Thanks chalky I did know about the copies in the manship find but I thought we were talking about much larger numbers here. Rich agree its a terrible record due to that innane vocal but the sax break is immense. Proper northern as they say.

but ebay prices are "real" prices how can they not be ? most people who collect records probably check ebay and popsike before going anywhere else.

I wasn't aware jackie day had turned up in in any great quantity ? what roughly in numbers are we talking here as a guide, hundreds or tens?

its always good to try and get both sides of any story and balance the debate I totally agree on that. then the final decision is down to a judgement based on the information you have. Which may or may not be all the facts. you have to ask yourself.... should I be buying this record or not ? there is always going to be an element of risk with big $$ top end rarities / unknowns. if you are in the very lucky position where you can afford to buy a lot of them then the good buys will cancel out the onees that turn out to be not so good.

andy sounds like you are also being econical with what you say as well ? somebody was offered 2 records.. etc etc. you are expecing somebody else to tell a 100% warts and all account of how they got hold of some records. if you found a quantity of a very rare record would you go telling everybody where they came from and give the full stroy without holding back on any facts? would you dranitically lower the price of record x immediately or sell then at a declining price for as long as you could ?

I think I may have passed by this 45 one too many times on ebay.... better try and grab a copy. from what I know on the label i'd opt for Fred Briggs its also one of my all time favourite 45s. on groove city i've still to hear the cody black and the holidays. the quality control on the other releases is excellant.

get me the rayons on decca for this price don't think it should be to hard its on a major label. for info this on forte was an ebay $20 record last year lots of people baught spares myself included. Even thought it is pants

our idle gossip doesn't seem to be effecting the auction. Its going very well.

i've baught a few badly graded 45s in the hope they turn out to be better than described. its a dangerous game. don't do it too often.

all i'm going to say is lester tipton is now one of my ebay searches and will be for a couple of months. interesting comment above about 30 copies not effecting the value. I was having that thought earlier just how many copies would start to effect the price ? one thing for sure 2 copies in quick succession has got people talking about it on this internet forum.

lou pride i'd guess early 80s ? still another great version. A bit more controlled in the vocal I guess. thats the one moerer has for $6. thanks for info on others. I think i've missed some very obvious examples in my searching. Will check them out

I've now got 3 versions of this deep soul winner and wondered how many more there are ? so far I have Joe Woods (IMO the best version i've heard yet) Valentine Adams Lou Pride I do know of a 4th group version which I have on CD but group name has gone from memory. all above are quite different and all great, the last one is available at craig moerer now for $6 and i'd reccomend it to anybody. dylan

he is saying this time that its the last copy. Prehasp he could have said on first auction i've got 2 of these but that would have sounded more suspicious that way, well it would to me ? The gossip would have started. if I had just sold something for $7k I wouldn't hang around to sell a 2nd one either. I'd be selling 2nd one straight away.

auction listing says this his is only other or last copy of lester tipton. so I guess it will be and if it isn't he'll never be able to make a suggestion like that agin and be taken seriously. seems like a good seller to me so i've got no reason to question what he's saying.

been outbid a few times myself this week but only on cheap $10 to $30 bits. still seems to be quite a few people in this market still ? anybody got a terry felton on revilot for me....

i've just noticed moerer is now out of stock. May have been for a while but for a long time he had a few of these and it was selling steadily. now could this become the next TJ Williams..... only time will tell but its got all the right ingredients I think.. its catchy as hell and no doubt getting played in the "progressive" venues. Or it might even be an oldie by now
