  1. Retro soulie Retro ....to look back in the past/ to wear clothes from the past soulie...someone on or from the soul scene retro soulie....a descriptive term for a soulie who dresses from a past era ie the 1970s so mr warrior wheres the paradox? Susan
  2. Elaine, we wish you all the best with your film KTF Susan n Pete
  3. Exactly....you dont very often get a ladder in your socks! Tee hee Susan
  4. Hi Matt,I have been into northern soul since 1974. I wore the circle skirts then, and i do now. I didnt go souling thru the 80s as i was bringing up my kids and living through my non souling stage. However, when I did return to the"scene"after my kids had grown up and fled the nest, I chose to wear my old style soul clothes... I dont think its important WHEN you first came on the scene, wether its 30 years or 10 years, or even a month...its the music that counts and if people want to relive those days or even want to join in those memories from us "early years" soulies, and want to dress in the retro clothes from the era...then in my eyes thats a good thing...theres some young blood coming into northern soul and they love the old dress sense because they feel its where they belong... why is it so many people feel that because they no longer wear the 70s style northern soul clothes they have the right to critisize those that do? if they want to wear that style of clothing then thats up to them....if it wasnt still popular no one would wear it... there are more Retro soulies around on the scene than most people think and if they all congregated it would be a quite a large number..as it happens there are some young uns on the scene who ask "where can I get a circle skirt from?" or "who makes your baggies cuz i want some" ......i rest my case KTF Susan x
  5. Im a white socks girl, as you know Debbie...but I do sometimes wear coloured socks depending on what shoes im wearing and sometimes i will wear them to co ordinate with my clothes. but usually half way through the nite at a venue,i do change into my white socks. from susan x

  9. Well I hope Huddersfield is real because thats where my gran's from.....either there, or the twighlight zone! susan x
  10. maybe you're not insane....may be its everyone else who is, and you're normal KTF Susan x
  11. MR Warrior I don't know you but you're entitled to your opinion just the same as everybody else on here...but there is no need to slag off us girls who wear circle skirts....its a part of who we are and what we stand for and personally i couldnt care less what you think. my fella is proud to be by my side when im wearing my circle skirts and ankle socks and retro top and girly shoes etc he's proud of the fact i spin and flash my knickers when im dancing. if you dont like what you see....close your eyes.... or just dont go . if you go to a northern soul venue, that is what you are likely to see ....lads in baggies and girls in circle skirts....maybe not as many as there used to be,but there, all the same, keeping the visual part of the scene alive...continuing what used to be. KTF Susan
  12. I have to agree with you Debbie,Northern soul isnt a dance that can be taught....its more a case of tidying up what you know....it is one of those things you "feel" if you can see what i mean....theres nothing wrong in wanting to learn the basic steps, after all we learnt through watching the dancers at soul venues or practicing new moves with our mates while looking at our reflections in shop windows!....in my opinion(and this is only my opinion and i dont mean this in an offensive way)but most soulies are born to it....you have to know what you're reaching out for when feeling for the music....thats just my way of expressing the way to do northern soul. KTF Susan x
  13. I was 12yrs old....some lads came to our school disco and asked the dj to put some records on theyd brought.. my friend Elaine told me it was her brother and his mates....they introduced me to the music....first northern soul night i ever went to was Colmans in Nottingham, went up the stairs, through the doors first song i heard,i think it was Sweet Talking Guy by the Chiffons....thats was it,totally hooked....never looked back. KTF Susan

  17. Lots and lots of people were asked...it was a general subject on the internet....pete and I applied and they phoned us back. filming went on for weeks....we had loads of fun and made alot of friends including some of the cast. Pete and some of his mates did a photo shoot outside for the local papers.... all again good fun... the directors and producers and their teams were very friendly( and very patient with us untrained crowd LOL) we and many others were asked back several times for different shots.....it was filmed over several months....which we enjoyed doing very much, and for the fun and new friends we made we have no regrets whatsoever....same as any film, you like it or you dont....not hard is it? lol And yes it is true that to try to re create something that happened is very hard....but only those of us who attended the casino can ever be the true judges of that i guess? ktf susan
  18. What is it with you Mr.Sado just because you think you are some kind of Writer /director /producer, or whatever you dream to be .... just because you wrote a play, which i aggree was very succsesful, you think nothing can ever be done again without your seal of approval....you think your word is sacred....whats up ? jealous cause you were not "consulted" ?......as a matter of fact we saw the version in Bolton of your play which you said was "crap"....but had standing ovations .... yes people probably WILL like this film....me being one of them........ Just give it a chance.........you are entitled to your oppinion.....but as always ,....always so negative.. difference is Mr Sado, your just a number,a minority, and because of your constant negativity and whining on, who gives a f..k what you think anymore...cos it's always the same, same , same... your just a pain in the arse with your "over zealous Criticism and your comments are becoming boring..... you must be so miserable... ...... KTF Susan
  19. I do have to agree with you Brian,if someone starts a new trend,as you yourself did,its bound to catch on at some point. However, the leg pockets on mine(from C&A) were slightly larger than yours, more like what you would get on army trousers....the ones on your trousers are alot nicer... I too like individuality.Theres a young lady and her friend on another thread somewhere on soul source who had a 4panel two colour skirt,I had a 6 panel two colour skirt. fashion statements were a big thing in those days especially on the scene.(alot seemed to be focused on jacket vents, jacket pockets and pocket flaps on the baggies). well you look great on your pic,do you have any others in your soul stuff we could have a look at? KTF Susan (Mrs Casper) PS. Love the cap
  20. I would have to ask my dad if he has any of the photos up in his attic.there may be some up there i don't know....its been years since anyones been up there ! you never know, might even find some soulie stuff tucked away KTF Susan

I remember going to wigan and being "floated" in. It was so packed when paying in ,i was moved along with a group of people ,bag on my head,my feet weren't even on the ground!then when you went through the doors at the top of the stairs, the heat hit you....the smell of sweat, "Brut "and "Hai karate" hit the nasal receptors like a tidal wave.....but well worth it KTF Susan
  22. Alot of soulies wore trousers with the pockets on the side. alot of highstreet shops sold them. we used to get them from C and A they were called Birmingham bags. I had a black pair ,a beige pair and a pale grey pair....and they were high waisters.(they cost something between £8-£10 if i remember right) 90% of soulies who wore baggies had these when they came out and they were very popular at the time. even "historians" learn something new every day ! LOL KTF susan
