  1. I have one of these and think its a boot done for the dutch ballad / surinam scene. I think this because mine came from Holland.
  2. bob break yourself in gently with deep with backing vocals and soon you'll love it all.... you are still only young so there is still time to love deep soul
  3. and I made the assumption, prehaps wrongly, that you were talking about all merchandise except records. anyway we agree on this in general. the record bar was always a great place to start a soul night or nighter for me. I don;t think i;d enjoy the tea towel bar quite so much.
  4. if you agree with all I say maybe you started this thread for exactly the reason I would have as well and we have the same opinion. I find it sad the way what should be an underground music scene has gone pretty much down the pan.....
  5. where exactly in you opening post did you mention records ? I must be blind..... maybe you added that in a later post after somebody else entered records into the discussion......
  6. what I mean is origional 45s are the lifeblood of the scene and I would expect to see them for sale at an event. some stupid mug or gollywog has nothing what so ebver to do with helping this scene so is not needed. is that OK for you ?
  7. well i'm sure you know what I meant......
  8. aside from records the other "stuff" is just terrible IMO something i'd never buy and to be honest its cringeworthy. shall I wear a smedley polo or a NS fist and keep the faith comment t-shirt, mmmmmm tough decision.....
  9. records aren't merchandise.
  10. he won't sell many records if every time his auction finishes for less than he wants he cancels the transaction. what kind of a way to sell records is that ? he is just digging a hole for himself.
  11. the closest I got to tryign this type of thing was buying a magnifying glass on ebay. I quickly decided that was no where near good enough and as you say it would need to be a microscope so never even tried.
  12. didn't keb used to play 'billy at deep funk and people kept dancing ?
  13. there are mounttains of lesser played and great to dance to records for example.... howard peters "tighten up the slack" coral (variation on a theme and fantastic) billy jackson "mr TCB" brunswick as you've already pointed out these type of records will never go huge as they are around so you don't get you some kind of exclusive or rare spin. What you might get is a very short window where you play it before most others. james knight and butlers on concho and cat seem to be getting attention now and manship auctioned one with the soul sam spin blurb and I saw the cat 45 listed for 175GBP. Well they were both 40 - 50 quid record that was hard to find a few years ago....... its that hype I don't like about the scene. i'm sure everybody has there examples like the ones i've offered above. I had a brilliant find on ebay yesterday but I need to wait for it to turn up before starting any kind of discussion on it.
  14. has anybody else recorded a version of the flip to the ole 9 "its gonna take time" ? agree on the ABC fox track dave love that one.
  15. would my offer be OK if you don;t get any other interest or will you be keeping it
  16. yes it sold........... took ages though niche appeal these type of 45s.
  17. its a fantastic record.
  18. its not fuky soul so its not going to be worth too much......
  19. Yes Its a very traditional deep soul sound and for me a brilliant example of classic deep soul. Possibly the pioneers of the retro sound recreating a sound that had only passed some 3 or 4 years earlier...... i'm not sure exactly how i'd dance to the uptempo side possibly pull a face a tap my fist and stamp one foot. But i'd enjoy doing it.
  20. anyway another offering from me.............. Jules Johnson "I'm a love man" Free as a breeze hard gritty soul with a strong hint of funk. (along with a couple of his polydor sides also)
  21. yes probably I did say at least.......
  22. well to keep it simeple, yes it does (as long as its good funky soul) my comment about valdons might have come across a bit to negative i'd sooner hear that than a whole heap of played out oldies.
  23. lovely swet soul flip as well been known about by collectors for a good 8 years at least so although very good its not a new discovery or anything.
  24. no its because I sold the first one.... sometimes real life gets in the way of me keeping all the records I buy.
  25. incoming today is my 2nd copy of linden hill on arch which could just about get the tag funky soul. its brilliant and you never hear it anywhere............................... also worth a mention the flip side is a tremendous ballad. best avoided if you don't like blue eyed soul though
