New Ebay Seller To Avoid
he won't sell many records if every time his auction finishes for less than he wants he cancels the transaction. what kind of a way to sell records is that ? he is just digging a hole for himself.

the closest I got to tryign this type of thing was buying a magnifying glass on ebay. I quickly decided that was no where near good enough and as you say it would need to be a microscope so never even tried.

Funky Soul
didn't keb used to play 'billy at deep funk and people kept dancing ?

there are mounttains of lesser played and great to dance to records for example.... howard peters "tighten up the slack" coral (variation on a theme and fantastic) billy jackson "mr TCB" brunswick as you've already pointed out these type of records will never go huge as they are around so you don't get you some kind of exclusive or rare spin. What you might get is a very short window where you play it before most others. james knight and butlers on concho and cat seem to be getting attention now and manship auctioned one with the soul sam spin blurb and I saw the cat 45 listed for 175GBP. Well they were both 40 - 50 quid record that was hard to find a few years ago....... its that hype I don't like about the scene. i'm sure everybody has there examples like the ones i've offered above. I had a brilliant find on ebay yesterday but I need to wait for it to turn up before starting any kind of discussion on it.

Funky Soul
Yes Its a very traditional deep soul sound and for me a brilliant example of classic deep soul. Possibly the pioneers of the retro sound recreating a sound that had only passed some 3 or 4 years earlier...... i'm not sure exactly how i'd dance to the uptempo side possibly pull a face a tap my fist and stamp one foot. But i'd enjoy doing it.

anyway another offering from me.............. Jules Johnson "I'm a love man" Free as a breeze hard gritty soul with a strong hint of funk. (along with a couple of his polydor sides also)

Funky Soul
yes probably I did say at least.......

well to keep it simeple, yes it does (as long as its good funky soul) my comment about valdons might have come across a bit to negative i'd sooner hear that than a whole heap of played out oldies.

lovely swet soul flip as well been known about by collectors for a good 8 years at least so although very good its not a new discovery or anything.
-
Funky Soul
no its because I sold the first one.... sometimes real life gets in the way of me keeping all the records I buy.

incoming today is my 2nd copy of linden hill on arch which could just about get the tag funky soul. its brilliant and you never hear it anywhere............................... also worth a mention the flip side is a tremendous ballad. best avoided if you don't like blue eyed soul though

and some of those deep funk oldies were probably forgotten soul bowl soul pack records or tried on the soul scene but didn't work ? cookie scott was a record that was popular with younger collectors into funk and probably now into funky soul but to me was an average soul record that just wasn't good enough.

I appreciate you are generalising here but would you realy say a number as low as 100 for great deep records. I would pitch it much higher myself. Not sure exactly where but surely over 1000 ? I did set out to find certain records and once I owned them or gave up trying some of the things that I bought after never quite measured up and the great finds started getting less and less. But I still do hear new things to me that I think are great.

I thought pete coulndn't move the mystics I must have read it wrong......

I love the slower tracks with a killer groove to get you swaying. Not a whole set of them but one or two thrown in can work realy well. Or they would with me anyway. Robert Tanner "Sweet memories" is pretty slow and that works very well. And no I don't think its funky soul.......

yes I wasn't trying to be argumentative. I was trying to distinguish between the realy heavy funk sound like the drum instrumentals and the funk records that are as you put it "out and out funk" and not realy soulful at all. I listed a very small selection on page 6 what i consider funky soul but no where near out and out funk. we do agree though that delegates of soul is quite a bit removed from this thread well it certainly is in my eyes anyway. quite a few sensibel comments so far about a good record is a good record regardless of genre i'd happily sign up to that concept. just as long as I never have to endure that awful "clap your hands" record. Now that is truly dreadful.

Funky Soul
I honestly didn't think this thread was about out and out funk. I still don't.

Funky Soul
mid tempo magic coming soon to a funky soul night near you
-
Funky Soul
is another purpose of the term to try and create a new scene that distances itself from the oldies crowd by putting them off wanting to attend ? And the music that gets played may not actually always be funky soul............

bob i'm referring to mystics not specials with my comment you quoted. i've never bought a record for $4 that i've since seen sell for $2500 I doubt I ever will, thats impressive.
