  1. I'm not sure it will though Pete, you'll up your recorded delivery charge by 10% to cover the Ebay fee which means you'll be posting at cost or close to it. However, someone, who's grossly overcharging on postage at present will do exactly the same and they'll still trouser the same profit as they do now on the postage they charge, even after fees. Ebay will gain from the increased revenues they earn by adding fees to postage, sellers should be no worse off - if they increase postage to cover Ebay fees - and buyers pick up the tab by paying increased postage .
  2. I'm not going to get into the argument of how much fashion influenced the rare soul scene and vice versa but I will say that my experience is that in general - naturally there are exceptions - the regular soul attendee has worn the fashion of the day but made subtle, although in some cases less that subtle, changes, to make it unique. We all seem to associate bags and tank tops etc with Wigan, but I remember Deep Purple Black Sabbath and Status Quo fans wearing almost identical garb back in the early seventies. I see the wearing of bags as being very much a 70's thing, but not necessarily and uniquely a rare soul thing. I have great memories of the very early eighties and beyond and my regular nighter going years covered Stafford, Leicester Oddfellows, Morecambe Pier, Rotherham clifton hall and the 100 Club, I don't remember seeing too many people wearing bags during that time. Equally I don't tend to see people today wearing the fashion that was popular at venues in the eighties, can you imaging venues full of fifty somethings with perms scouse tashes, pegged trousers, slicked back hair styles, single black gloves and clothing from Demob. So if a group of people with particularly fond memories of Wigan choose to wear bags and vests at today's event then why is it that people with equally fond memories of Stafford Leicester etc choose not to wear the fashion that was popular at those venues during the eighties ? I'm all for people wearing exactly what they want, but my opinion just happens to be that people who wear bags look ridiculous. Naturally, I would defend their right to look ridiculous, after all, we still live in a democracy. Mark Twain said "Clothes make the man" I believe that it was Charlie Cairoli who said "Bags make the Clown".
  3. I'm not sure. However, I've dealt with the seller and can say that they are first class, very conservative gradings ( vg was more like mint - ). Additionally they are happy to help the buyer out by showing a nominal value for customs declarations rather than the stupid prices that we are prepared to pay.

  5. Buying tomorrow’s big sounds, at yesterdays prices, today, it’s always been the way to go and nothing really changes in that respect. However, the addiction often forces us to get the order wrong; this can make the drug more expensive than it needs to be on occasion. I buy what I love and love what I buy. I suspect that will always be the case, regardless of market fluctuations.

  7. I loved the Godfather, but never for one minute did I think that Al Pacino was really the son of a mob boss, just as I never really thought that Robert De Niro was a real Taxi driver. Furthermore I don’t I think that Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting would have been enhanced by casting real heroin addicts in the lead roles. Come to think of it I loved Quadrophenia, but I don’t think that Phil Daniels andr Phil Davis were real mods; that fact didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the film. A film can work for many reasons, interesting subject matter, a decent script, good direction and cinematography, and believable performances from the actors. I don’t know if Northern Soul the Film will have all of these attributes, but I’m hopeful. .
  8. I'd tend to agree £60 for a quick sale but definitely worth £80 if you can wait for a buyer Sold a spare copy I had a couple of months ago on here for £80.
  9. There's a few on Gemm from £44.00 to £74.00, £50.00 is about right I'd have thought.
  10. You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.
  11. Lies lies and damn lies, it's always been the same. I was so disillusioned with the scene back in 1976 that I walked away from it and invented Punk Rock. Once this had its day I moved on and invented the New Romantic movement. However, all good things come to an end and by the early 80's I'd recaptured my enthusiasm for the scene, I spent time in America discovering literally hundreds of one offs which I then passed on to Butch. That's how I remember it anyway. True story There was a well known BullSh*tter who was living in Peterborough in the early 80's, he didn't just tell very tall stories but he also managed to tell them in regional accents depending on his target audience. In the Peterborough area he spoke generally with an Apples and Pears, Chim Chimminey Cheragh kind of Mockney accent. However, on the Leicester 2nd Anniversary video he's clearly waxing lyrical with a Yorkshire accent. He's no longer on the scene but remains, I'm reliably informed — a first class grade A knacker.

  15. Which is reasonable, and fairly typical of auction house commission rates .If you have the right record, in the right condition and are selling at the right time then you are likely to achieve more through a JM auction than you would by other means - even after the deduction of commission.

  17. Chuck Overton - Is it possible / I'm so thankful. Copies on KAPP seem quite easily obtainable at around the £50 mark but I've just seem a copy on Moonville listed at £300. I wasn't aware of the Moonville release and was wondering, is this really that rare and what's the story about the first release. Any info appreciated.
  18. I like oranges, I also like apples pears and lemons, depending on the mood I'm in of course. I've never really tried to compare the various fruits, what's the point, they're all so very different, nor would I attempt to rate them in terms of which is the best, the best at being what, orange or yellow etc. It's cerainly true that Oranges are better at being Orange than Lemons are, but so what. I just know that I like fruit, naturally I prefer it fresh, but I also recognise that some people like it tinned in a little light syrup.
  19. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. One of the missing records arrived this morning.
  20. In all the years I've been collecting I've never experienced packages that failed to arrive, until recently that is : - I've bought 1000's of records through Ebay, Gemm, UK and US dealers and many other on-line stores in the last 20 odd years and perhaps I've been fortunate in that they have all arrived safely and undamaged. There has been one or two issues with condition but the packages have always arrived. However, in the last month two packages have gone missing, both were purchases from France, and both were from different reputable dealers. The records were not expensvie, both in the £40 to £60 category, and I'm as certain as I can be that the fault is not with the dealers. This might just have been bad luck , particularly as I've not experienced this previously, or perhaps French mail is less reliable than UK or US mail. I was wondering if anyone else had issues with mail not arriving from specific territories and if France was more problematic than other countries. Cheers Shaun
