been after for ages or their favorite tune gets spun, it's just special. For me, I've not been to a 'do' for years but love buying and listening to tunes but if i'm honest i do miss the social side of things. I sat this morining clearing out some LP's and 'discovering' lp's i had fogotten about so now i'm going to listen to them and put some stuff over to mp3, how satisfying. I think personal satisfaction in this scene is the bigger picture. gary

Soul Sports
Slightly tenuous but Gil Scott-Heron's father (Giles 'Gil' Heron) was one of the first Black footballers to play in the UK. He played for Glasgow Celtic in 1951 and was nicknamed 'The Black Arrow'. Gary

Northern Soul What Does It Cost You?
Mark Like you I've been collecting records for ever. I started when i was 13 when I first got interested in Northern Soul and kept buying from then on. I expanded my taste and put together a large collection of House/deep house through my late teens thanks to a DJ contract with Warner Brothers but never really moved away from Northern Soul. My collecting slowed when I got married but would still pick up the odd record especially on trips to the states. Oh how my wife loves hours on end in dusty record stores.....NOT! I've always suggested to her that i start collecting N/S again and we came to a compromise. Get rid of all your other records and concentrate on N/S as we were running out of room. That's what i did I've sold, given to charity, given to mates and binned literally thousands of records to concentrart on buying what I'm passionate about. As for the cost, I dont go after the monsters but prefer to hunt around for tunes that are new to me and like to get as many as I can for my money and I'm loving it! I shudder to think the value of the stuff I've got rid of and can't help thinking what my collection would be like if i had spent all that money on N/S. gary

Tunes With Memories
I had a couple of flashback moments this after noon (nothing to do with substance abuse i hasten to add) as i was flicking through some tunes. I started to think about memories associated with tunes and a couple that stick in my head. #1 Sunbathing on a roof in Jersey City NJ listening to a tape on my walkman (a while ago). I was listening to Ho happy day by Flame n King when I suddenly felt as if I was being watched. As I looed up i saw that all the surrounding residents were at their windows watching me and shouting abuse. I'm sure that if they had stones they would have thrown them! I guess they don't do that there or maybe my pasty skin was offensive. Still makes me laugh/shudder to this day. #2 The Cotton Club, Paisley- we went to support Alan Walls (Glenrothes) who was playing at a 'Soul' all dayer there. Turned out it was a kind of jazz-Funk type do and the majority of the audience preferring that genre. Alan decided WTF and launched into his set with Big Mac - That's the way to treat your woman. There was a collective gasp from the jazzy set and a nice big empty floor for us. His set was belligerent to say the least. I don't think we got invited back. I laughed so much i bought the record from him. I know we've all got lots of memories associating dear friends and departed friends but let have some light hearted memories to cheer up this god awful rainy night. gary

Any Info On This?
I had a look at the Indiana 45 Site, it's quite impressive. Yes it does have some noise, which is worse on the USB deck as this seems to amplify any noise. I'm starting to think it must be pretty obscure. Out of curiosity how much did it cost you, if I may so bold as to ask? Gary

Any Info On This?
Chaps Thanks for the info. It's an interesting record, no idea where i got it from, it has always been a mystery to me. I'll put up the flip side sound file. I think if the flip had just a wee bit more ooomph musically it could be realy good. gary

Any Info On This?
I pulled this out of a box and wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it. Bo James and the Human Freedom - Searching/Falling in love again - Miracle records. The lable gives a lot of info such as the date and the fact it is from gary Indiana. It's described as R&B Rock whereas i would describe it as more soulful blues. I can't seem to find anymore about it and it's a tune I've wondered about for years. Thanks in advance Gary

Soul What Is Your Prefered Genre
Great thread I've personally never tried to pigeon-hole my taste but I guess it's mainly 60's although generally speaking I love it all. lately I've been buying stuff with lots of vocal harmonies, which I'm a sucker for. gary

Just Into It ?
That certainly is encouraging! 31 and 33 is only old if you add them together!! gary

Just Into It ?
Perhaps we sould have something similar to the Tupperware scene of the 70's/80's where we can visit people's houses show our wares and drum up some interest...........for wares I mean music. I hear the Tupperware scene was pretty hot in it's day!!!! gary

Just Into It ?
I can't help thinking that people of influence (promoters, dj's etc) and perhaps everyone in the scene have a degree of responsibility to widen our horizons and I don't mean in an Ian Levine style. If not then ther's going to be a very few lucky youngsters going about with some MONSTER record collections with no one to share them with !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gary

Just Into It ?
What an interesting thread! Two point spring to mind 1 the post has been running for a day and so far bearsy is the only person who has said he is 'new'(ish) to the scene. 2 With the exception of a few the majority of folk (me included ) are over 40! I can't help wondering where it's all going to end, and at this rate it looks like it might be sooner than we'd all like. I've been into Northern for 27 years, which scares the bejesus out of me when i think about it but what happenes when we all get too old, tired and dribbly? It was great reading Bearsy's post, I havn't been at a doo for years but clearly the old spirit remains but who is there to take over? I like most will enjoy Northern till the end of my days I've no doubt but I've thought about this many times reading some of the debates (arguments); why does this scene not attract young blood or is this the way we or 'they' want it. If I'm being over analytical i'm sorry. Gary

Know Your Limits
I agree with you. I can't justify spending large amounts of cash although if i was determined i probably could aford it. For me there is a great deal of fun to be had (and satisfaction) in scouring the planet for "£20 monsters". It brings the excitement back into 'Discovering' tunes you're not familiar with and gives me a huge smile when I find such tunes. After years of not buying it's great fun buying tunes that i like at reasonable prices and building a collection of tunes that i want to play as opposed to spending huge amounts trying to have the latest big thing. Hope this also makes sense!!?? Gary

Records Ready For A Second Go On The Scene
It's taken me a long time to get them !! Much the same as most folk i suspect. Gary
