  2. Hi Nelly! Cheers mate! Brilliant show again - as expected!!! A few comments... T.U.M.E - Love shortage - MGM 1975 I have the T.U.M.E. album, wonder if it is an easy to find cheapie or a hard one these days? Brook Benton - Where does a man go to cry - RCA Sometimes found myself struggling to find really soulful tunes by this artist. Is he considered a soul singer in all circles, sometimes feels more like cool "entertainment" singer than soul-drenched if you know what I mean? You may not agree though, I am probably in the wrong here...LOL...just something I´ve been thinking about over the years. I have a 45 by his brother, a rather nice slice of soul that one. Brenda & Albert - This has happened before - Charama 1974 Hard to pick one favourite, but this one problably my #1 favourite from your latest show, a stunner! Cheers, Melismo
  3. Hi Jason! There´s no denying the quality of those tunes The player that starts automatically when I enter this page is "on speed" but doesn´t really matter since I downloaded and then got the right speed. Best, Melismo, your Podomatic friend
  4. He was in the process of recording an album, which would´ve become his first solo album had it come out, but he was in a near fatal accident and because of that the project was abandoned, so he never released an album. However, later on he formed group Randy & The Gypsies (their album is sought after in soul circles), and he (as well as brother Jackie, who we normally don´t think of as a solo artist either) had some solo tracks included on a few OST/VA-albums, apart from his involvement with his brothers´ group of course Hope this helps, Melismo
  5. For many years been buying the same type of FUJI CD-Rs, never had any problems, bought a packet of TDK CD-Rs now and the first disc I burned skips somewhere halfway through. Strange... Maybe have to go to town to buy those FUJI ones after all, since they have never given me any grief in the past. Any guidelines apart from the obvious - modern soul is mid-70´s and onwards up until brand new releases, I supply tracklisting with year, label and format, and I try to dig a bit deeper and come up with some overlooked gems?! I suggest people make a tracklisting like 1. 2. 3. because otherwise it´s hard to find the right track. Was part of another CD swap, was sitting in the car and wanted to play a certain track and it was very complicated because the tracks weren´t numbered so hard to locate. In case someone happens to supply insufficient postage, especially when there are a few `international´ participants in a CD swap, always a good idea to write "sender" and your address on the backside of the envelope, in case something´s wrong (in some cases the letter may be damaged and the address becomes unintelligible) then the letter will be returned to sender. My local post office would like me to give as much information as possible, so hopefully I can make out which ones are UK addresses, and they even want me to state whether the letters are supposed to go out to England, Scotland etc. Best, Melismo

What a wonderful interview, such a warm and friendly atmosphere in the studio and the fact that Betty was the one who contacted you, made for her having a positive attitude and she was more than willing to talk in depth about her career. You are right Jim, the track was co-written by Obie Benson and the general idea of the "What´s Going On" theme of social awareness was partly inspired by Frankie Gaye´s stories from his time in Vietnam, as Marvin himself related in some interviews. And it´s true that Berry Gordy wasn´t keen on releasing this socially concious concept album, he didn´t believe in it, but today of course he is glad that Marvin got his way (LOL) as most music critics seem to agree on "What´s Going On" being one of the greatest (or even THE greatest) album(s) of all time regardless of genre. Best, Melismo
